Reading how people lend out or don't lend out, I'm wondering whether there's anybody here who's on the borrowing end and who shows no respect for the borrowed gear. Tmust be me, as I seem the only one who has not posted yet. Sadly though, if I borrow something, I treat it with the utmost care. As to lending out, I'm the sucker who can't say no. Also, I sooo want others to experience the same joy I have with the gear, especially if they're young and unexperienced, that I almost push it. Yes, I'm a lost case. On the other hand, before last year, I'd never owned my own amp, and always rented or borrowed. Someone must have lent it out to me. best, bert

Classic Albums - Zappa Apostrophe - Great Documentary
Bass Tractor. You're taking it personally -- exactly what i was trying not to do. I never said his music wasn't structured. So your entire argument is based on misinformation. I made the point earlier about scoring a cat walking across a piano would be difficult, but it'll still sound like a cat walking across a piano. Oh well. I guess I didn't state my case very well. Or maybe it was stated too well. I'm not sure.
Thanks, Lowender, for a measured response. It's much appreciated. I don't think I'm taking it personally at all. I am not a part in the discussion about Zappa vs. Beatles, and your calling Zappa's music names does not touch me. I'm just calling you out on net forum behaviour that I think does damage to BC. Must admit that when I wrote the word "structure", I knew very well that you could decide to call me out on it (though that was not my aim with writing it anyway). The point though was never that you litterally (literally?) said so much, as much as that your denigrating remarks more than hinted at it - whether you meant to or not. See, good music by definition is structured music, whilst structure in music does not mean the music must be good. Then, when you regard The Beatles' music as high art, your evaluation must contain an understanding of the quality of the music's structure. So: I don't think you stated your case either badly or too well, as I think what you stated was a clear representation of your case. The error however lies in the case itself, as, inherently, it partly is based on (ac)countable entities and partly on denying same. best, bert -

Can the ShuttleMax do a good Streamliner impression?
BassTractor replied to BassTractor's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks, guys. A definite "no" that confirms what was mentioned earlier, and in a clear fashion. I hate you, btw. This is gonna cost me moneys that I don't have. Anyone wanna buy my ex? Almost mint! ... best, bert -

IIRC, someone stated some months ago that the voicings are different enough that a ShuttleMax will not do a good Streamliner impression. I've tried to find it to no avail, so here's a new thread. So, howe sayest thee, your ladyshippes ande lordshippes? Can the ShuttleMaxes do this? Can they come close enough? Is it dependent on exactly which of them? Thanks! best, bert

Chipped the paintwork on my bass! F***!

I just have a slight problem with this thread and similar threads. The OP always lies about what caused the dent, and then the helpful but naive BCers omit to mention that one must remove any residue of human DNA before applying nail varnish. Hereby corrected. best, bert -

BassTractor replied to bassmanjake123's topic in Amps and Cabs
Jake, have you read the site's rules? You can't be selling in this segment of the site. best, bert -
Just so it's mentioned: Is it only a hum, or is there a nosiy fan as well? Silent fans and fan regulators work wonders. Good luck! best, bert

Nothing. Really! Or rather: the silence and space to re-experience the whole thing. After that, a shower and the opportunity to spend the rest of the night delving into my interest for certain chemical elements (see on the left) with a lovely lady (who is my wife of course!). best, bert

Orange Bass Terror replacement - recommendations, please
BassTractor replied to Jacqueslemac's topic in Amps and Cabs
Complicated question, seeing the range of amps you mention. The ones I know or know a little: Little Bastard 30: Admittedly has 30 valve watts, but still only 30 watts - not 500. Can you live with that? IMHO it's a far more refined amp than the Terror Bass (I have both), and once you know the EQ, it's versatile. Where the OTB is a rocker, to me the LB is more of an Eric Clapton, if you get my drift. MAG 300: from comments here, apparently a little marmite (veggiemite?), but if you're willing to dial, it has a good EQ where the sweeps are very important. Not a stand-out amp in my book, but will get the job done in many different styles. Apparently must not be combined with the MAG 410. Compressor usable - not more. SubOctave usable only on long, long tones. BH500: well-sounding but maybe slightly anonymous. Very versatile. IMHO a great SpectraComp compressor and great ValveTone. I'll probably get one in addition to the others, just for the heckfun of it. All the others seem to come highly regarded, but I haven't tried them. Good luck! best, bert -
Now I'm a noob as well as an ex-keyboardist, and what follows should probably be understood in that light. To me, the whole concept of "my sound" sounds like an alien one. For me there's just a composition, and there's the sounds that fit it. That, or you just play and use your technique without being bothered, and have a great time. Mind you, I'm not criticising the search, but have not yet understood what drives bassists to start the search. Hoping to find out at some point in time though. best, bert

Hey Johnny, Welcome! I saw you had posted, but it's great you wrote an intro. As to your being disabled, please tell us something we don't know. Being disabled is the only way one is going to want to be a part of BC, innit. "We're all disabled. Ich bin ein Disabled." Anyway, enjoy the site. You'll probably learn even more than I've done (I need to hear the same stuff many many times). There's a lot to search for here, and people are always helpful as well. best, bert

OK, I accept your criticism as reasonable, and I apologise for my harshness. You are right I should not have concluded from one single post, but should have asked questions instead. I will try to do better, and hope we can start on a fresh page. Welcome to BC! I hope you appreciate the site, the exchange of info and the fun banter. Enjoy! best, bert
