1. Normally torn between four lovers, this took me quite aback, seeing as I was torn between four songs this time. I finally chose variety inside the composition above style, production and what I just liked best. Oh, and one very well cafted composition didn't get my vote, and I don't know if I even can live with myself after that. Well done folks! best, bert
 2.
Just for attending the bass show in a brown work coat (complete with biros in breast pocket), he commands my utmost respect and admiration.
You're effing nuts. This year, it's green that counts. Other than that, I love this, and it only cements my determination to order a J-Retro Deluxe from him - for the bitsa. best, bert
 3. Hey Craig, Welcome! Yup, you've come to the right place alright. Some people here know every goddemn bass that has been made or will be made in the future. Even I am impressed. Ask on the Bass Guitars and Amps And Cabs forums, coz not everyone will read the introductions. Enjoy being with some loons here! best, bert .
 4. Skinny: 1) Read Mr. Foxen's answer five times 2) Take the 212 if it sounds good or loud. Take the 410 if that one sounds good or loud. 3) EQ down the bass frequencies. 4) Success! There may also be (considerable) differences in the cabs' efficiency, and you might find the 410 is louder. The 212 has less cone surface, and would need larger excursion. Chances are it's less efficient. Can't know this though. Another thing is the difference between 250W and 500W is not that much Also, it's unclear whether the amp's specification says it gives 250W into 4 Ohm. OK if you know this, but if not, it might just be more. Not that it would play an important role though. Edit: I seem to have deleted an important aspect: Your punch through in the mix is in your overtones. The human ear can "hear" the fundamental even if it's EQ'ed out. The fundamental needs way more excursion and thus Wattage than the overtones. So it's a good idea to EQ down the lowest frequencies when in a situation like this. I'd rather do that than to combine two unknown cabs. best, bert
 5.
We obviously have great taste! When did you order your cabs?
Of course we have. :-) I ordered January 2nd or so. However, I've asked Alex to postpone, due to family stuff, so I can't be sure about the delivery time. My guess is some ten weeks or so. best, bert
 6.
Try for an H.
Will do. Thanks for the tip!
I used to have an Acorn Electron. I am a child of the 70's. I liked basic, Assembler put me off coding for life.
Electron! Cool. I liked those. Even had some functionality the BBC lacked. Sprites, maybe. Don' remembah. No assembler, no Orange, so be careful. This is a mire you're stepping into. ;-) best, bert
 7.
I was a 1990s child, so I had a commodore 64! peak and poked the s**t out it hahaha Third note?
Yes! Peak and Poke. Typical Commodore stuff. Don't even remember how we did that on the BBC, but I remember we made orange in a certain spot by alternating between two whole screen memories - one with yellow at that spot and the other with red. Great days. Third note: yes! I can do the low E and surprisingly also a Bb. Have no idea yet about what next note to go for. best, bert
 8.
Very good post
+2
 9. Hey 64k, Welcome to BC. No worries about your abilities. I've been "playing" for 17 months now and am working on my third note. You're OK. There's a lot to learn here, and a lot of friendliness and bad humour. Enjoy it! BTW, you're lucky! I had only 32k in my BBC. best, bert
 10.
Your all wrong, it's our fault all along apparently
Hehehe. Luverly.
 11.
It's probably linked to tides or some similar sh*t.
Unbelievable! Have you forgotten all about biorhythms, man? ;-) Seriously though, I can recognise this, and from my personal experience can only say that the level of the "highs" as well as the level of the "lows" seem to rise over time, and that the frequency at which these "lows" appear goes down over time as well. Dunno your age or experience, but hope this is the case for you as well. As to frustrations: none as a bassist - other than lack of practising. best, bert
 12. Another observation, made by a noob, mind: I found the Ashdown Mag 300 EVO II paired with the MAG 410 to sound woolly and "characterless", and after some time decided it sounded indifferent. The EQ needed quite some know turning, but did have good possibilities. The Little Bastard on the other hand, does not sound woolly to me through a pair of LB-112 cabs. Defined, but with a clearly rounded top without it getting dull. The EQ section's switches are quite good for defining a sound type. Both Ashdowns from the same era. While I dislike one, I love the other. BTW, had them both at the same time, and played an eclectic range of basses through them. More experienced people may disagree. best, bert
 13. . Now that was great. Congrats! Have no idea who Juicy Lucy are, but I understand it's not just another band. Well done, sir! Good luck with this. best, bert
 14. That wouldn't have been me, but I love this thread. best, bert
 15.
Sounds great unplugged though.
Use your brain. Do NOT plug it in when the lead arrives. Never change a winning team, y'know. Congrats! This starts to look wonderful indeed. b, b
 16. Hey Rob, Welcome to the surface of the non-Marketplace waters! best, bert
 17. . Good mourning! I shall say zis only whence: Welcome to BC, from another dino. Opinions, eh? Hm... Enjoy the site! best, bert
 18.
Admittedly it`s with electric bass, not a double bass,
No worries. Bob asked:
and wonder if something like this would be ok for bass guitar.
Easily overlooked, and I had to read several times myself. best, bert
 19. Yeah! Howdoo from sunny Soegne, just down the road 'n' up the swim in Southern Norway. Dress well, though. :-) Enjoy the site, and learn like I do. best, bert
 20. Hey Dan, Welcome from a noob. So you're a Thumboloid and a Bongoloid like me, and even have a Compact and Midget on order like me. I think we got separated right after the Caesarean, bro'! (Have yet to order a Thumb, but it IS in the plans) People will be lining up in queues to help you, but the trick is to ask good questions in the right section of BC. Not everyone reads here. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 21. Hi Stratro, Welcome to BC! I hope you enjoy the site, and share some wisdom. best, bert
 22. Damn you! That's the second time in a year I must sharpen my brain and welcome you! You're no fun anymore! OK, I'll be sparesome then: WLCM BCK! best, bert
 23.
Phil Jones amplification gets a lot of love from DB players.
+1. Phil's brother Gareth just might be on BC, so in case, you could ask him! b, b
 24. There are so many combos out there, that we should start narrowing it down. So: budget? weight? tone and/or music style? As an example, here's a tiny MarkBass combo with 8" speaker, CD input and headphones output: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_micromark_801.htm Small speaker size IME generally makes for a very punchy tone, due to the demand for a lot of excursion of the tiny cone. I'd be careful with 8", and not buy untested. MarkBass for example also do a still compact combo with 12" speaker that I'd buy unseen: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_mini_cmd_121p_lm3.htm I thought they did a 10" combo as well, but can't remember right now. The wattage needed depends most on how much of the very low frequencies you want and on how effective the driver is. Physics have decided that running two speakers with less cone excursion each is a more effective way of doing it, and that way one could get a whole lot of noise out of a 50 W tube amp. Anyway, tell us some more, and we're on your case. best, bert
