I have problem with shipping at buyers cost though...
Great, Andy! I'll only buy from you hereafter! best, bert

Cleaning frets? Our Cleaning Frets™ do this automatically, but still only on 18V basses. We'll soon have a 9V version ready though. They're in the last stages of testing. Put in your orders now. I've paid my 20 quid several times.

Mmmmm ... twelve Mars bars!!! ..... -
This is a noob question, I know, but noobs do still exist, so ... I've often wondered what type of Voltage and output impedance can be found in amp's effect loop outputs, and what type of effect gear builders think of when building amps with these. I understand there's a difference between feeding an "effected" signal to the preamp or sending an pre-amped signal to an effect unit, but that is not what I'm trying to ask about here. It's just about the electronics in this: voltages, impedances and whatever else that is linked to it. I'd noobly assume that say a Boss floor effect will do nicely with both hot and less hot pups/built-in preamps, but then, does the average preamp in the amplifier change any voltage at all? I'd assume most head preamps do not actually amplify, but that some do. I'd also noobly assume that a unit like a TC Electronic G# or M350 would expect say a 1V signal with low output impedance, and might not do well with a cold passive pup. These assumptions may be on Mars for all I know. So, does it matter at all (remember: voltage and impedance wise that is - I'm still not talking about preamp settings affecting the signal before or after an effect unit), where in the chain you put your different units? Thanks for any info that helps my poor brain. best, bert

Can't seem to find this being mentioned or shown yet, so here goes - hopefully not again: Marc Vanderkley reckons his new amp Aurora will be ready in October. Should make an impact at some level, seeing as how the previous one was lauded with weird oak leave thingies and whatnot. Now before you search your lining for change, do please realise this thing is gonna cost. That means "money". I mean: serious money. - Input for passive/active instruments, 0/-12dB. - 5-band active tone control. - Loop with dry/wet blend. - Continuously Variable Damping factor to control speaker damping - Master volume - The pre-amp is built up from high end discreet audio op-amps. - Stereo Aux in, Send/Return, - Headphones out with adapter jack to mini jack. - Balanced DI out, Pre/post eq, Ground lift, - Tuner out. - 700 Watt @ 4 Ohm, 1200 Watt @ 2 Ohm. - Weight around 5 Kg. - The power-amp is class D with switch-mode power supply. - It is two rack units high and comes with rack-ears for 19" mounting. - Supplied in a sturdy road case.

Elliot, any special type of haggises you prefer? Each time I was in Scotland, someone would explain me there's mainly two types of them: the ones with the long left legs that run clockwise around the hill, and the ones with the not-short right legs that run the other way around. If they're on the same isopleth, it soon is too late for paracetamol, and one can just pick them. Idunno what's best myself. Don't even taste any difference, and have never seen any that was not on my plate. b, b

Hey Elliot, Welcome! Sadly, that is not funny at all. It's deplorable, and we lament it. But hey, horses for courses, so if you enjoy doing it, who are we to stop you? (Must admit I enjoy it myself.) Another sad thing is you're one of the blokes who didn't buy enough Brora thirty odd years ago. You're responsible, man! That out of the way, enjoy the site! You'll not only find friendly people here, but also some Scottish people. best, bert

Squier classic vibe modification ideas?
BassTractor replied to marcus bell's topic in General Discussion
Exactly the answer I was looking for
In that case, Marcus, here's my answer: The fundamentals of the bass sound like they're good & solid (neck & body), sort the electrics out n you're rockin'...new wiring loom from kiogon (bc electrical maestro), replacement pup (wizard or some other similar quality) and the rest is aesthetics, if the tuners aren't stable enough for ya swap 'em once you've tried 'em, hipshot are superb... :-D best, bert -

