1. Thanks sooo much! It's bloody brilliant, and maybe the most inspiring app I have. Yesterday evening I was Geoff Gascoyne! Sadly, Geoff could hardly play yesterday evening, but that's just a minor quirk of the software, I guess. ;-) best, bert
2. I'm afraid there might be some misunderstanding within this thread on what constitutes sexism. In my opinion, a male appreciating an attractive female playing an instrument that is not traditionally linked with females is not sexist, and joking within the frame of a shared knowledge about the sad, sexist history of mankind certainly can't be either, I'd believe. That said, one can well be appreciative of other people's feelings and other people's reference frames when writing, so I'm not trying to say each and every remark should be applauded. That said, this was to be about the tone in that recording, and we should go back to it. b, b Edit: written before seeing CB's last post
3.
For some reason can't do paragraphs so excuse the block of text!
Not trying to make a joke: Have you tried hitting Enter some extra times? I sometimes have to do that, but I don't remember whether that is on PC or iPad. At any rate, for a new line I then need two linefeeds, and for a new paragraph, I think it's three - maybe four. Of course right now it's working alright just so I can't test it. best, bert
4. IMHO: To me it sounds essentially like my active RockBass Corvette, though of course with some of the metallic clang filtered out. And yes, the difference between the sound of such a Corvette and the Bongo HH is not that enormous, and way less than the price difference might lead one to believe. That said, the Bongo's 4EQ is of another world, and I'd never ever do away with it and keep just the Corvette. The other way round though is a no brainer to me (though I hope to keep the Corvette). best, bert
5. I like it a lot. It's flexible, has character and I feel that with its mids, it will punch through in the mix. Flexible amp with IMO very nice SpectraComp and tube tone option. I'll probably buy one this year. Have only heard one configuration though, probably the 210. best, bert
6. You call that a tad rude? It's a leftie fer cryin' out loud!
7. As I'm officially lyrics deaf, the answer is "No". Would love to be able to hear them though, and would probably appreciate them. That said, I seem to share this annoying capacity with some others of being able to hear ghastly lyrics, like yesterday morning after church time, and from a car it came loudly: I follow Jesus I follow Jesus I follow Jesus for he is good I follow the cross I follow the cross I follow the cross for it is good Why in the name of the gods am I able to hear that one!!??!!?? best, bert
8. Without being able to diagnose, from your description I'm reminded of sounds I had once. In my case it was quite obviously surface mount components on a badly fixtured print board, and when temperatures changed things started happening. Might just be an idea, so I thought it best to mention it. best, bert
9.
Now then, lets get the full rig running
Now that's talking! b, b
10. Hey Ricky, Chat the few? Yup, one can do that here. So welcome then. One is never too noob to be old, so you'll be alright. Lots of searchable info, and questions are always welcomed. Enjoy! best, bert
11. You're welcome. I have never seen a short scale Hohner paddle, and according to Hohner themselves, the B2A, B2ADB, B2AV and B2B all have 24 frets and a 865mm scale. 865mm is 34", so I'd think that this someone was just plain wrong. Not that I would criticise him/her for it, and it's very easy to make that mistake. My own 30" scale bass is even longer than my 34" Hohner. Great plan with the swapping. Good luck with that! b, b
12.
May have annoyed the neighbours ... windows open & turned it up loud
You opened the windows and played loud music? Sorry, but I wonder what the fekk is wrong with you! You should've exchanged those neighbours with people of taste long ago. C'mon lad, on the double ... And don't be soft on them now! b, b
13. Hey John, Welcome to BC! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Your B2A was regular scale, 34". Really. However, it has special strap button placement, so it tends to stick rather much to the left. Also, its headless design makes that it's easy to choose bum notes when one plays another bass one is not used to. This however will be no problem once you own a bass and get used to it. I'm a noob, and have no problem shifting between my Hohner and other basses. Then again, I've found a strap length for the Hohner that compensates largely for the Hohner's peculiarities. A new headless fiver of any quality resembling the B2A (which is a great bass (and yes, 70 quid is a steal!)), will cost you much more, so your budget commands you to go second hand. BC is a good source for that, and scandalously cheap at that these days. Going short scale with a headless fiver will make you'll need quite special strings to make this sound well, and my guess is you'll be hard pressed to find those strings. Not only must they be short scale (rarer) and made for headless (rarer), but also their thickness and compliance will not be standard because of the low B demanding quite some strings before working on a short scale. All in all, your better bet might be to opt for a headed fiver with 34" scale. If I'm wrong, rest assured others will chime in an confirm I'm way out there. At any rate, enjoy the site! Oh, and Welshland is my second home, after Holland and Norway. best, bert

15.
where do you play then Bert?
RoyalBert Hall of course, and Carnegie Hall when I'm over there. No, just schools, churches, concert halls and the like. Mind ya: it's all in the past. b, b
16. Bonjour Luc, Bienvenu au chat de la basse! Évidemment il faut que tu choisiras un chat pour ton avatar (comme moi). À bientôt, bert
17. What Pembo says. The TC made me sell my MAG (though with 410) for roughly those reasons, and I think Pembo describes it very well, the essence for me being the pushing through bit. Also, I experience the BG as more flexible, as the MAG needs more dialing before anything changes. Not that I think the MAG is bad or anything, and I'd happily own it or gig with it. best, bert
18.
One complaint later - Ebay judged in his favour - a Squier IS a Fender; made by the same company isn't it?
Sigh. And yet another good reason to contemplate to stop using EvilBay. EvilBay and PaynPal are really doing everything they can to scare away honest people. best, bert
19. Hey Devonrex, Welcome! I too wish you'll have a good time here. The tone here is different than on TalkBass, but I trust you will not be disappointed. Enjoy! best, bert
20. Welcome, Wayne! Man, you were lucky with that login name! Are you aware that it has your real name in it? Seriously. Just look!
Hi guys I'm new here.
For one short moment I was convinced/afraid you weren't talking to us, but to the guys you found upstairs during your wedding night. Happy to understand that I was wrong. Now start enjoying five more years. best, bert
21.
a fantastic keys player from holland
That's pleonastic, that is. I think I can sense where you're coming from. For me, playing keys was always about harmonic development first and foremost. Now trying to play bass, I don't miss it though. The harmony is either implied or loud and clear in my head. That said, it's an old pet peeve of many, incl. me, that every musician should play the piano as well. Might I add the drums? best, bert
22. No problems of those types ever, if memory serves. Then again, never played in a bar or other place with drunken people, and I gather that is an essential difference. best, bert
23. Hey Peter, Welcome from one who's better at being a noob than you (1.5 year, no band, no bar bill), not that we condone it. Enjoy BassChat, and good luck with the gigs tomorrow (today). best, bert
24. Hey Expert, Welcome! Reportedly many members on here started out just to flog something, but got bitten by the bug and led happier lives since. No worries. Enjoy! best, bert
25. Some lovely lady indeed. Keep her close. Will she share the recipe? best, bert
