1.
May have annoyed the neighbours ... windows open & turned it up loud
You opened the windows and played loud music? Sorry, but I wonder what the fekk is wrong with you! You should've exchanged those neighbours with people of taste long ago. C'mon lad, on the double ... And don't be soft on them now! b, b
2. Hey John, Welcome to BC! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Your B2A was regular scale, 34". Really. However, it has special strap button placement, so it tends to stick rather much to the left. Also, its headless design makes that it's easy to choose bum notes when one plays another bass one is not used to. This however will be no problem once you own a bass and get used to it. I'm a noob, and have no problem shifting between my Hohner and other basses. Then again, I've found a strap length for the Hohner that compensates largely for the Hohner's peculiarities. A new headless fiver of any quality resembling the B2A (which is a great bass (and yes, 70 quid is a steal!)), will cost you much more, so your budget commands you to go second hand. BC is a good source for that, and scandalously cheap at that these days. Going short scale with a headless fiver will make you'll need quite special strings to make this sound well, and my guess is you'll be hard pressed to find those strings. Not only must they be short scale (rarer) and made for headless (rarer), but also their thickness and compliance will not be standard because of the low B demanding quite some strings before working on a short scale. All in all, your better bet might be to opt for a headed fiver with 34" scale. If I'm wrong, rest assured others will chime in an confirm I'm way out there. At any rate, enjoy the site! Oh, and Welshland is my second home, after Holland and Norway. best, bert

4.
where do you play then Bert?
RoyalBert Hall of course, and Carnegie Hall when I'm over there. No, just schools, churches, concert halls and the like. Mind ya: it's all in the past. b, b
5. Bonjour Luc, Bienvenu au chat de la basse! Évidemment il faut que tu choisiras un chat pour ton avatar (comme moi). À bientôt, bert
6. What Pembo says. The TC made me sell my MAG (though with 410) for roughly those reasons, and I think Pembo describes it very well, the essence for me being the pushing through bit. Also, I experience the BG as more flexible, as the MAG needs more dialing before anything changes. Not that I think the MAG is bad or anything, and I'd happily own it or gig with it. best, bert
7.
One complaint later - Ebay judged in his favour - a Squier IS a Fender; made by the same company isn't it?
Sigh. And yet another good reason to contemplate to stop using EvilBay. EvilBay and PaynPal are really doing everything they can to scare away honest people. best, bert
8. Hey Devonrex, Welcome! I too wish you'll have a good time here. The tone here is different than on TalkBass, but I trust you will not be disappointed. Enjoy! best, bert
9. Welcome, Wayne! Man, you were lucky with that login name! Are you aware that it has your real name in it? Seriously. Just look!
Hi guys I'm new here.
For one short moment I was convinced/afraid you weren't talking to us, but to the guys you found upstairs during your wedding night. Happy to understand that I was wrong. Now start enjoying five more years. best, bert
10.
a fantastic keys player from holland
That's pleonastic, that is. I think I can sense where you're coming from. For me, playing keys was always about harmonic development first and foremost. Now trying to play bass, I don't miss it though. The harmony is either implied or loud and clear in my head. That said, it's an old pet peeve of many, incl. me, that every musician should play the piano as well. Might I add the drums? best, bert
11. No problems of those types ever, if memory serves. Then again, never played in a bar or other place with drunken people, and I gather that is an essential difference. best, bert
12. Hey Peter, Welcome from one who's better at being a noob than you (1.5 year, no band, no bar bill), not that we condone it. Enjoy BassChat, and good luck with the gigs tomorrow (today). best, bert
13. Hey Expert, Welcome! Reportedly many members on here started out just to flog something, but got bitten by the bug and led happier lives since. No worries. Enjoy! best, bert
14. Some lovely lady indeed. Keep her close. Will she share the recipe? best, bert
15. Hi Op.451, Welcome to BC! That was a nice intro you wrote - it has great atmosphere. Then again, I know zilch about the language of the Brits. Don't listen to SpaceChick. She's only a classical musician. One should never listen to classical musicians. That said, there's lots of girls on here, so you are in good female company Enjoy the site! best, bert classical musician
16.
He's lovely
So this is what the world is coming to. Even Shelley has become a gay guy.
17.
It means you are fantastic and have earned the right to look down your nose at everyone, and think mediocrity is a really bad word
Ah! Thanks, Milty. Yup, as a fantastic representative of the arts, I surely have earned that right, but you will be happy to hear that I don't look down at clownwhores. (Why, after so many months do I still think it's funny? What if that is because I'm just a clownwhore? ) b, b
18.
Also this might be a noob question but you can't underpower a cab can you?
Normally not, indeed. The less signal goes to the cab, the more the cab will relax. But a cab with large cone surface wil get less detailed at ultra low volume like when playing at night and trying to not waken the kids - but I gather this is not what you were asking about. In the case you meant to ask about combining an amp and a cab that have very different wattage ratings, then really very much has been written about that already, and I gather you're best served with a search. best, bert
19.
Must be tough keeping up with all those prog bass parts and fitting your massive head through the door at venues that will have you!
Sorry, but I didn't get what that means. I can guess the first part to mean that it must be tough to play those parts, but the second part escapes me. Could you please explain? b, b
20. Anyone who clicked on that subject line is a stupid fool. There! I said it.
21. Brian, my friend, you have terrible taste. I even contemplated becoming a homosexual just to have a chance of enjoying Ped even more. That, or I'm a liar. best, bert
22. According to an article I read, avatars not changing on people's browsers is normal, and a forced update is what normally works. I forgot the details about why this is, and can not vouch for it being true, but in any case, after reading the thread and seeing I had the old avatar on my screen, pressing F5 did change it for me in this case, on a pc with Firefox. Oh, and congrats! I noobly agree it sounds lovely. best, bert
23. ... and also welcome from someone who loves Wales as his second home, has baked a mother&child cake, lives very close to the woods, has a Jazz and an Ashdown, and knows zilch about Cardiff. Enjoy the site, Dan! best, bert
