1. Hey Stjohn, I'm all ears - not that you can teach me stuff. I mean, you can teach, but I can't learn. Anyway, enjoy! best, bert
2. Hey Steve, Welcome form a nice and helpful lefty traitor turned from selflefteousness to selfrighteousness. You'll be alright here. Place is abundant with nice and helpful loyal ones. best, bert
3. Bonjour Pasco, Welcome! We read you loud and clear. Enjoy! best, bert
4. You know, normally I'd welcome people. But this!!! Four basses? FOUR BASSES????? For starters, you'd need a Jazz if you play Jazz music or other music. Then, you can't do without a Bongo if you play African music or other music. Evidently, a Funkmaster is needed, both for funk and for other music. Additionally, you can't do without a Precision if you're into precise music or other music. Obviously, a RockBass ... The list goes on and on.... 16 different model names at the very least. Then you need all of those basses in 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-string versions. Then, you can't do without both fretted and fretless versions of all of them. Have you ever realised that short scale basses have different overtone spectra, and thus are essential so you don't always have the same timbre? So the least you're gonna need are 16 times 4 times 2 times 2 basses .... so let's say 150 basses so we also cover EUBs and those acoustic thingies.... For starters! (Me, I'll have 72 Bongos in a few years. Just watch me...) Oh, and welcome I guess... best, bert
5. What they say. Impressive, and simply stunning! Congrats, and thanks for sharing.
6.
Supposed to be an epic combination that!
I'm gonna have that combination myself, but that said, some people do not appreciate it at all, and have worded their aversion quite strongly. I don't know why that is, but it may be worth a search.
7. Every time Thomann comes up on BC, which is very, very often, people are virtually unanimously positive or rather very positive and enthusiastic. A quick search should tell you more than you need to know. Buy with confidence.
8. Yeah, it's also often assumed that for example all 12AX7s have the same gain coz the X is present in the name, even when valve producers' websites do mention they have X valves with different gains. This assuming is apparent on BC too. Me, I know zilch about valves, but I do know who I rather listen to in this case.
9.
Krysh's post above matey?
Ah! Overlooked that one. Thanks for the heads up and for teaching me a new word or two.
10. Don't know if it's a good idea, but I was thinking of a thingie that exists both as a serious tool and as a toy: A whole bunch of needles rest tightly against each other in a frame that they stick out from. These things can be placed on objects, and they'll then copy its profile, after which a picture of the needles taken from the side will show the profile in all its glory (in this case).
11. "Elephant Talk" with a sax... Yup! Tractor Seal of Approval. Saw them in 2002 or thereabouts, not expecting much in terms of shared music experience between audience and band, but they blew me away (or belewed me away - he was very charming too), and Fripp both smiled - no less - and applauded the audience. Much to my surprise: a shockingly great musical experience. (Normal Fripperantics wouldn't have been appreciated by me.)
12. Laughable thread! ANYbody can find a rig for less than 200k quid! Oh! Seriously though, I've had and still have some cheap used stuff, but never a complete rig for less than 200. Impressive and, first and foremost, very, very cool. .
13. Mark, I'm sure we all appreciate your sharing your knowledge (I certainly do), but I have to tell ya, mate: don't forget about style! As it is, you almost sound like a dictionary. Style, man. Style! Sorry to be harsh about it, but someone had to tell you.
14. Thanks for the heads up! I'll be following this with interest
15.
Is it really low powered and very heavy then?
You silly git! You don't seem to understand anything! No it's just quite average, and no other combo has exactly that quite average ratio. Comprendo? Glad to be of help!
16. Bah! I could've done this soooo much better if I could've done it at all. Stunning indeed.
17.
a small fragment of beer can is acting as a shim for the time being
That is the way to do it. At least if you're one of those classic, autarkic types. (read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert Pirsig for the ref.) Then: what Leen says. Not everyone reads here, but in the Amps & Cabs forum your readers will be interested in amps. Here, Leen and I are just interested in saying "hi". We're simple people: basses and amps go above our heads. Welcome to BC! Enjoy the banter. best, bert
18.
routinely pay £thousands for instruments and wouldn't dream of performing in public with some few-hundred-quid-piece-of-junk that people who play "pop" instruments think is the norm.
That is such a good way of looking at it! So reasonable and realistic! Keep them basses coming! Seriously though, it is a good way of looking at it. Basses are soooo cheap. In fact their pricing is one of the reasons I finally gave up on keyboards, and started with the bass instead. Bliss!
19. Hey Paul, Welcome! Yup. You came to the right place alright. Now head over to the spiritism thread where you'll learn that rainbows are not real. It's all superstition! Enjoy the forum! best, bert
20. You're all just weak persons with no traces of character strength whatsoever. Me OTOH, before, I wanted a Precision, Jazz, Streamer, Thumb, Dano, Alembic, Wal, Steinberger, Status, StingRay, Bongo and Rick.* Since, however, I just want a Precision, Jazz, Streamer, Thumb, Dano, Alembic, Wal, Steinberger, Status, StingRay, Bongo and Daisy Rock.* So it's just reasonable to say I went the opposite way. Now, amps on the other hand ... I'd just envisaged I'd own a practice combo and eventually just maybe a gig combo. Cue two years, and I'm listening to and comparing 6 heads, 5 different cabs and three combos. And it's all your fault! *) Lot longer list of basses held back from view for reasons of webforumpostcompactness. ... and prying eyes...
21. Did I already tell about the bloke who'd hid roughly 6,000 quid in the basement, and when his wife found out, she immediately ordered a kitchen? Seems to follow a pattern indeed.
22. Missing bar? Missing bar? What you on about, girl? I'm just great at the 1 bar blues, the 2 bar blues, the 3 bar blues. etc. .... upto and including the 11 bar blues, but have yet to nail this elusive 12 bar one. Maybe a bit above my head and slightly beyond the quantity of my fingers... Sax: nope. I just borrowed one for a few months, as I played the flute back then. But I'm really a keyboardist. My personal take on cool: Really cool instruments: bass, drums, sax. Slightly less so: guitar, pipe organ and modular synths with loads of knobs and jacks Nothing for a while . . . . . Piano.
23. Cool stuff! Thanks! Oh and congrats on an easy repair. So, preventing it from wandering, eh? Hm. I think I'll write a note.
