1.
it's sideways
Bollocks! Won't help at all. Worse even, you risk shorter valve life. Please stop spreading this unscientific treehugger nonsense. best, bert PS My own OTB is upside down. Now that's sound quality. Controls at 12 and it's just like a Glockenklang!
2. Hey Badgad, Welcome! You'll get all the ideas you need, including quite many 4- and 6-string ideas, even as an alternative to buying an amp, so there's no worries there. That said, I do think your best bet is to start new topics in the special sections, as more people read there. Don't forget to mention a budget, and exactly what type of angel quire you re-choir. That or just buy a bloody, ugly StingRay 5 and my wife, and be done with it. They say the low B of an SR5 is very good. Anyway, Enjoy the fora! best, bert
3. Hey Baz, Welcome! It's been said, and you have listened, so I have little to add, other than: good luck with finding the lowender. You're gonna stay here, yes? best, bert
4. Hey Ticktock, Lovely intro. Welcome to the fold! I'm sure you'll have a great time here, seeing as you suffer from the same SWS as the rest of us. Wish you a speedy recovery! best, bert, Ad hoc administrator, European Slim Wallet Syndrome Sufferers Organisation
5. All I know is everything in the OP is bollocks. The alternative is just too painful. Nice thread! best, bert
6. My pleasure, mate. Thanks for responding, and responding this classily. b, b
7. Don't know about dumbest, but a band here called themselves Pope, and probably wondered why people couldn't find them on the web. Changed their music a bit and were renamed Strange Days, after a certain unknown album. Yup, they're a lot easier to find these days. Not. Personally I don't get this. best, bert
8. album: Mikhael Zakhalev: "What's Life Without Losers" non-album: In Tyler We Trust: "SiCK"
9. Do you mean that you don't understand my post? Are you just calling me by phone? (Hence the "Hello???") But to answer: yes, I feel that I am in the right topic. 1) Your literate text reminded a lot of Proust, so I proposed it was a quote from his most famous work. 2) As to the phones in the UK, it never ceases to amaze me how my British friends and connections have a reluctance against using the phone, claiming it is so expensive - even when a 50p call could well save them 50 quid. Me, I thought that phoning that little shop and buy it over the phone would be the thing to do. best, bert
10. . It's from "À la recherche du temps perdu" ("In search of lost time"), and I'm claiming my five sovereigns. Edit: Question: do phones exist in the UK? best, bert
11.
I bet you didn't shoo it away, did you?
No, he didn't. BTW, congrats with your new string, Burrito! best, bert
12. I think the oft used ATA carnet can be used not only for travelling with your instruments, but also for international repairs. In case, it should make things easier. best, bert
13. Thanks sooo much! It's bloody brilliant, and maybe the most inspiring app I have. Yesterday evening I was Geoff Gascoyne! Sadly, Geoff could hardly play yesterday evening, but that's just a minor quirk of the software, I guess. ;-) best, bert
14. I'm afraid there might be some misunderstanding within this thread on what constitutes sexism. In my opinion, a male appreciating an attractive female playing an instrument that is not traditionally linked with females is not sexist, and joking within the frame of a shared knowledge about the sad, sexist history of mankind certainly can't be either, I'd believe. That said, one can well be appreciative of other people's feelings and other people's reference frames when writing, so I'm not trying to say each and every remark should be applauded. That said, this was to be about the tone in that recording, and we should go back to it. b, b Edit: written before seeing CB's last post
15.
For some reason can't do paragraphs so excuse the block of text!
Not trying to make a joke: Have you tried hitting Enter some extra times? I sometimes have to do that, but I don't remember whether that is on PC or iPad. At any rate, for a new line I then need two linefeeds, and for a new paragraph, I think it's three - maybe four. Of course right now it's working alright just so I can't test it. best, bert
16. IMHO: To me it sounds essentially like my active RockBass Corvette, though of course with some of the metallic clang filtered out. And yes, the difference between the sound of such a Corvette and the Bongo HH is not that enormous, and way less than the price difference might lead one to believe. That said, the Bongo's 4EQ is of another world, and I'd never ever do away with it and keep just the Corvette. The other way round though is a no brainer to me (though I hope to keep the Corvette). best, bert
17. I like it a lot. It's flexible, has character and I feel that with its mids, it will punch through in the mix. Flexible amp with IMO very nice SpectraComp and tube tone option. I'll probably buy one this year. Have only heard one configuration though, probably the 210. best, bert
18. You call that a tad rude? It's a leftie fer cryin' out loud!
19. As I'm officially lyrics deaf, the answer is "No". Would love to be able to hear them though, and would probably appreciate them. That said, I seem to share this annoying capacity with some others of being able to hear ghastly lyrics, like yesterday morning after church time, and from a car it came loudly: I follow Jesus I follow Jesus I follow Jesus for he is good I follow the cross I follow the cross I follow the cross for it is good Why in the name of the gods am I able to hear that one!!??!!?? best, bert
20. Without being able to diagnose, from your description I'm reminded of sounds I had once. In my case it was quite obviously surface mount components on a badly fixtured print board, and when temperatures changed things started happening. Might just be an idea, so I thought it best to mention it. best, bert
21.
Now then, lets get the full rig running
Now that's talking! b, b
22. Hey Ricky, Chat the few? Yup, one can do that here. So welcome then. One is never too noob to be old, so you'll be alright. Lots of searchable info, and questions are always welcomed. Enjoy! best, bert
23. You're welcome. I have never seen a short scale Hohner paddle, and according to Hohner themselves, the B2A, B2ADB, B2AV and B2B all have 24 frets and a 865mm scale. 865mm is 34", so I'd think that this someone was just plain wrong. Not that I would criticise him/her for it, and it's very easy to make that mistake. My own 30" scale bass is even longer than my 34" Hohner. Great plan with the swapping. Good luck with that! b, b
24.
May have annoyed the neighbours ... windows open & turned it up loud
You opened the windows and played loud music? Sorry, but I wonder what the fekk is wrong with you! You should've exchanged those neighbours with people of taste long ago. C'mon lad, on the double ... And don't be soft on them now! b, b
25. Hey John, Welcome to BC! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Your B2A was regular scale, 34". Really. However, it has special strap button placement, so it tends to stick rather much to the left. Also, its headless design makes that it's easy to choose bum notes when one plays another bass one is not used to. This however will be no problem once you own a bass and get used to it. I'm a noob, and have no problem shifting between my Hohner and other basses. Then again, I've found a strap length for the Hohner that compensates largely for the Hohner's peculiarities. A new headless fiver of any quality resembling the B2A (which is a great bass (and yes, 70 quid is a steal!)), will cost you much more, so your budget commands you to go second hand. BC is a good source for that, and scandalously cheap at that these days. Going short scale with a headless fiver will make you'll need quite special strings to make this sound well, and my guess is you'll be hard pressed to find those strings. Not only must they be short scale (rarer) and made for headless (rarer), but also their thickness and compliance will not be standard because of the low B demanding quite some strings before working on a short scale. All in all, your better bet might be to opt for a headed fiver with 34" scale. If I'm wrong, rest assured others will chime in an confirm I'm way out there. At any rate, enjoy the site! Oh, and Welshland is my second home, after Holland and Norway. best, bert
