1.
I'm reminded of the cretinous outpourings of the critics when Guy Pratt was pleasant enough to introduce himself on here a little while back.
You have a PM.
 2.
Is it really that important to use the correct fingering?
Nope. That is: if you can comfortably play the stuff you want to play, and don't strain yer andromeda (or wha' evvah), then no. But the moment you hear or feel you have trouble with your timing - or other issues - then fingering can be a great tool rather than a nuisance. As an organist I'm used to choose fingering exactly depending on the effect I wanna reach - mostly the fingering that will most naturally result in the timing I was after anyway. I suppose much of that would go for bass too, but personally haven't needed it on my low E yet.
Unsolicited advice is rarely welcome. Smile, say 'excuse me' and go off to do something more interesting. Like going to the toilet.
My advice to you: quit giving him unsolicited advice!! (Sorry. Couldn't resist.)
 3. My own experiences with Gear4Music have been more than perfect, them showing a high level of service and being proactive, so the negative comments here surprise me. I also seem to remember G4M came well-recommended in several similar threads earlier. I agree their choice of courier is part of the package, and must be part of the rating, though my experiences with that part have been perfect.
 4.
I know how to HOLD a bass.
BC is a place to spread the knowledge, not for boasting!!! So: how does one hold a bass?
 5. Too much awe in this thread methinks, and people thinking way too lowly of themselves and way too highly of the original artists. You are just people, and so are the original bands. They are not gods. They are your peers! Being a lesser player is almost a given - not something that should be made to be the core. BTW, respect is something different and something good. I'm not about not respecting people. Of course, being a classical boy, I've always played "people's songs back to them" (though not to the likes of JS Bach or Cesar Franck), and I get the impression the classical realm is different in that you always play your own version (that's even in the job description), and can just hope that the composer senses the respect you put inside.. It's "your" piece now - in a sense. The composer's job was done when the piece became available to play, except in some are cases where one had to get the composer's permission to play it to even get a look at the notes. An acquaintance of mine once got permission to play a certain piece and came dancing and shouting through the corridors because of that feat's uniqueness. Too much awe! Me, I once got permission after having told the composer I'd spent one and a half year just to build up the technique and the stamina to play his work. He simply looked straight at me and asked: "Are you ready?". The answer seemed to satisfy him.
 6.
We're aiming at a march release. I'd categorise it as 'homebrew thrash metal'
Man! I'd always hated homegrown thrash, and was expecting homebrew thrash to be much of the same. Was I in for a surprise! I LURV homebrew thrash! You've sold me one - - unless it costs 150 Euro of course.
 7.
WTH Bert! That's the title for my upcoming ep!
Seriously? What a cool coincidence. When is it out? How do you rate the music on it?
I played in a band supporting Christian Death
Cool story, Chris, and I'm now slightly less frustrated I never bought any of their albums. What a dunce.
 8.
Avril Lavigne butchered Fule
Thrailer Thrash
 9. You bunch of nitwits! They charge you £1599 for the striking red colour, and it's totally worth it! So the preamp is free, as is the class D amp. Deal of the century!
 10. Yeah, I recognise that, MM20. When I wanted a pipe organ in the house, all that that meant was to buy the house next door as well, and remove one of the floors in it as well as the walls between the houses. You know what? She questioned that idea!
) Welcome to BC! Are you on basgitaarforum.nl too? At any rate, we're nice people here, except Mark and John and Chris of course. Enjoy! best, bert (uit Rommeldam, maar eigenlijk uit Brabant)
 13.
D'Addario EXL nickel wound
Ha! Exactly what I think it has now, and I expect them to have them in stock too, as they always have a lot of D'Addario. Thanks! I'll approach the shop with some heavy duty knowledge now. (not)
 14. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I meant the length!!!!!!!! Sorry. Couldn't resist. Thanks for the responses, guys! This gives me the confidence that equipping it with a new set of the same (9-42) or slightly thicker will not be a major error. Great! I'll see what they have in stock tomorrow, and decide on the spot. In this case it is me selling it, and trying to equip it so a beginner gets a good starting point. Experienced players will know what to do. I agree about tutors. Strongly! Thanks again! bert
