1. Hey Alex, We don't like the way you set up your gear. Question answered? Welcome to BC! As Ste hinted on ever so subduedly, you've come to the right place. Enjoy it! best, bert
2. Then I don't practise. Gone are the days of practising/studying music for 12 hours. Nowadays I try to almost strictly do what I want to do. If I don't feel like practising, I'll read a book. If I don't feel like reading a book, I'll practise. :-) best, bert
3.
they refuse to be part of the herd and subjugate their elevated self-image.
Typically young males, and it also points towards the strong link between insecurity and progrock. Not that I don't accept it. It's part of growing up. b, b
4. Interesting questions, and a great thread! As most here, I presume, I've gone through different phases as to my fanboyism. I learned to hate fandom when suddenly a fanclub existed in my name, and that was when I was 16 or 17 and had not released anything. The 20 or so members in that club had found that it would be a great investment to have a low member number in a fanclub dedicated to someone they only presumed might get famous at one point. I tried to get them to dismantle said club, to no avail. Since then I've always said that this experience taught me everything I needed to know about fandom, and I've tried to avoid that type of attitude and behaviour. That said, I'll gladly buy more copies of a CD if I feel that that can help a band I love with spreading their music. I'll then give the extra copies to people I think might appreciate it. As to owing me something, formally, a band does not owe me a thing. That however does not exclude me from the right to have an opinion about the band's actions. These things are often not differentiated between on Internet fora, but I think it's an important distinction. Say a band has a fanatic following who'll do everything they can to support the band's artistic freedom, using enormous amounts per head on keeping the band alive and in that comfy situation whilst welcoming the band's choices of musical content. If the band then decides to use that money to make an album that is released in 100 copies only, then that is the band's perogative. Something like this happened here, and the fans dedided that no MP3s should be made available to anyone. I still retain the right to think for example that it's immoral for the band to exclude most of the fans from hearing the music, and to think this is fandom gone gaga. best, bert
5. As to Squiers, AFAIK the Affinity must be checked hands on before purchase. My local shop had a few I absolutely did not want to buy due to loose fit and other issues. The Squier Classic Vibe series OTOH is said to be riskless. I've got three of them. Two were perfect in every respect, and one just had a slight rattle from one of the intonation adjusters on the bridge - which is a detail. I've read slightly different reports on the Squier Vintage Modified series. Though they're highly regarded, some say they must be checked hands on. Yamaha BB, no matter what number it's equipped with, is a great playing classic with a great sound. Don't have one yet, but will buy gazillions of them once I grow up and become rich. Don't know the Vintage brand basses. Good luck! best, bert
6. Hey Myk, Welcome! I hope you find more of what you like here. Now, it's very nice that you play bass in CATS, but it's not enough. You also need a CAT in your avater. It's ze low, cee. Anyway, enjoy the banter! best, bert
7. Jolly good effort indeed. Shows commitment! b, b
8.
?
Ya knowe, Engligh is hart for us foriegners. I think he meant to start his own introduction topic, but did it at a random place. Welcome, Adazz! best, bert
9.
the Y cable thing doesnt work so well because the signal will flow unevenly
Will it? Do you mean that identical cabs have enough of differences in their input impedance curves, or is there something else? b, b
10. We split after 27 years, when I was only dreaming of playing the bass. Does that count? best, bert
11.
fx out into fx in will give the tone shaping of combo one into combo two though won't it?
Normally it will indeed, but Alex's idea of one ultra bassy and one sparkly doesn't seem like the best solution to me unless I'm missing something here, and he for example plays with the settings live (which could be a nice idea). At any rate, the ultra bassy one will take all the beating, so it becomes a matter of playing at low enough volume. On a slightly different note: did you deliberately opt out of a Y cable feeding two combos, Alex? b, b
12. To my noob ears this sounds as if the tuner out is a stepped up output, not a direct "copy" of what you put into the instrument input. You'd need to turn down the gain of the second one. best, bert Edit: beaten to it. I hasten to add that the pre in the first combo can drive two power stages, so you could just as well connect the effects send on the first combo with the effects return of the second if they're unused. Can't see any drawback there, but may get corrected on this.
13. Said it before, but I've always had the best contact with drummers. Then again, I'm a keyboardist, so this is probably just the ravings of a madman. I have been friends with other band members both before, while and after, but it's simply down to compatibility. best, bert
14.
I thought your track was the best of the bunch by a country mile.
Two of them. b, b
15. Hm. What brandy? Do you also have them with Cognac? I prefer Borderies! best, bert
16.
remote controlled component to attach to your rig (or within it) that can cut the power or volume of your amp
Many moons ago, I found a cheap pot motor that you could mount the (volume) pot in - space in amp permitting of course. Came with a remote, and could be bought in hobby shops. Have no idea if this stuff is still marketed, but it should not be hard to source a brand name pot motor at a higher price. best, bert
17.
People are like pickups
Yeah, and "just like a box of choc'lats" too. But that's another thread. b, b
18.
Design Tech for 3 years done my A-levels in electronics and C&G in Electrical Installations
I know that, but xilddx obviously did not know, or he would not have written that. I feel sure of the following: He did not mean it as an insult. He meant to be considerate. I guess most people understood it like that. b, b
19. Yup. Tempted right now, and with similar feelings/thoughts around it. best, bert
20.
you dont see that as CALLING ME NAMES and SLAGGING ME OFF
No, Angel. He was not calling you names. He was being considerate with your possible lack of experience in the matter. best, bert
21. This is not gonna work out, guys. We need peace restored as quickly as possible. You need a mediator. Send me all the stuff you've had dealings with, and I will sort you guys out. In the mean time remember: "he's not your enemy - just your adversary". best, bert
22. Hey Marco, Welcome to the UK - from Norway. I hope you enjoy BassChat. best, bert
23.
I probably walked in just after Spoombung had pissed him off! Lol : D
Now don't be modest! You were there 15 minutes before him! Glad we got that sorted out. best, bert
