1. How does one do that these days? Fewer and fewer of my programs work, and the same goes for the online services I used previously. If this is difficult, I'd also be interested to learn how one downloads the complete vid now YT have more advanced techniques to hinder this. Thanks! best, bert
2. Hm. I don't understand this. What speaker config are we talking about? 115, 210 or 410? b, b
3.
The amp alone is not in my opinion loud enough for the average pub
I agree. It needs speakers. ;-D Sorry. Couldn't resist. :-) b, b
4.
Got the Little Bastard today - brilliant, brilliant amp, genuinely blown away by it. Got band praccy tomorrow and dying to try it with the super 12T but I remember speaking with Alex about amp recommendations and I thought he said a full valve amp wouldn't work well with the cab - unless I'm completely mistaken as this was over a year ago. Any thoughts as to why this might be? Would there be any danger of harming either amp or cab? (Sorry to the OP for the derail)
I think this is so good and interesting question, that it would be wise to put it in a new thread. Many people will be done with the thread here. Personally I hope this is not the case, as I'm dying to try out my Little Bastard with the BFs once they arrive. Fantastic little amp indeed. best, bert
5. Can't answer you, but have you seen this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/209541-my-amp-blew-up/ It appears they're on sale now. best, bert
6. Hey Ian, Welcome from another noob, but one twice your age. You have good time to denoob yourself. That bass bug of yours is sure to develop into taking the BC Marketplace intravenously soon. Stuff is dirt cheap these days. Anyway, we (not me) are here to assist you. Ask about anything you don't understand while delving. People (not me) will stand in line to answer. Enjoy the site! best, bert
7. You might also find some inspiration in the version by David Schommer with David Jensen. Be aware that this version is very different, but who knows, maybe the bass still provides you with something. Me, I think it's worth one's time even if it doesn't: Good luck with this! best, bert
8.
So why did punk happen?
Not related to prog at all. Someone just felt the need to sing "She Hates You, Yeah, Yeah, Yea". best, bert
9. Yeah, amateur guitarist buddy of mine could not understand why I, a pro musician, would want to start playing bass. Explaining him will be expensive, as I can only keep him calm enough for long enough over a glass of Lagavulin. Sigh. best, bert
10. Hehe. Yeah, I know boom. Is this x about the pickguard, or is there more to it so there are sound reasons for choosing an x? b, b
11.
Do you mean a R... I can't bring myself to say it !
:-D Yup! Congrats, Andy! I'm lusting after both, but feel sure you'll just love your BB. They have so much character. Is it the 1024 you indeed went for? b, b
12.
And...?
Obviously the brand that cannot be mentioned. best, bert
13. Get the Yammie! Don't know what I'm talking about, but I hate when someone loses in a voting. b, b
14. I repeat myself when under stress, but: Congrats! I heard some bass! Now all we need is for you practise this stuff (ask them for the tabs) and that you put a playalong on YouTube. It's not too fast, is it? best, bert
15. Hey Yolanda, Welcome to BC! Apparently you have a lot to contribute, and I'm sure we'll be hanging from your lips trying to absorb each and every syllable. Me, I noobly have no idea who you are, so I'd ask you to please cut me some slack, so I can find out before getting jealous. BTW, people are not having pops at famous people here. That is a very, very sad misunderstanding. No fear. You'll do just fine. Enjoy the site and its banter! best, bert
16.
Genz Benz Streamliner 900 in bag over my shoulder + Barefaced Super 12 in one hand. I love it, and so does my back too!
Fixed that for you. best, bert PS I know.
17.
Life's a long song is among my top 10 all time fave raves, a beautiful song.