 15. Wow! One or two more analogies and this has to be moved again - now to the Humour in Music forum!
 16. I just love the stuff, and don't care about the fact that my humble opinion tells me they're not up there with the best in my personal musical world. Couldn't care less about that humble opinion. It's L.U.R.V ! That said, Lightning Bolt seems nice enough, like Pearl Jam and Backspacer, and I hope to get it for Christmas. I hear my son play his copy, and my head starts moving. Samey samey indeed, but when one loves that stuff... I mean I can well have the same Lagavulin 16yo once again after my first pint, and maybe even another one. That said, for me the real Pearl Jam deal is Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, No Code and Yield, with a special mention for Vitalogy, which to me always seemed like Pearl Jam taking me on a trip to new and exciting places. IOW, I need to hear the whole album in one sitting - and absolutely no random play for this one. Either Binaural or Rio Act did nothing for me. I think it was Binaural, but must play again.
 17. Can anyone advise what string dimensions would be best for a beginner? I have this vague notion that thickness and compliance would mean a lot for a beginner. In this case, we're talking about a well set up guitar that plays very easily and reportedly is good for metal. Not a joke. It's an old Peavey Tracer II, and they seem to be really good guitars. I can't judge that, but I did still immediately recognise that it was easy to play. Any ideas gratefully received.
 18.
You also don't trip over your lead, fall on your arse and make a spectacle of yourself in public...
Never realised that! I was gonna go wireless, but now I'll just drop the whole plan. Thanks for the heads up!
 19. Another way of putting it is that it has the same effect as not totally opening the volume pot on the 600W amp. I guess you are somewhat used to that at least. So IOW the word "underpowering" is not at all appropriate in the situation as you describe it (bar maybe some very, very special cases, but I'm not torturing my brain to make one up right now).
 20. Thanks, Alex. That is of course sound thinking, but as you know, what we do not need might still please us. Right now, I'm only selling the stuff I need to, not more.
 21. Bonjour, Xav, et bienvenue! We vant to learn the Englsih too, so you and us are on the same barge. Ah! Saint Nazaire! La plus belle époque du jour! (Yes, we vant to learn the Française too! ) Enjoy your stay! Bert (ça veut dire "Bertrand" pour vous/toi)
 22. Well, Ed, that was stupid. If people get to know that you have contacted our lot here, your fan base will certainly shrink dramatically. Welcome, and enjoy our company. We have ale. bert
 23.
FANTAsTIK GIUTAR - sO GOOD I WLL ONY PAY £1 ToO AVDERtIZE IT LULZ
Class!
 24. Thanks for all of your concern, your well wishes and your advice, folks! I appreciate this very much indeed. Again BC people have shown some of their qualities, and this fills me with a warm fuzziness (if that was not English, I hope you get what I mean). Happily, my dad was pulled through this crisis by the aid of something as advanced as oxygen, as per my mother's idea and to the physician's great surprise. We have no idea what the future brings, but at least the last 24 hours have been reasonably OK for him. As to the sales, thank you for the ideas! I have taken them to heart, and some were new to me, and important. Right now, I do not expect to need to sell all my bass gear. Besides bass gear, I still have synths, MIDI keyboards, guitars and other musical and non-musical stuff to sell as well. So if anyone has more specific thoughts about reasons to keep certain gear rather than other gear, then I'm all ears. Initially, I thought of keeping the Little Bastard and the GBE, as I get great Old Skool and great modern that way. Also, these are the amps I feel most at ease with at this early stage of getting to know my gear. I agree with the idea of the Squiers being easy to sell and easy to replace, and suppose the cricket bat and the flower bass will not see a large market. Have no idea about the Rockinbetter, but would assume the Corvette should be fairly easy to sell. At any rate, both are easy to replace. BTW, the reason for selling is not, as some might assume, to pay for my dad's medical treatment or similar good causes. It's simply that I need a (rented or owned) car to travel to Holland rather soonishly and support my mother. (I'd sold both my private car and the company car and bought bass gear for the money, which at the time seemed like a grand idea, and was an idea I've been perfectly happy with these last years - proud even, as it has forced me to adopt a new lifestyle - but I was naively not expecting the medical crisis that now occurred.) Thank you very much again! (and keep the wise thoughts coming please).
 25.
No, you really can't and someone with a quote about the laws of physics in their sig should be clear on this.
Bloody nonsense! I have a quote about the laws of physics in my sig, and I'm not clear on anything!
