NBD : Custom overwater contemporary jazz
BassTractor replied to pierreganseman's topic in General Discussion
yes its possible with a 33 inch
Nonsense! It can't be done. Look, a low B is 61.7354 Hz - give or take in equal temperament, and thus disregarding some Pythagorean overtone stuff. Divided by two, this gives a neck length of 30.867 inch. Your neck is 33 inch, a factor 1.069 too long, giving you a slightly uptuned low C. One can't beat physics, see. etc. etc. etc. best, bert PS Sigh. Yes, I know ... -
Can anyone identify this? Help needed!

OK, you charmed me enough. PM me a postal address and I'll sent you some living snakes, and you can extract the stuff yourself. I won't send the readily extracted drops. EU Apply-By-Date rules 'n' stuff. Sorry. best, bert -
Leen, love ya like a bro, but "careful" I can't be. Must have lived when I die. b, b

I can just add to others' experiences. Me, I wasn't too keen on seriously trying a 700 quid classical guitar that had no sound quality whatsoever - obviously due to very, very old, bad factory strings. I just handed it back saying it badly needed some serious strings. Shop keeper's son said he'd think of it, but that most customers don't hear it. I beg to differ: most customers do not walk straight to a 700 quid instrument. I understand what he's saying, but why take the risk on such an instrument? Anyway, they must have done something, coz when I returned recently, it had gone. Many years plus moons ago, I was ready to buy a 3,000 quid black Les Paul Custom (sorry, but that is what they cost here). Shop keeper had it hung from a thread in the shop window facing the South-West - where the sun starts baking said LP from 9 AM to late in the evening. No thank you. It's a dog by now. Same as above: how can I judge the amp and cab when it's facing sideways, in close contact with other stuff in the shop, whilst shop keeper could easily have turned it 90 degrees? The amp/cab probably is not a dog, but should I buy it virtually unheard? The list goes on. best, bert

How can you live with yourself ?!?!?!?! I just had a Heart Attack (Sheer, admittedly, but still). Piano players?!?!? Here?!?!?! Oh, and a big thanks. I'll certainly use that a lot. Was just contemplating however to proceed to get both lotsa piano sheet music and a new Bongo, and now you've solved it for me. Bongoshops of the world, here I come! best, bert

Hey Nosmo, Welcome! Your family name is King, right? Anyway, enjoy the banter, the kworreling and the occasional exchange of info. Oh, and for downsizing, you need an Orange Micro Terror with two PPC108 microcabs. Or, if that's too fanatical a form of downsizing for your taste, I'm sure the community wil chime in. Put a question with a budget and some requirements in the Amps & Cabs forum, and the ideas wil start flowing your way. One of the better ideas is an Ashdown Little Bastard 30W valve amp, and there's gazillions of class D amps. A pair of 110 or 112 cabs that fit in your bookshelf, and Sir Robert soon becomes your dad's brother. best, bert
Is that for me or the shop?
Sorry, mate! It was for you, but I now take it back with oak leaves 'n' stuff, after your relaying more detail on the situation. I'm with you on being assertive. best, bert
the B-Town is Beith in North Ayrshire. I'm originally from Motherwell, but gotnon the wrong bus one day and had no money to get home, so I built crude accommodation from tree bark and the skin of junkies.
You're younger than me! In my days, we used hippie skin. BTW, Beith = good - it's in Ayrshire, innit. I love some peeps in Coylton. b, b

Thanks to this thread, I pulled out Gaucho again, and was flabbergasted by how much it had grown on me during the "unplaid" years (always hear stuff in my head though). It's as if the studio has vanished and the compositions sound deeper and more personal than ever. These are bad tidings. I now have to get me CD versions. I'd not bothered before, but now I must. Still: thanko mucho for posting! best, bert

Any advice on how this guy gets his sound?
BassTractor replied to Jigster's topic in General Discussion
My immediate thought was a Sample & Hold controlled filter with not too high resonance. Hope this helps, but I'm not sure. best, bert -
Well, Duncan, let's just hope that by "B-Town", you mean Edingow or Glasburgh, and not that you're living in that.. that ... Buckhaven in Fife ... or even that you originally are from Fife!!! Welcome, lad, and congrats on your great introductory post. Write as longlyish as you like. The longer, the easier for us to look away, so there's really no catch. Enjoy! best, bert
Would that be Stealin' Dan?
Not quite but you're nearly there. Well done! -
Another one spaketh truthe! At 25 quid only for the Sansamp clone from Behringer, it's a no-brainer, says my no-brain. It widens your scope, coz like Chrismuzz indicates, you're not limited to certain amps anymore, and the cabs this way can be allowed to be of the more precise and airy type that will take any signal and mainly represent it faithfully. That imho is a huge advantage. YMMVBIAR. b, b