Cool! "Life Is a Long Song" is among my top 1 all time fave raves - most of the time. Bought the ep for like 50p and was an immediate fan. That ep must be something of the best they ever did. Anyway, I'm seriously contemplating to die happy. For that, all I need to do is to buy me a new guitar and learn to play LIaLS. That and "Nursie". This contemplation has lasted for four decades now. I love the song that much. BTW, the very, very first song I tried to teach myself when coming home with my first bass, was, of course, "Living in the Past". Fave albums are probably still "A Passion Play" and "Thick as a Brick". So much loveliness within those pieces - patchy as they may be. Then again, dozens of other albums are close runners up for me, so it's really hard to choose. best, bert
18. Didn't forget, but the battery said stop. :-) Happily, it has been mentioned now. b, b Would you like another cup of tea, dear?
19. Sorry you didn't turn into a treehugger. I'd still be as impolite as to say: go back to those trees, and repeat the song "Songs from the Wood" until you either love it or litterally throw up. I think it's a masterful song. Other than that, there's more where Living in the Past comes from - as in the period of their first three albums. Many memorable songs I don't remember. They have so much character and IMHO uniqueness. "Aqualung" is by many seen as the quintessential album. Personally I would add "Warchild". There are som unforgettable songs on that one, like "Two Fingers", "Bungle in the Jungle", "Sea Lion". Uh oh. Battery on my laptop. Bye!
20.
In that case, work your way forward from Rubber Soul (though take Skank's advice about Yellow Submarine - although Hey Bulldog is worth a listen). Sgt Pepper suffers, I think, from being overly lauded as THE album that changed everything. it's good, but probably not THAT good. If I had to choose one album for my desert island I'd struggle to decide between the White album or Abbey Road. I reckon it would be Abbey Road by the slimmest of margins.
This is exactly what I would've written. That is: if I'd been able to write it. Whatever you do else, you must hear "Blackbird" and you must hear "The Long and Winding Road". IMEHO (excrutiatingly) Have fun! Edit: and yes, indeed "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "For No-one" best, bert
21.
I must be lucky. I've just turned 40, and my 14lb (!) Warwick Streamer LX6 still isn't an issue.
. Sorry, mate, but they should have been more clear. It doesn't happen right after turning 40 but it's a gradual process. It starts when one turns 40 and five months, and is finished one week later. Sorry for being the bringer of bad tidings. Seriously though, and I think this may be a good thread to ask: - Do people have experience with double straps / other stap types that rest on both shoulders? I can imagine such solutions coming with their own drawbacks, but then again, if one has a serious problem, it might just help. - Do people have experience with routing away some of the "unused" wood from the back of the body? Certainly several possible drawbacks there. I'd expect more neck dive, but then again one can move the position of the strap buttons. Also, some woods might start to split after routing, as the wood will react to changing humidity. That could be handled though. best, bert
22. Nice story indeed. Thanks for sharing, and congrats! best, bert
23. Now, I don't know a thing about your experience level, so you may know this stuff a lot better than I do. No looking down intended. But I noticed you hadn't received an answer yet, so I thought it was better I answered than nobody. That said: From the look of it, it seems as if you may have had too high hopes for the difference between 180 and 307 W, which sadly is not much. People will hopefully correct me if I misremember, but I seem to recall you'd need ten times the wattage to gain an extra 6 dB. If the new combo has a 15 as well, IMS that doesn't help either. As far as I can understand, the 410 is seriously loud in smaller venues like pubs and churches. You could try the following: Create more headroom by turning down the lowest frequencies. The audience's ears will construct them back in. Experiment with the next button (filter frequency). Switch off the sub octave. Engage the onboard compressor in a relatively mild setting. Put some form of distortion on the signal and possibly tame this with the frequency knob to the left of the treble knob as well as the treble knob. Adjust gain and volume up. There should be space for that now. Experiment with combo placement so you avoid phase-unalignment in frequencies that are important for you Other than that, I'm not too fond of the idea of using different brand cabs together. Unless one is very lucky, they will have very different impedance curves both frequency-wise and amplitude-wise, and this is risky not only for the sound you get but also to the point of possible damage to the drivers. Well, that was my try. Good luck! best, bert
