1. Congrats! Let us know how you get on with it. best, bert (GASsing for the Micro head with 210)
 2. Quite some irrational responses here, indeed, them going all rational 'n' stuff. Me, I can't find one. Have enough dislikes, but they're about taste, and hardly interesting. (coffee table basses, sunburst, "design" that is not design but an amateur's take on "originality" .... the list goes on forever ...) Wait! Hartke! Now that is irrational. The stuff must be good, but I just can't approach it anymore after having heard a set with a 410 that was bloody, bloody awful, and probably just faulty. That is an undefendable dislike, and thus irrational. best, bert
 3.
Despite not liking Sunburst (I'd put it on a par with how much I'd like a metallic pink bass) or that horrible top horn, I could sit & play a good fretless Jazz all day long.
With you on the sunburst. The "horrible top horn" is another matter though. See, it's not a top horn at all. What you are seeing is a cutout in a traditional roundish body - the point being that a cutout design is a different language than a top horn design. It's a different world, really. See? You think it's beautiful already! Mission accomplished! best, bert
 4.
And up for more answers!
I'd love to help, Nikolas, but: - I lack the technical gear that your test requires (good sound) - To me as a foreign English speaker, your foreign English sadly is undecipherable. I have no idea what you want me to do, and what you are asking for. Sorry man. Thought it better to let you know than to leave you in the cold, even if this is unpleasant. Good luck! best, bert
 5. Hey Chloe, Welcome! Pro bassist? Sounds like a plan. Good luck with that. I hope the thing in your avatar is really how your Jazz looks. It's awesome with that blue pg! Anyway, enjoy the site! best, bert
 6. However, I do indeed own this here one cello-thingie, here played by a friend who has it on loan. A classical musician, she plays it Harnoncourt style:
 7. Butterscotch Blonde for me too, I'm afraid. However, some bright mind allowed us some green as well. Here's a pre-production prototype attempt at a Bongo. Don't own it, mind. 8.
Poor bastard, stuck there in jazz hell when he could be knocking out Mustang Sally down the dog and duck...
9. Sorry for the late reply, guys. Real life 'n' stuff.
I've just checked my LB30 schematic and the volume control is post effects, in fact it is right before the power stage.
Thanks, Geoff! I'll simply keep the volume on it down then.
This may be a dumb sugestion but what about selling the LB30 and the MiBass500 and use the money to fund a LB550 purchase? Are the prices too far appart? I'm not familiar with the Ashdown ranges and prices on this new units.
See, the LB550 was lim.ed. - - 50 units only. Also, IF it were to be imported to Norway, it'd cost 2,000 quid, seeing as it's already 1,800 dollars in the US. My LB30 and MiBass 550 both were on deep offer, and cost me a total of roughly 600 quid.
What about using the lb30 for stage volume, and DI into FOH? I've done this and works rather well: the DI out is tapped from the output transformer.
If I get to do stadiums (which in my case would mean local venues with maybe 300 seats), then we'd have no FOH at all. But yes, that would work well, I gather. I'd just be very wary about pressing the LB30 in a venue that is not my living room. I'll have to get back to you on my experiences. Sadly haven't been able to test it yet. b, b
 10.
Which one did you get?!
... and in my case it was a generic MM case without Bongo badge, carrying a 2007 Lim.ed. Bongo Dargie Delight. (As relayed, the lid gave in when the bass found it wanted to travel through the case. This heavily bent the volume pot shaft, the volume knob slightly damaging the pot recess lacquering.) b, b
 11.
And the lower horn was a bit of a pain in the thigh.
Its only drawback imho. That and the fact I didn't like it in this vid! Its looks are stellar in my view, and the only worthy competitor to the Steinberger headless. Courses for horses, I presume. best, bert
 12. I fully agree with Evil Undead. best, bert
 13.
anything above the 12th is for musicians, not bass-players.
Huh? We share genes with drummers and sopranos? best, bert
 14.
this ... it's lush
It is! And not only that. It's Mike Keneally too! Thanko mucho for posting. b, b
 15. Hey mate, As it happens, we discussed this very point just days ago in the Bass Guitar forum in the Gear section. You can have a look there. Simply put: on regular MMs, the neck pup just gives extra possibilities. However different EQ and switching exist, so it can get slightly complicated. (BTW not so with the Bongo, as the bridge pup is moved on the double pup models.) best, bert
 16.
I am not slagging him off, just wondering why the cult of personality with this one player over 1,000 others of equal standing?
Without entering a debate about his capabilities, which I know nothing about as I don't know the guy, the cult of personality thing IME is just stuff that happens, and I tend to compare it more to the normal/binomial distribution of the balls at the bottom of a Galton box (bean machine) than to actual "formal" "deservedness". In the keyboards world we'd see great players like Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson overshadowing greater players of the same style period, like Dave Stewart and Kerry Minnear. Nothing to use time on, imho, other than bringing others to the fore. b, b
 17.
I'd love to be overrated by Anthony Jackson
I had that pleasure when he asked me to never ever enter the stage, and to just keep enjoying my playing in the bedroom. Enjoying, yes. Bedroom, yes. But playing? I'm sooo overrated by Anthony Jackson! best, bert
 18.
Anyone know what gear he uses?
His bass in this vid is a Coura from Coura African Guitars. Model is named Malindi 5 Kai Eckhardt signature. Dunno about other equipment. b, b
 19. I like its looks, and it's also scarily close to a project I'm working on myself, but even if I had the money, I'd never use it to support the [s]a*hole[/s] person who tries to sell it with Speed-of-Sound snake oil. IF this person knew exactly what he was talking about, I bet he'd go about it in a different way. Evidence, or it's snake oil. best, bert
 20. Sorry, have lost track about turntables. For the rest: with that budget, I strongly advise going second hand, or looking at the micro component systems that some large multistores do cheaply, like the Yamaha MCR-550 and Philips DCD7010, both with iPod docking, or the JVC UX-G70E and Yamaha PianoCraft MCR-232, both without, I think. Second hand could land you component Hi-Fi of normal type, or for example a Yamaha MCR-740 or even MCR-840 The 840 is simpler than the 740, as in less programming possibilities and no wake-up function IMS, but even better at sound quality, and the 740 already beats anything in its vicinity. BTW 740 does external iPod dock. 840 has dock on amp. Of these, I have not heard the Philips, but it seems well-recommended enough. The JVC is the only thing I've heard that makes a positive impression alongside the Yamahas. I've used hours and hours testing with all the demanding and rewarding test CDs that I've used for decades to undress Hi-Fi equipment. BTW, did I mention I like the Yamaha PianoCraft series? In case not: I like the Yamaha PianoCraft series. best, bert
 21. Wow! Thanks for posting! best, bert
 22. It has been said, I think. My own noob take, and relayed here before, is that while I lurve my Bongos and StingRay, the RockBass Corvette of the last two years is a lot closer than the price difference might seem to indicate. Dunno about the other brands mentioned, but I read that with keen interest. For me personally, the Bongo's 4 band EQ is the most important of the differences - - coz of my pet peeve of bass and treble knobs being less important to the timbre shaping than the two mids are. imho. best, bert
 23.
Exactly my point. Just because someone has not sat down and formally studied from books doesn't mean you don't know theory. A five year old child understands the 'theory' or 'rules' (if you like) of English. They've never read a book but they know the alphabet and what words sound like and mean. Theory isn't rules to be followed, it came after the music to explain why what you play works and to enable you to communicate to other musicians more simply. It's not there to tell you what to play.
Great point, well worded IMHO. best, bert
 24.
...but then you have all the effort of relicing them...