Yes! Paul spaketh truthe! Go test the BH500 plus double cab. I'ts a good deal - for good stuff that I think migh fit your requirements quite well. The built-in tube sound is really nice, as is the compressor. Really nice amp at that price point, and one that I think you can't go wrong with. I'm not saying it's the best stuff ever, mind, just that it is agreeable and good enough. Me, I prefer it above the mentioned Ashdown 300 / 410 (which here in Norway is more expensive). I would have bought one recently had it not been for the shop asking for money for it - something that took me quite by surprise, and that didn't agree with my wallet. BTW, in my previous post I was mixing up stuff. A new MiBass 550 of course is not as cheap as I hinted at. That said, there are at least two used ones on the BC Marketplace. I am not the person to tell you whether the MiBass could do a better job for you than the BH500. Another option: MarkBass do these tiny cabs that can scream, and the heads to go with them. More modern maybe than what you described, but they are not clinically modern, and do add their own timbre. Me I like them. Every time one is played on a stage I go like Mmmmmm ... bass tone! I have no idea about the different models though. Others must chime in for that. b, b

First, and before I forget, the only amp I've tried the sub harmonic on was the Ashdown MAG 300. On that amp, it was only usable as an effect on slow notes, as it came in so slowly. Others may be better, but I do have the slight feeling that it is gonna cost due to the way good suboctaving works. Lustworthy amps like Aguilar ToneHammer and Genz Benz Streamliner and many others are above the budget, I reckon, and since your nice warm tone may not come from a very expensive (valve) head, I think I'd have a look at an Ashdown for example. Now I found my MAG 300 w. 410 quite uninspiring myself, but its EQ does give it flexibility when one is willing to dial. In your case this could mean a MAG 300 and two vertically stacked 210 cabs if they do them. The step up to the AMB series is discussed. I haven't tried it, and have no idea whether the step up is worth it or not. You could also try an Orange Terror Bass 500 head with just about any cab. It's the famous one trick pony with heavily dipped mid frequencies that might hinder push through, BUT many people love it. Still, me, I'd probably go for a not too dear class D head like the Ashdown MiBass 550 with an Ashdown CL cab that fits the budget. Some good EQ on the head, and you can make a fairly good nice warm tone. Oh, now I think of it: how about used gear? Or did you already state that? b, b
providing additional cab can be fitted under Neath
Ouch! There is not a lot of space under Neath. Might we be able to convince you to fit them under Holyhead instead? Or at least under Bangor? What others say: ignore the size of one speaker. Rather concentrate on total area. The days have passed that the godawful speakers of yesteryear could be "judged" by size. Before we narrow it down, do you have a budget? 1500 quid will near buy you heaven on earth, but maybe you won't go there. best, bert

Hey Rob, Welcome, man, and thanks for the nice read. I can relate to a lot of what you wrote, including the photography. Just that in my case, I'm about to give it up, as the bass requires my time. Just learned the other strings are meant to be tuned differently, so now I've suddenly gotten the A, the D and the G to relate to as well, making a total of four (4) different notes! A 300% jump! Anyway, don't mind me, and enjoy the site! There's some good lads and lasses around. best, bert (Al not Ro)

Ah, it's only because nobody likes me around here, so I have time to check BC twentyfourseven inbetween customers, kids and exes. Welcome, Alex! You were lucky not only finding us, but even getting the attention of both Dandelion and Cheers Leen, two exquisite specimenses of the whomb-man race! That, or you're demn shrewd and cunning. Anyway, I hope you like your stay. Just relax and put and end to putting an end to people 'n' stuff. Also don't be a stranger. Partaking is the best medicine. Be kind to others and let no-one tell you otherwise. Enjoy! best, bert

Tempted by an Ashdown Mi Bass 550..........Close.
BassTractor replied to weepaul's topic in Amps and Cabs
The estimated Mr. Neil Bargen-Sellers means this one: http://basschat.co.u...ass-550-for-obt Don't buy it from him though. He doesn't know yet that he needs both his MiBass 550 AND his Terror Bass. b, b -
Nobody even care enough to warn the OP against pre-EB bongos? I guarantee you that they do not hold water when compared with the Bongos that Ernie Ball builds. (Sorry, but someone had to say it. Itz za loow.) best, bert
