Just a noob idea, but: headstock angle and how the string rests in the nut? Not meaning any disrespect, but have you looked at the nut from the side? With a low compliance string like this one, I imagine there may be something wrong that I've seen a few times: the string making an ugly bend over the nut - seriously hindering free vibration. Some changes there, and it worked again.

Hey SB, Welcome! Yup, you're not alone. I tried the saxophone once, and could improvise a sax solo well enough, but only in 1 to 11 bar blues. Never ever reached your 12 bar level. So relax and rejoice! You're OK. That and you chose some cool instruments. Enjoy the site! best, bert

When such happens, I just stick on extra wide self-stick rubber feet, after having equipped the surface of the cab with neoprene glue and having let that glue dry. It reduces the height/width ratio drastically, which is good, and also removes the need to penetrate the case material.
Ordered it from Amazon.
...where it's only £4.49!!! Ordered it immediately. Thanks for the heads up, guys!

Genz Shuttle 6 - problems with power fluctuations
BassTractor replied to MolioMan's topic in Amps and Cabs
Shuttles have switched-mode power supplies. Just a few days ago, another thread on here indicated that these are dependent on the correct voltage. Maybe your answer lies there, Idunno. -
Can you explain how a resistor could vary with frequency, unless it was also behaving as an inductor?
Not me personally, no. I just got convinced by an article I read about it. YMMV. -
Best way to tell the wife..... ' I've just bought a new bass !'
BassTractor replied to Tullfan's topic in General Discussion
Hahahaha! That brings it to a whole new level. I'll make a site. Send me two quid, the specifics of the bass, and your name, eg. "Steve from Exeter". Hm. Make that three quid. -

"Hon! I managed to sell your mink! Fantastic, eh? No more guilt! And the new bass is totally environment-friendly! British too! Warwick! Yeah, Bass Direct." -
Oh yes! Miniature pipe organ made out of matches and matchboxes, with miniature notes of an existing organ piece. Me sis made it for me almost four decades ago. Twill never leave me. Best birthday present I ever got. An bottle of a French wine called "Le petit Bert". It's just gotta be lousy wine, but I ain't throwing that bottle. And this is only some of the music related stuff... Bonjour, Le grand Bert

Hey Richard, Nice intro for a bloke who's not planning on staying. I hope you live in a populated area so people can get a hands on experience with the Overwater. My guess is this is paramount for getting a reasonable price. Sadly it's buyers' market now. At any rate, good luck with the sale! best, bert

Swedish? Lefty? Two wrongs don't make one right, you know ... Välkommen, Johan! Hoppas du gillar att vära här! Vänliga hälsningar, Bert
WOT has just been kind enough to drop off the 12/6 cabinet.
See? This is where BC is for losers while YouTube is for winners. If we had had any quality at all, WoT's trip to you would've been a vid upload by now!! Great show. Keep us updated indeed! (as if we need to).

Strap button placement was a problem before I shortened the strap. Now it sits perfectly, and I've dedicated that strap to that bass. YBMV (belly) Lack of headstock is no problem at all as long as pink flower shaped stick-on note paper exists. Very endearing with a pink flower there!

Add a Genz Benz GBE 750 to the statistics. (Excited as Hull: ordered yesterday, paid today, and should be with me within two weeks.)

Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
adequately explain [...] why cheaper pots would affect the sound compared to more expensive pots of the same value
Oh, but that's simple. A pot is essentially a resistor, and as any resistor will have a certain frequency response for starters. Problem with quite many pots is that that frequency response will change considerably when the knob is turned, making some hi-fi amp builders to not use pots at all, but opt for lots of expensive resistors instead, and mechanics so that one can choose between them with a volume knob. I'd guess not only frequency response are altered, but also phase linearity, but as said it's a guess. As an aside, AFAIK, knowledge about stuff like that started NAD. It's said they designed their first amps so they had predictable performance despite cheap components. This way they were able to make well sounding amps for a tenner or two. -
The Korg MS-20 was 1970s vintage
Yup, it was, but did have its heydays in the 80s. Though it was introduced in '78, many countries had to wait until '79 before getting them in stock, and in Holland, the very first one (before main stock) didn't arrive until July or August '79. Edit: suddenly realise I may be misremembering that last bit about Holland.
horrible FM synthesis bass sounds were the staple of pop records
OK, but it's not so that FM can't do good bass sound. It's just that FM needs a better programmer to pull this off, as "amateurs", for lack of a better word, make mistakes early in the process that they never escape from later on. Me personally, I'm supposed to know my stuff, having taught FM at music college. Still, I'd use three whole working days to program a good bass sound, and must say one doesn't do that very often as it gets very tedious. Better programmers than me did it a lot quicker though. Sh*t I'm ranting.
What a lovely word!
Innit? Should be in the dictionary, like "warmth" is. I'll come in again...
Glad you could bring it down to 'my level', appreciated.
I hope you noticed I have you in high regard. Took it just one letter down. (BTW, I understood where the tongue was. Just couldn't resist an open goal.) As to power ratings, I guess it's like with many other things: that even when sellers don't lie, that they still can have a hard time agreeing on what constitutes a good way of relating to them.
having a separate gain/volume is better but i'm pretty happy with my LB30 already ......
Same here. In an ideal world, I'd like a pre gain, a power stage gain, and one of those ultra expensive heavy duty post power stage volume control thingies (an UEHDPPSVCT). Twill never happen, I guess.

Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
BassTractor replied to blamelouis's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but what are half pots please? It can't just mean they're tiny, can it? I'd guess it's about the resistance plate or spiral, but don't know at all. -
All of which is totally over my head I'm afraid
OK, then let's get this down to your level: TC say and sell it as m watts, when it isnt, its f watts run through a multiband limiter/(other assorted shenanigans) Glad to be of help.

One does well realising that stuff happens. Tolerance and calmth are the key in my book. Someone who like me deals with the UK and Germany extensively, once told what he had learnt: "The Brit will say he'll deliver in august, and you might get it in november. The German says he'll deliver Wednesday 13:50:00, and he delivers Wednesday at 13:50:00. However, when you yourself have trouble with something ... who is gonna be the kind, forgiving guy who'll not hold it against you?" I feel he was onto something. But this only works with tolerance and calmth. BTW, I vividly remember my first £30,000 order in the UK. Asked them whether I could order even though I had no money yet, and might not even get a loan. Answer: "No worries, mate. We do that all the time. "

After buying from reputable specialists, Thomann is my second choice, and I've spent roughly 4,000 quid there and only received superb service and advice. Have not had need for returns yet though, so can't comment on that aspect.

Welcome! What BetaFunk says. Also, as this stuff was discussed not too long ago, I think maybe half a year or so ago, you could find relatively updated and fresh info by just browsing through the threads there, or with a search for "beginner". Enjoy! best, bert
