Swedish? Lefty? Two wrongs don't make one right, you know ... Välkommen, Johan! Hoppas du gillar att vära här! Vänliga hälsningar, Bert
WOT has just been kind enough to drop off the 12/6 cabinet.
See? This is where BC is for losers while YouTube is for winners. If we had had any quality at all, WoT's trip to you would've been a vid upload by now!! Great show. Keep us updated indeed! (as if we need to).

Strap button placement was a problem before I shortened the strap. Now it sits perfectly, and I've dedicated that strap to that bass. YBMV (belly) Lack of headstock is no problem at all as long as pink flower shaped stick-on note paper exists. Very endearing with a pink flower there!

Add a Genz Benz GBE 750 to the statistics. (Excited as Hull: ordered yesterday, paid today, and should be with me within two weeks.)
adequately explain [...] why cheaper pots would affect the sound compared to more expensive pots of the same value
Oh, but that's simple. A pot is essentially a resistor, and as any resistor will have a certain frequency response for starters. Problem with quite many pots is that that frequency response will change considerably when the knob is turned, making some hi-fi amp builders to not use pots at all, but opt for lots of expensive resistors instead, and mechanics so that one can choose between them with a volume knob. I'd guess not only frequency response are altered, but also phase linearity, but as said it's a guess. As an aside, AFAIK, knowledge about stuff like that started NAD. It's said they designed their first amps so they had predictable performance despite cheap components. This way they were able to make well sounding amps for a tenner or two. -
The Korg MS-20 was 1970s vintage
Yup, it was, but did have its heydays in the 80s. Though it was introduced in '78, many countries had to wait until '79 before getting them in stock, and in Holland, the very first one (before main stock) didn't arrive until July or August '79. Edit: suddenly realise I may be misremembering that last bit about Holland.
horrible FM synthesis bass sounds were the staple of pop records
OK, but it's not so that FM can't do good bass sound. It's just that FM needs a better programmer to pull this off, as "amateurs", for lack of a better word, make mistakes early in the process that they never escape from later on. Me personally, I'm supposed to know my stuff, having taught FM at music college. Still, I'd use three whole working days to program a good bass sound, and must say one doesn't do that very often as it gets very tedious. Better programmers than me did it a lot quicker though. Sh*t I'm ranting.
What a lovely word!
Innit? Should be in the dictionary, like "warmth" is. I'll come in again...
Are they still in business?
Hehehe. Yup! Have been for 20 years.
Glad you could bring it down to 'my level', appreciated.
I hope you noticed I have you in high regard. Took it just one letter down. (BTW, I understood where the tongue was. Just couldn't resist an open goal.) As to power ratings, I guess it's like with many other things: that even when sellers don't lie, that they still can have a hard time agreeing on what constitutes a good way of relating to them.
having a separate gain/volume is better but i'm pretty happy with my LB30 already ......
Same here. In an ideal world, I'd like a pre gain, a power stage gain, and one of those ultra expensive heavy duty post power stage volume control thingies (an UEHDPPSVCT). Twill never happen, I guess.

Squier vintage modified jazz fretless question.
BassTractor replied to blamelouis's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but what are half pots please? It can't just mean they're tiny, can it? I'd guess it's about the resistance plate or spiral, but don't know at all. -
All of which is totally over my head I'm afraid
OK, then let's get this down to your level: TC say and sell it as m watts, when it isnt, its f watts run through a multiband limiter/(other assorted shenanigans) Glad to be of help.

One does well realising that stuff happens. Tolerance and calmth are the key in my book. Someone who like me deals with the UK and Germany extensively, once told what he had learnt: "The Brit will say he'll deliver in august, and you might get it in november. The German says he'll deliver Wednesday 13:50:00, and he delivers Wednesday at 13:50:00. However, when you yourself have trouble with something ... who is gonna be the kind, forgiving guy who'll not hold it against you?" I feel he was onto something. But this only works with tolerance and calmth. BTW, I vividly remember my first £30,000 order in the UK. Asked them whether I could order even though I had no money yet, and might not even get a loan. Answer: "No worries, mate. We do that all the time. "

You'll be happy to know that I'll pray for you, SRPete. You'll be sad to know I pray to dark forces from the deep. Get well soon! -
After buying from reputable specialists, Thomann is my second choice, and I've spent roughly 4,000 quid there and only received superb service and advice. Have not had need for returns yet though, so can't comment on that aspect.

Welcome! What BetaFunk says. Also, as this stuff was discussed not too long ago, I think maybe half a year or so ago, you could find relatively updated and fresh info by just browsing through the threads there, or with a search for "beginner". Enjoy! best, bert

Some folks on BC explained why the Spirits are lesser basses than the Hohners. Have no time to search, but you may have. My take is the B2B passive one is a great bass, and I hear the B2A active one is even more inspiring. The B2B comes rather close to a Precision if needed.

Leen, my love, you heard Anekdoten? ("Vemod", "Nucleus") Awesome, imho.
The LB550 is not all valve .......
Yes, but the point most probably made by Bigwan is about the Gain, which is pre preamp, and the preamp in the LB 550 comes from the LB 30, so it's a good point.
Not sure if it's just me but I find it really hard to get excited about amplification
No worries. There's this guy in Upper Volta who ... Seriously though, I may be quite similar even though my above post might point in a different direction. I just want to learn about amps, and imagine that after that I will settle for a certain style and one rig (or two if must) for the rest of my life. Now basses on the other hand ... .
Wonder why that was?
I told you! Really! It's about genetic disposition. As far as I understood, they've only recently discovered this, but papers are out on the subject. I read an article referring to "new research showing... "

OK. My main reasons first. They are these: 1 - learning about gear 2 - learning about gear 3 - learning about gear My extensive gear list is soon to be joined by lots of other stuff, after which most of it will disappear again, so I'll be left with one set that will do it all, or one modern Hi-Fi set and one old skool set with valves - in which case the old skool set will be the Ashdown Little Bastard 30 and two LB 112 cabs - coz I luuuurve it. That said, for the time being, I use: - Ashdown Little Bastard 30 with LB 112 cabs - Ashdown MiBass 550 - Beta Aivin BP-35 combo - Beta Aivin BT250H - Harley Benton CB-110X combo - Orange Micro Terror guitar head with PPC 108 cabs - Orange Terror Bass - Peavey Rage 158 guitar combo Soon to be joined by: - Barefaced Compact and Midget cabs - Vanderkley 112EXT cabs - some Hi-Fi head, preferable one that does a good old skool in addition.
I know a few right handers who still don't use their little fingers, even after years of playing mind you, depends on what sort of stuff you play too I suppose....
Yeah, and as I recently read also your genetical disposition. As in: some muscle groups in one's body might as it were "resist" being developed, whilst other muscles groups might "embrace" it. Personally I think I recognise this, as my finger muscles never developed much, despite me playing pianos, harmoniums and mechanical church organs for up to 10 hours each day for years and years. Always struggled. At the running track however, my leg muscles would develop at lightning speed, and I'd always be amongst the best. Sadly I'm not a runner but a musician.
