1. I just have a slight problem with this thread and similar threads. The OP always lies about what caused the dent, and then the helpful but naive BCers omit to mention that one must remove any residue of human DNA before applying nail varnish. Hereby corrected. best, bert
2.
I hear Theseus is the man to call whenever Minotaur gives trouble
3. Jake, have you read the site's rules? You can't be selling in this segment of the site. best, bert
4. Just so it's mentioned: Is it only a hum, or is there a nosiy fan as well? Silent fans and fan regulators work wonders. Good luck! best, bert
5.
Salami lick'em
No! Strictly forbidden in Saudi, as you should know! b, b
6. Nothing. Really! Or rather: the silence and space to re-experience the whole thing. After that, a shower and the opportunity to spend the rest of the night delving into my interest for certain chemical elements (see on the left) with a lovely lady (who is my wife of course!). best, bert
7. Complicated question, seeing the range of amps you mention. The ones I know or know a little: Little Bastard 30: Admittedly has 30 valve watts, but still only 30 watts - not 500. Can you live with that? IMHO it's a far more refined amp than the Terror Bass (I have both), and once you know the EQ, it's versatile. Where the OTB is a rocker, to me the LB is more of an Eric Clapton, if you get my drift. MAG 300: from comments here, apparently a little marmite (veggiemite?), but if you're willing to dial, it has a good EQ where the sweeps are very important. Not a stand-out amp in my book, but will get the job done in many different styles. Apparently must not be combined with the MAG 410. Compressor usable - not more. SubOctave usable only on long, long tones. BH500: well-sounding but maybe slightly anonymous. Very versatile. IMHO a great SpectraComp compressor and great ValveTone. I'll probably get one in addition to the others, just for the heckfun of it. All the others seem to come highly regarded, but I haven't tried them. Good luck! best, bert
8. Now I'm a noob as well as an ex-keyboardist, and what follows should probably be understood in that light. To me, the whole concept of "my sound" sounds like an alien one. For me there's just a composition, and there's the sounds that fit it. That, or you just play and use your technique without being bothered, and have a great time. Mind you, I'm not criticising the search, but have not yet understood what drives bassists to start the search. Hoping to find out at some point in time though. best, bert
9. Hey bbrich, Welcome! Fascinating story that was, man. Enjoy BC. best, bert
10. Turning down BassTractor, Lake & Palmer. ;-) best, bert
11. Hey Johnny, Welcome! I saw you had posted, but it's great you wrote an intro. As to your being disabled, please tell us something we don't know. Being disabled is the only way one is going to want to be a part of BC, innit. "We're all disabled. Ich bin ein Disabled." Anyway, enjoy the site. You'll probably learn even more than I've done (I need to hear the same stuff many many times). There's a lot to search for here, and people are always helpful as well. best, bert
12.
Your wallet has taken a good bashing then
Actually, this one was a steal. Still not cheap of course. b, b
13. Ooow! I hate you right now! Tried to sell my car for that exact one after getting tipped on the EBMM forum, but sadly the car didn't sell. Congrats, man. I hope you'll love it. For the uninitiated, it's a 2009 lim.ed. series called Dargie Delight II, and the colour, called Caramel Apple Delight, shifts depending on the light conditions. best, bert
14.
Do you find that helps your right hand technique?
I do not understand that question - maybe because I'm a lefty. b, b
15. I only practise while watching the BBC Porn Channel. That way I'm best prepared for live gigs.
16. OK, I accept your criticism as reasonable, and I apologise for my harshness. You are right I should not have concluded from one single post, but should have asked questions instead. I will try to do better, and hope we can start on a fresh page. Welcome to BC! I hope you appreciate the site, the exchange of info and the fun banter. Enjoy! best, bert
17. Hey Alex, We don't like the way you set up your gear. Question answered? Welcome to BC! As Ste hinted on ever so subduedly, you've come to the right place. Enjoy it! best, bert

19. Then I don't practise. Gone are the days of practising/studying music for 12 hours. Nowadays I try to almost strictly do what I want to do. If I don't feel like practising, I'll read a book. If I don't feel like reading a book, I'll practise. :-) best, bert
20.
they refuse to be part of the herd and subjugate their elevated self-image.
Typically young males, and it also points towards the strong link between insecurity and progrock. Not that I don't accept it. It's part of growing up. b, b
21. Interesting questions, and a great thread! As most here, I presume, I've gone through different phases as to my fanboyism. I learned to hate fandom when suddenly a fanclub existed in my name, and that was when I was 16 or 17 and had not released anything. The 20 or so members in that club had found that it would be a great investment to have a low member number in a fanclub dedicated to someone they only presumed might get famous at one point. I tried to get them to dismantle said club, to no avail. Since then I've always said that this experience taught me everything I needed to know about fandom, and I've tried to avoid that type of attitude and behaviour. That said, I'll gladly buy more copies of a CD if I feel that that can help a band I love with spreading their music. I'll then give the extra copies to people I think might appreciate it. As to owing me something, formally, a band does not owe me a thing. That however does not exclude me from the right to have an opinion about the band's actions. These things are often not differentiated between on Internet fora, but I think it's an important distinction. Say a band has a fanatic following who'll do everything they can to support the band's artistic freedom, using enormous amounts per head on keeping the band alive and in that comfy situation whilst welcoming the band's choices of musical content. If the band then decides to use that money to make an album that is released in 100 copies only, then that is the band's perogative. Something like this happened here, and the fans dedided that no MP3s should be made available to anyone. I still retain the right to think for example that it's immoral for the band to exclude most of the fans from hearing the music, and to think this is fandom gone gaga. best, bert
22. As to Squiers, AFAIK the Affinity must be checked hands on before purchase. My local shop had a few I absolutely did not want to buy due to loose fit and other issues. The Squier Classic Vibe series OTOH is said to be riskless. I've got three of them. Two were perfect in every respect, and one just had a slight rattle from one of the intonation adjusters on the bridge - which is a detail. I've read slightly different reports on the Squier Vintage Modified series. Though they're highly regarded, some say they must be checked hands on. Yamaha BB, no matter what number it's equipped with, is a great playing classic with a great sound. Don't have one yet, but will buy gazillions of them once I grow up and become rich. Don't know the Vintage brand basses. Good luck! best, bert
23. Hey Myk, Welcome! I hope you find more of what you like here. Now, it's very nice that you play bass in CATS, but it's not enough. You also need a CAT in your avater. It's ze low, cee. Anyway, enjoy the banter! best, bert
24. Jolly good effort indeed. Shows commitment! b, b
