Which one did you get?!
... and in my case it was a generic MM case without Bongo badge, carrying a 2007 Lim.ed. Bongo Dargie Delight. (As relayed, the lid gave in when the bass found it wanted to travel through the case. This heavily bent the volume pot shaft, the volume knob slightly damaging the pot recess lacquering.) b, b
And the lower horn was a bit of a pain in the thigh.
Its only drawback imho. That and the fact I didn't like it in this vid! Its looks are stellar in my view, and the only worthy competitor to the Steinberger headless. Courses for horses, I presume. best, bert -
anything above the 12th is for musicians, not bass-players.
Huh? We share genes with drummers and sopranos? best, bert -
this ... it's lush
It is! And not only that. It's Mike Keneally too! Thanko mucho for posting. b, b -
Hey mate, As it happens, we discussed this very point just days ago in the Bass Guitar forum in the Gear section. You can have a look there. Simply put: on regular MMs, the neck pup just gives extra possibilities. However different EQ and switching exist, so it can get slightly complicated. (BTW not so with the Bongo, as the bridge pup is moved on the double pup models.) best, bert

Pino Palladino...once again...how sh*t hot is he?
BassTractor replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
I am not slagging him off, just wondering why the cult of personality with this one player over 1,000 others of equal standing?
Without entering a debate about his capabilities, which I know nothing about as I don't know the guy, the cult of personality thing IME is just stuff that happens, and I tend to compare it more to the normal/binomial distribution of the balls at the bottom of a Galton box (bean machine) than to actual "formal" "deservedness". In the keyboards world we'd see great players like Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson overshadowing greater players of the same style period, like Dave Stewart and Kerry Minnear. Nothing to use time on, imho, other than bringing others to the fore. b, b -
I'd love to be overrated by Anthony Jackson
I had that pleasure when he asked me to never ever enter the stage, and to just keep enjoying my playing in the bedroom. Enjoying, yes. Bedroom, yes. But playing? I'm sooo overrated by Anthony Jackson! best, bert -
Anyone know what gear he uses?
His bass in this vid is a Coura from Coura African Guitars. Model is named Malindi 5 Kai Eckhardt signature. Dunno about other equipment. b, b

I like its looks, and it's also scarily close to a project I'm working on myself, but even if I had the money, I'd never use it to support the [s]a*hole[/s] person who tries to sell it with Speed-of-Sound snake oil. IF this person knew exactly what he was talking about, I bet he'd go about it in a different way. Evidence, or it's snake oil. best, bert

Sorry, have lost track about turntables. For the rest: with that budget, I strongly advise going second hand, or looking at the micro component systems that some large multistores do cheaply, like the Yamaha MCR-550 and Philips DCD7010, both with iPod docking, or the JVC UX-G70E and Yamaha PianoCraft MCR-232, both without, I think. Second hand could land you component Hi-Fi of normal type, or for example a Yamaha MCR-740 or even MCR-840 The 840 is simpler than the 740, as in less programming possibilities and no wake-up function IMS, but even better at sound quality, and the 740 already beats anything in its vicinity. BTW 740 does external iPod dock. 840 has dock on amp. Of these, I have not heard the Philips, but it seems well-recommended enough. The JVC is the only thing I've heard that makes a positive impression alongside the Yamahas. I've used hours and hours testing with all the demanding and rewarding test CDs that I've used for decades to undress Hi-Fi equipment. BTW, did I mention I like the Yamaha PianoCraft series? In case not: I like the Yamaha PianoCraft series. best, bert

Talk To Me About Musicman Basses Please.......
BassTractor replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
It has been said, I think. My own noob take, and relayed here before, is that while I lurve my Bongos and StingRay, the RockBass Corvette of the last two years is a lot closer than the price difference might seem to indicate. Dunno about the other brands mentioned, but I read that with keen interest. For me personally, the Bongo's 4 band EQ is the most important of the differences - - coz of my pet peeve of bass and treble knobs being less important to the timbre shaping than the two mids are. imho. best, bert -
Exactly my point. Just because someone has not sat down and formally studied from books doesn't mean you don't know theory. A five year old child understands the 'theory' or 'rules' (if you like) of English. They've never read a book but they know the alphabet and what words sound like and mean. Theory isn't rules to be followed, it came after the music to explain why what you play works and to enable you to communicate to other musicians more simply. It's not there to tell you what to play.
Great point, well worded IMHO. best, bert
I think an honest discussion of the good and bad points of music can be very enlightening, so long as it's conducted in an amicable fashion.
My natural state would be to tend to agree. However, real life has told me to keep well away from the bad points of music, as well as I can. One reason, for example: - Personally, I love Genesis music. - Genesis music is patchy. - I don't want the patchiness to ruin my appreciation of it. - I stay well away from analysing it. - I love Genesis music. Success! best, bert -
Why, oh why has BC yet to teach me to play like that? Honestly, let me play like that for ten minutes and I can die happily and leave you guys alone. What a prospect, eh? Thanks for posting! best, bert

Hey Trevor, Welcome, man! You should hear my p-bass tone on 'Brand New Hell' BTW, how did you slip "reciprocate" through the BC LPF (Low Posh Filter)? Now, I understand it, and you understand it, but remember there's people from England here as well ... Enjoy the banterpartaking and infoexchanging! best, bert
Dolby Labs took Thomas Dolby to court when he first released an album to try & stop him using "their" name.
Ha! Reminds me of Paul van Vliet (Dutch entertainer) taking Paul van Vliet (baker) to court, and winning, even though the baker had worked under that, his own, name for decades before the entertainer came about trademarked his name. Old world (everyone uses his own name; no trademarks) met new world there. In Norway this wouldn't have been possible, as anyone can start a firm using their own name as firm name. Thomas Dolby could build and market noise reduction here, though not as Dolby Labs. But he could use Thomas Dolby without trouble, and could register and use Dolby, Dolby Lab, and Dolby Labss. best, bert