Great post, KingBollock! You know, I'm starting to think the swimming pool between you lot and me may be wider than I thought previously. I'm not sure though. See, as a Dutch bloke, I tend to think the Brits and us blend well, and have a lot of humour and sensibilities that are similar. However, recent experiences on BC seem to indicate that the sensibilities are wider apart than I thought. Or I'm daft of course. It may also be that I can't or shouldn' expect the same sensibilities on an Internet forum as in everyday life on the streets. At any rate, everything you write rings well in my ears, so I guess I must just become better at realising that BC first and foremost is written from UKayan perspectives. b, b -
When I made this point in a ( hopefully ) humourous way in another thread recently I was , bizzarely enough , accused of gross sexism , racism and castigated by all and sundry . I have very serious doubts sometimes about the reasoning skills of some members on this site . Or maybe it's me .
Totally with you on this. In that other thread there seemed to be a lack of understanding about how one can make jokes within the context of shared knowledge about our history. Similarly, when a new female member introduced herself recently, someone (was that you?) made a lovely joke about her choosing to have a bass rig for ... wait for it ... the kitchen! That and similar jokes are NOT sexist. It's a recognition of our sad past. It's funny too. As to the reasoning skills, the worrying part is that you seem to still doubt sometimes. Some people on every forum in the world are so thick that they don't even recognise superior minds when they see them. BC can't be an exception, and it isn't. Nice folks though. People here are (Generally) lovely! best, bert -
You have issues, eh? Meet us in Off Topic. b, b

Ste, does this mean you pay the postage out of your own pocket? In case, many of us could just send directly to the US. That or we could support you in that respect if you feel it gets a bit expensive. Looking at the pic, it looks like it will. best, be ;-)

Nah. A heavy duty GPS unit with large battery, hidden in the headstock, and we're talking. But yeah, it can indeed be of help despite its weaknesses. Better if 10 % are returned than 5 %. best, bert

A real Me Dunc bass on eBay? Wow! One would think it doesn't happen in real life. Then to think it went for 40 quid too! Mine cost 7,000 second hand! Sorry, can't be of help, but couldn't resist after seeing the MD non-acronym. best, bert

Stop talking about steamy! I feel a bit sceptical about changing the air around the bass all the time. Can't quantise, but it didn't ring well with me. Air is a fantastic isolator, but new and newer air much less so. I'd rather put a cardboard tube around the stand to slow down processes. Will edit after some more thought, if necessary. best, bert

Hey B-B, Welcome! Good advice comes with the territory, so you should be seeing a lot of it. Just ask away, and I won't know the answer, but others will. Yes, except for all the guys who are miserable, we're all doing just fine. Except me of course. Enjoy! best, bert

You guys have me in stitches with your inventiveness. Even the most obvious ones have a sting to them that makes them quite much better than just daft. Also, the made up ones IMHO are clearly better than the existing ones. Well done, and thanks! (I needed this after a major quarrel with the ex. I thought we were supposed to be past that!?!?) best, bert -
Hey Stu, Welcome! You're happy playing anything? It's Stamp of Approval time! As to bass vs. dear old Scotchland, you'll find we have a huge Scottish contingent here. You'll be at a bass bash before you know it. Enjoy our company! best, bert
I prefer head and cab. It's easier to upgrade one component at a time and I think it's important for musicians to fully understand what a particular piece of gear brings to the table in terms of sound quality.
This. Get two heads eventually. For learning, fun, back-up and whatnot. b, b

Hey Chris, We'll do our very best. Welcome to BC! Edit: Oh, and the StingRay is soooo yesterday evening! Today and the first half of tomorrow is Bongo day! best, bert

The Young Neils are good, and Neil himself seemed to think so too, as he wore their t-shirt on stage some years back, and IMS had one or some of them play with him. -
Hey Mark, Welcome to BC! That was your first good choice. We'll get you there. I can add little to what has already been mentioned. Just use most of the money on the amplification. Cheap basses can be great indeed, amp and cabs less so, unless you can lift old and heavy but still great gear like Trace Elliots, Peaveys and others. Basses: Yamaha, Ibanez (except the cheap GSR-180), Squier (Affinity if checked, Vintage Modified if checked, Classic Vibe unseen), but also some leftfielders like a Danelectro 58 Longhorn or a used Hohner B2B cricket bat are good and fun basses. Me, I recently acquired a Daisy Rock bass for the excrutiating price of 69 quid, and it's just lovely (not perfect, but good enough). When looking at the Marketplace, you can always ask the community for opinions on specific gear that has taken your fancy. I think that that might be the effective way of doing it. Good luck! best, bert Edited for specification of cheap Ibanez

OK then. I'll give in. But remember I'm being weak here, and on collision course with my principles. Welcome, unknown person with a J, to the micro world that is BC 2013 years too late. I'm sure you'll have a great time here. For most of the time, we're soft and cudly, funny and unfunny. Oh, and some of us actually know something, whilst others (admittedly just a few) have actual brains. You should be OK. Now enjoy, and don't be a stranger, hear! best, bert
