2. Hey Emily, Welcome to BC!
my name is Emily...
Job done then. That will get you friends.
Having only one bass rather sucks.
Ah! You're one of those, eh? Those ... w i s e ones ...
That's all I can think to say for myself now.
It's all good, E. Enjoy the banter as well as the happenstantial exchanging of ye info. best, bert
 3.
I once tried a 3rd, making the whole thing sound like a 1st inversion, it made my head hurt and I had to sit down for a while. I think it was Jazz....
4.
Ok i think ive worked it out. This is me with the wife and inlaws!
Congrats! Luvly pic. OK, I think I've worked it out too: You didn't mean the usual FLTR but weirdly chose to adopt FRTL !! Anyway, you DO have lots of charm, and I guess your wife's father is really just her young stepfather? Good luck with your new marital stage! ... State! Status! best, bert
 5.
Start with Jamey Aebersold playalongs. Google it.
This^ if you want to be as good as I am. I used them and stink at playing jazz. Just kidding! I think they're seriously good, but I also think you do need an idea of what is expected of your role, as in requiring jazz listening experience. Problem with CD players normally being you can't change the speed, I'd say it's best to convert the Aebersold tracks to MP3, and play them in a program like Audacity - at low speed at first. I was adviced to not start with book 1, but sadly can't find my books right now to pass on the advised ones. Others may chime in. Edit: I do remember book 2 and 3 being amonst them though, and upon checking, find that book 1 now comes with an extra CD with the music at considerably lower speed. Good luck! best, bert
 6. Hi Neil, Welcome! I'm sure you'll find loads of nice stuff to read on here. Beware though: start smoking BC and you risk taking it intravenously very soon. As to your quest, are you sure about the Spirit? If I remember correctly, people warn against it as being far from as good as a Hohner. At least, after reading, I went for a Hohner myself. You coulddo a search in the Bass forum within the Equipment section to check this. Anyway, good luck with it. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 7. Wow! Great initiative that is. Thanks for posting! best, bert
 8.
Leave it for a week or two. Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Maybe swap some of your gear around?
That is very stupid advise. Must be, coz I agree totally. best, bert
 9. When a great bass also is a design classic, then ... er ... er ... Idunno, but at least it's a great bass and a design classic. Well done. Congrats! best, bert
 10. Hey Chris, Welcome! Yeah, please tell us more. It's not every day we get in someone from PH. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 11. Hey Hrodwulf, Can one say "welcome" in a situation like this? Anyway, it's great you're being upfront about it. For advice, I'd say just stick your description on General Discussion, seeing as there are different pieces of equipment. The more info the better, and pics will help too. Upload your pics to PhotoBucket and copy and paste the IMG links from there into your post. Make sure you mention that you'll be selling on here only after having paid the fee. You'll be met with a more positive attitude then. Selling on BC is hard these days, but I gather it has its own advantages. Don't expect people to just send you money, so make sure you provide alternative ways to do this in your ad. Good luck! best, bert
 12.
It's a j retro deluxe 01
AFAIK, this is not a deluxe. The deluxe that I know has three stacked pots plus a single one. This looks just like a regular J-Retro 01, unless of course John has changed features at some point in time. best, bert
 13. Not for me. I prefer to pay for the sites I use regularly. But as I understand it, I'm in a minority there. best, bert
 14.
We all have guilty pleasures (musically), outside of the social image we create for ourselves, it just depends if you admit it and don't feel guilty I suppose.
Yup, though one should still insist on calling them guilty pleasures. Because Funner. b, b
 15.
and that's being generous by describing 5% Of Nothing as "music".
Them's fighting words! Personally, I love that thing, and in my humble opinion it also wonderfully introduces Long Distance Runaround. best, bert
 16. Thanks, guys! Glad to know I can't afford it, as it sounded very nice. That bass has a characteristic I love: it really wants to play, just like any other good instrument. BTW, that guy is Jan Erling Holberg, a Norse bassist who has a project, aptly named Jan Holberg Project, involving Joe Lynn Turner, and it's on Norse TV from this evening, as a series. Looking forward to it. Must be the first ever series about a bassist who's bored with everyday office life, and despite being a family father, chooses to follow his muse at age 47 (all the others I've seen are about people aged 46). Thanks again! best, bert
 17.
Steve Reich - Music for Mallet Instruments Voices and Organ
. Oooh! What a great choice! We had two ceremonies. The one in Holland featured an ex-girlfiend of mine playing the flute, and my sister playing on a late 17th century pipe organ. They did some music I'd written, which was cool. The one in Norway featured friends of my wife, and they did some music she had done with them earlier. That too was cool. As others in this thread, and much to the distress of my F-i-l, we too walked the aisle together. best, bert
 18. Congrats, Craig. Have taken a look, and like what I see. Is there any progress structure in the planning, so one can quickly find what to start with and what to drop for now? Good luck with the project! best, bert
 19. I'm sure I've seen it on BC, but can't exactly search on bass looks. Ped, Kiwi! Here's a job for you! ...and sorry to be one of your detractors. Anyway, I'm sure it's a known bass, but could anyone tell me what name it lives by? best, bert
 20. I'll buy! The pedals, that is. Thanks for writing it all down. It's always interesting with stuff like this. BTW, that MIA would set you back 2K here in Norway, so go buy it while it's on offer! best, bert
 21. Wow, this is certainly interesting, but I have to admit I don't have them. I only have those bad ones. Seriously though: yes! Bad days nothing seems to work. Good days everything reaches the sky. My ex used to recognise this, and remark that she liked my lesser days better, as I tended to play more conventional music those days. Gig-wise, I've never found a link between my own perception of my playing and the audience's. Only once have I experienced that someone in the audience had been present three days in a row, and had the same perception as I about those three gigs, but he was a muso. best, bert
 22. No, I don't have issues with being a little ashamed when admitting something. Seriously though, and I don't know it it's similar enough, but though I love classical music, and it's the only type of music that I master, I can't for the life of me contemplate playing it for classical audiences. I dislike classical audiences, and would much rather play happy, funky music for happy, funky people. Funk is a good style for that. best, bert
 23. This is the main reason I have so many basses. A song is not learned until I can play it on all of them. Learned this when, as a keyboardist, I had trouble playing well-practised music on a different keyboard. Problem was easily solved once I realised this, as after that I consistently either played the stuff on different instruments, or played them using different sets of techniques so as to "mimick" playing on a different keyboard. Worked wonders, and I became a much more usable player after that. From what I read on BC, my feeling is that more bassists should adopt this keyboardist trick. best, bert
 24.
minor tweaks
Thanks for that! You just made June 17th a beautiful day in Tractor Manor. It can't be ruined anymore. b, b
 25.
One of the few things i've noticed since the £20 fee came in is there aren't as many.......
Speaking only from my own perspective, I stopped doing stuff like that - - not when the fee came, but when the alternative Marketplace was tested - the one without the discussion threads. After that, I just never went back to look and comment. Staying away is also driven by my fear I might see something I fancy - which would not fit my general skintness. My guess is this may go for other people as well. best, bert
