1.
Lol. I can't stand the piss people try to pass off as beer. Someone called me a hipster for drinking IPA. If that is the case, I'm a hipster. But I doubt it, I don't drink it ironically.
LOL. Great post. Hipster, eh? How do they even manage to invent so much tripe. Me, I love IPA. Can't find too many of them locally though, but do find enough types of Nøgne Ø and enough Belgian ales like Westmalle Tripel. Yummy. Spike, don't be like some Dutch friends of mine who, whilst staying with us in the extreme South, opened the map one morning, and proclaimed they'd have a day trip to Narvik by car that day. b, b
2.
Why would I drink Mack beer when I can drink Nøgne Ø?
Magne, it's official: I love you. b, b
3.
Err, well I was pissed enough to accidentally create two introduction threads 4 days apart :/
LOL. Recognised your name, but am ashamed to say I didn't even remember it was from an intro thread - whilst not having touched a drop for many days! Bloody fantastic! b, b
4. Nah. More a fan of weird greens, I gather. Right now working on my poopoo picture pickguard for a white Bongo. It'll be ace, I tells ya! But seriously, I know zilch, but do try to buy what takes me fancy. They're said to be fantastic basses, and I love their design. Bought one SH and loved everything about it, especially ergonomics and the 4EQ, so bought some more. You seem to have three great basses. Are they comparable, you'd say? b, b
5.
I have no idea what that means but it sounds rude
Of course it's rude. It's Norse. It can however also be desperation, like when he talks about his stock of Mack beer. b, b Edit: rats; they beat me to it.
6. Samme her de siste to årene. Rett fra vinter til sommer. Vitenskapen mener visst det er en sjanse for at det vil bli sånn mye oftere, også her nede. Fæ'vennen er full av det. b, b
7. Hey John, Welcome from another noob. You came to a really informative site. Lost of stuff to read, and lots of people to answer your question, or to guide you towards the right gear to fit your needs. A good way from being able to play in a band? Bollocks! You like jazz, don't you? Just join AMM or Evan Parker, and you'll be alright. Enjoy the site! best, bert
8. Hey Adji, Welcome! Sad to see you're in South-East Wales. The contingent from there will soon take over the world ... ... and BassChat soon after that. Good you at least have exquisite taste in stringed instruments. Is it Sterling Silver? Not Egyptian Smoke, I presume. (mine are Dargie Delights I and II, and Sapphire Black) Anyway, have a great time here. best, bert
9. Hallå harsta'gøtten! Velkomm til BC. Mine Nårsk ær nått så bra såm jur Engelsk, menn jai hoppast du will trivast hær ( ... og nå får vi se åssen disse folka greier seg med gogel trens let. ). Velkommen fra den andre sida! Våren bryter såvidt gjennom her. Og der? I hope you'll thrive here. As a wise man said before me: they're (Generally) lovely people. Dunno about many Norse folks here, but I know of several foreigners living in Norway - like myself. Anyway, do partake in the fun. Don' be no stranger now. best, bert
10.
Start off with lots of money......!
Perfec
11.
Hope he reads this and sees the damage he has done to his own company.
Hm. Not so sure about that. He's fully aware, and possibly has a team of people calculating the pros and cons. b, b
12. Not on bass, but maybe still relevant: - depping in all kinds of music, and on different instruments - teaching - steady money but it takes a lot of time away from playing, so it's a mixed bag - depping in all kinds of music, and on different instruments - playing in church every sunday plus weddings and funerals - depping some more None of those would give an income alone, but together they made me survive. Never made income type money playing with a band or playing my own music, and all proceeds from radio and tv were regarded as accidental extras that would get me an LP or two. best, bert
13. Full ban indeed. Never ever allow bullies to decide the course through threatening, manipulating and other general bullying. (BTW, it shouldn't matter what occupation the bully has... There's quite some irony to be found when comparing different BC threads, and some people's different attitudes.) Anyway, I hereby officially pledge my pecuniar contribution to a legal fund - should a fund be started. best, bert Edit: I've written it before, but I do support copyright protection, and would normally not buy a R*r copy. However, JH needs to learn to attack peers - not everyday Janes and Joes. Buying a R*r now is out of the question.
14. I dep for Inti. Lotsa dough. best, bert
15.
That's the spirit!
Bah! Young whippersnapper knowitall. You should respect the elderly, lad! b, b
16. Silly man. You can't learn from everyone! Most of us are dim suckers. Nice and amiable, but dumb. Welcome, Jim. Enjoy the site. best, bert
17. Hey Bjelkeman, Welcome to pratabass.co.uk! I'm sure you'll thrive here, but remember BC is GAS inducing to the n[sup]th[/sup] degree.
There is a real dearth of bass players in Stockholm apparently.
May be, but on the positive side, the few that are there are the best ever, and BC is proud to be acquainted to one besides your good self. (inside joke. sorry) Anyway, enjoy the site, its banter and its occasional exchange of info. best, bert
18.
bass, amp, strings
Welcome, mate, but I did not understand those words. Somehow the words did remind me of something I recognise, but I couldn't get it to fit. Maybe you can? I was thinking of "Shitloads of basses, shitloads of pedals, shitloads of heads and shitloads of cabs". Probably not related in any way though. Anyway, enjoy the site! best, bert
19.
hi-fi amps (mostly solid-state) always seemed to state that they should not be operated without speakers connected.
Indeed, they sound better with speakers than without. Seriously though, I have not met this in my Hi-Fi years. Regular Hi-Fi amps "love" operating without speakers, as they are very lazy, and not having to deliver any Ampere is a great, relaxing state for them. best, bert
20. There's this rather firm (probably neoprene "rubber") foam that comes with glue on one side, and in different thicknesses. I don't know the brand name, and don't know how easy it is to get hold of, but PM me if you want to find a source for it. I know someone in Coylton (between Ayr and Cumnock) who probably has it, or I could send you a piece of it. best, bert
21. Bear in mind there are lots of (anti-)nodes, and during the vibrating of the string, different ones of them will be "active" / "not active" - especially during the attack phases, but not only then. As a result of this, I can't escape the feeling that some of the discussion above is missing what the alleged sweet spot is about, and is discussing with straw men. Originally, IIRC, it was never said that there's only one sweet spot, but it was said that they found a spot that served a certain purpose very well, and why it did that. If I find the article I have on it, I'll report exactly what was claimed. b, b
22.
give a whole world of different sounds and feels that inspire me to play and not always the same thing.
Synchronicity! I was just about to start a thread asking folks about that. As a keyboardist, I'd routinely choose special sounds or different instruments during preparation, to see where the differences would lead me in my playing. So I wondered if the same goes for bassists. I guess it does then. Is this playing different things an important argument for people to keep different basses? b, b
23. Demmit! "Einstein on Ice"? Whatever's wrong with "Einstein on the Beach"? It's not as if it's been done before! Oh! Seriously though, this plan might just turn out to put an undue pressure on your studies. My background is that I studied composition for many years, and from that experience, my take would be: I'd contemplate very much about what learning you can draw from each song on its own. This is the essential bit, as I think now is not the time to dream about masterpieces, but to write stuff that fits your developing as a composer. IME this developing is best served not by few elaborate works but by very varied, short and effective pieces that are set up and planned for exactly to help in that regard. Your life and your choice of course, but I've been there, dreaming about my opera masterpiece when I was 19. At any rate: good luck with whatever you choose! best, bert
24. Welcome! You a relative to Captain Fingers then? Enjoy the site! best, bert
25. You're pissed and then you introduce yourself? Well done, lad. You'll fit right in. best, bert
