1.
Why is he listing it collection only - most people pay cash in hand for collection only stuff.
StingrayPete explained that above. Apparently, scammers suddenly have to travel abroad or something, and must post it anyway ... It seems like a good scam to me, as they've already gained some trust with the "collection only" bit, and have dragged the victim through emotional/rational phases when it comes to the point of posting. Where are Medieval punishing methods when you need them, eh?
 2. Hey Lazybones, Welcome! Good luck with the Jazz hunt. You did find the Marketplace on BC, did you? best, bert
 3. Wouldn't know, JX. I'm just a noob with too much gear curiosity. I'd imagine though that the differences are quite manageable. I just compare with for example lutes, where one might play on 17 strings, and have to manage melody, chords and bass line all at the same time. What's one extra string between friends, eh? But what I do know is that one should be careful in demanding too much handspan too quickly. Keeping our hands free of damage (or what's the English word) is priority number one in my book. You got a teacher? I'll have my first lesson the coming week.
 4.
Forgot to show my yellow bass
Oooow! That's cool!
 5. Hi JX, Welcome! Looks like you need a fiver, yeah. Or rather: go with a sixer right away and churn out those trouserfla .. wallflappin' F#s down there around the 0.7 Hz mark! GO girl! Enjoy the site and its occasional quality. best, bert
 6. Bon soir, Dennis, et bienvenue au bas du chat. I'll come in again... Welcome, Dennis! Enjoy the site and its chat. best, bert
 7.
If getting Ashdown cab. 1x VS212 or 2x VS112?
IMS, in another thread it was stated that soundwise they are virtually identical solutions. That said, if it's true that the 212 is 8 Ohm like the 112, then you might prefer to combine two 112s and get 4 Ohm just in case you might use them with a solid state amp somewhere along the road. Me, I've got two 112s: one above the amp and one below it. This may be totally wrong, unscientific and unethical of me, but that way I always have a speaker cone at ear height, regardless of whether I sit or stand. I like that. YMM, and should, V
 8.
If you can hold on 'til Sept 21st, you should get yourself over to the South East Bass Bash 2113
Pffft! What a wait! (well ... somebody had to. I just volunteered)
 9. Cool! Meelikey. What colour is that?
 10.
they probably sound great
Irrational Like 1 (OK, so a case can be made for that being a rational like. I admit it.)
look Star Trekky
Irrational Like 2
difficult to spell
Irrational Like 3 Whilst I'd never imagined owning a GK, I'm sooo getting one now! The spelling pulled me over.
 11.
BTW isn't it funny how people get up in arms about greedy companies legally avoiding tax but are happy to consider evading tax smuggling a misrepresented item through Customs.
Yeah, I'd agree with the general sentiment, but it's not certain these are the same people (unless you checked), and there's always the point of tax returns not always being a viable option in the country you're leaving. Personally, I happily pay my VAT and other taxes, but really hate to pay them twice -- in the process actually paying tax again over the first tax, before we've even mentioned costs.
 12.
Sorry, these basses always looked to me like the spawn of the unholy union of MM Stingray and Parker Fly!
That's cool, of course. No "sorry" needed, I think.
 13.
Don't ask how I know this statistic but take it as good advice. [...] Please don't ask me to elaborate by pm or otherwise.
Well, it's a moot point now, as Dingus already explained how you did it. I don't understand it BTW. What if one of the condoms breaks? One can die! So you're a customs officer, eh? Innersting ...
 14. Can't help with the wattage question. Sorry. There should not be a need to buy anything especially "tubey" or creamy, as that sound already comes from the LB. A good flat cab with good excursion speed and phase correctness (i.e. relatively expensive cabs) should be good. From my limited experience, there is little wrong with the BC 212. However, what I read on BC and other places is this: as it's a ported cab, the LB quite possibly can't control it enough. The damping factor of a valve power stage is virtually non existent. You'd probably be better off with a sealed cab. But if you like the sound of the BC212, there is no real need to shift. Sealed cabs are not a technical requirement for valve amps. Me, I do enjoy my Ashdown LB 112 cabs with the LB30, but those cabs are obsolete, and followed by the very expensive CL range, and to some degree by the cheaper VS range. Enjoy the bastard! best, bert
 15. Here's a serious take from me as well: I tried to avoid trouble when returning with instruments, by already showing the instrumens to customs on the way out. Mind ya, this was expensive stuff. Each time, I could sense that customs didn't want me there, and certainly didn't want the administration of it. One time, I was plainly asked to drop it, and as a result I haven't done it the official way since. Have never had trouble since entering Holland or Norway or the UK, but have always been able to smile friendly at the question "Do you have a receipt?", and answer confidently: "Yup, but it's at home. Didn't fancy bringing it with me." I think the core is in the confidence. b, b
 16.
Problem ?

Grumpy?
OK, guys. Thanks for the clear cut feedback. I wasn't feeling grumpy, but apparently came across that way. Sorry for that. The point stands though, even though it was worded more eloquantly by Grangur. best, bert
 17. Well, you chose to not ask a mod beforehand, and the question is really quite lame and unnecessary, so ...
 18.
THEY will decide how much it's worth
Yeah, was afraid of that. It's the same here in Norway now. Couldn't resist posting though. b, b
 19.
...and it's no good trying to tell them at customs that the 1960 stack knob Fiesta Red with matching headstock Jazz Bass you bought only cost $50
Huh? Whatever happened to printouts of No Reserve auctions incorporating knowledgeless product descriptions and lots of speling muistakes ... and one invited bidder only ... oh and the PayPal receipt to follow it? I also dislike how some bad people use a label printer to equip a bass with the production number and barcode of a bass that is sitting at home with its local shop receipt. - Got a receipt for that? - At home. Can scan it and send it to you within the hour, mate! Yup, I [s]loves[/s] hates my label printer! Also, when bringing home your US bass, you're soooo not equipping it with the numbered neck plate of your UK one ... That would be dishonest. best, bert
 20.
"Basses" section? There's probably loads there.
I guess there is. BC has shown more Bongos than shops in the UK can provide. Also, in the Gear Porn forum, there's a Music Man thread - not that I've checked it for Bongos: http://basschat.co.u...an-porn-thread/ best, bert Oh, and here's som humouring the OP: my 2007 Dargie Delight 4-HH:
 21.
quite brilliant.
It is, innit. Then, what else to expect from Tauzero. But I wonder who has them in stock. I can't find one, even after spellcheck said it's not "viagram". b, b
 22. Hey Nick, Welcome! I think we have another gent from Valencia here, so be careful with what you say. ;-) Enjoy the site some more! best, bert
 23. I've just disliked the sunburst colour schemes since I was a lad in the sixties. Dunno why really, but I guess it has something to do with the total design of electric string instruments. Even in the sixties I felt those designs were of a different era (from twenties to fifties), and spawned very uneasy choices, and I do still feel most of them are uneasy and old fashioned as well as cliché indeed. Once promised myself to never own a sunburst. However, that promise is on the return, as I see more and more sunbursty basses that I do fancy, like some of the Music Man Honey Bursts. best, bert
 24. FWIW, I think the "negative" comments in the isobaric cabs have mainly or all been from people who comment on the isobaric principle or on Orange's naming convention (them calling an isobaric 112 a 212). I can't remember any negative comments on the sound of them, though maybe there are some. So I don't think BC comments are a reason to avoid trying them. (Me, I haven't heard them, and can't comment.) best, bert
 25.
every time I liked a bassists tone, it was a Markbass rig.
Hey! That's my line! As in: exactly the same happens to me all the time. I'm flabbergasted about it. best, bert
