1. Hey Dan, Welcome from a noob. So you're a Thumboloid and a Bongoloid like me, and even have a Compact and Midget on order like me. I think we got separated right after the Caesarean, bro'! (Have yet to order a Thumb, but it IS in the plans) People will be lining up in queues to help you, but the trick is to ask good questions in the right section of BC. Not everyone reads here. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 2. Hi Stratro, Welcome to BC! I hope you enjoy the site, and share some wisdom. best, bert
 3. Damn you! That's the second time in a year I must sharpen my brain and welcome you! You're no fun anymore! OK, I'll be sparesome then: WLCM BCK! best, bert
 4.
Phil Jones amplification gets a lot of love from DB players.
+1. Phil's brother Gareth just might be on BC, so in case, you could ask him! b, b
 5. There are so many combos out there, that we should start narrowing it down. So: budget? weight? tone and/or music style? As an example, here's a tiny MarkBass combo with 8" speaker, CD input and headphones output: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_micromark_801.htm Small speaker size IME generally makes for a very punchy tone, due to the demand for a lot of excursion of the tiny cone. I'd be careful with 8", and not buy untested. MarkBass for example also do a still compact combo with 12" speaker that I'd buy unseen: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_mini_cmd_121p_lm3.htm I thought they did a 10" combo as well, but can't remember right now. The wattage needed depends most on how much of the very low frequencies you want and on how effective the driver is. Physics have decided that running two speakers with less cone excursion each is a more effective way of doing it, and that way one could get a whole lot of noise out of a 50 W tube amp. Anyway, tell us some more, and we're on your case. best, bert
 6.
£4
She made you say that? Be careful, Wayne. Be very careful! best, bert
 7. Yup. On a thin person, the reach is very long. One might not wish to modify an original XL2, but personally, I'd just mount an alu rail on body or pivot flipper, with two screws, making a top horn. best, bert
 8.
Has anyone gone from a clan to 1?
Not yet, at any rate. I might or I might not, depending on finance and desire, and I don't care one bit if I end up with one bass or fifty basses, as long as I follow my path where it leads me. best, bert
 9.
in order to comply we would be removing all references to Rickenbacker from the site permanently.
So very much this. This is the way to deal with it. best, bert
 10. In case, I think such a sticky must have been removed more than a year ago. There still is a sticky about plane travels though (may that's the one you think of?), and we've had several threads about shipping company recommendations during the last year. I tried a seach in General Discussion, and got many threads, but did not find the huge thread I was looking for. Maybe your searches are better. FWiW, my own experiences with UPS, USPS and FedEx have been flawless. best, bert
 11.
I played my first E# a few weeks ago, I started a thread about it!
You bragging loser! It's already months ago I mentioned I could play both the E and the Bb. I think you'll find that's slightly more impressive. best, bert
 12.
In fairness to Monckyman, he has posted a lot of really valuable information about PAs and sound mixing into this forum, and I for one have found it most helpful and edifying. Hopefully the 'rethink' will include sticking around and contributing once more.
I certainly agree with that hope, and do agree that his contribution is an important one. best, bert
 13. Right. You've written 1355 posts since April 5th, 2011, and you're complaining about a £20 (alternatively £7 for one ad, or nothing for an item below £50) to keep an expensive site up and running? Has the site not given you anything during those years? Were your 1355 posts there just for helping BC to attain a higher level of readworthiness? I think you have some rethinking to do. best, bert
 14.
I saw your avater tractor less the other day!!!
(You saw my deputy star then? I was mighty proud of that star.) b, b
 15.
Weirder than that, it is B. Somewhere European, and there is still a B. Bach used it at one point as a signature inside the music (or so i read, may be apocryphal)
Germany and Norway at least, probably more countries as well. Yes, Bach did that quite a lot, part of this signature being that the four notes formed a cross, thus not only denoting Bach's faith, but this theme and this cross were also used in Bach's music about Jesus' sufferings on the cross. If the lyrics for example have the word "Leiden" (suffering), you can bet that this cross is found in the melody. [/BachChat] As to the history of H and B, for those interested, and in simplified form: IMS, some time in the late Middle Ages, the first "black key" note to be written down was a Bb, and it was written/drawn as a rounded B note, "B rotundum" or simply "rotundum". The regular B was written/drawn as a squarish one, the "B quadratum" or simply "quadratum". Someone misread, and interpreted the square B as an H, and the round B as a B, and since some countries have had H for B and B for Bb. best, bert
 16. Hey Jonathan, Welcome to BC! I had written previously, but apparently something went wrong. Anyway, you'll find that at least some here are into experimental synth stuff. It's my background in fact, so I only find it boring when it's boring. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 17.
Saw this and thought of you, Mel,. http://www.youtube.c...d&v=iD6WEbfQuso
You're nuts! She doesn't look like that at all, and the dialect doesn't even come close. "Let's try dis babies" Seriouslt though, This looks very interesting, if maybe a bit on the short side. Thanks for posting. best, bert
 18. In my old days, the thought of a covers band was an impossible one. In my testosterone driven reality, of course one composed, played and won. Then I realised I'd done covers all the time when playing classical music. Then I'd often listen to a song and notice my desire to play that song. Then I got in a covers band. Then I had fun. Then End best, bert
 19. Thanks! Downloaded and listened. Bunch of clownwhores, eh? best, bert
 20. Hey John, Welcome back to bass, and welcome to BC. It's generally a great site, an on here, you're amongst zillions who returned to bass, so you'll get some recognising nods. Enjoy the site, and chime in when you feel the urge. Worst that can happen is we bite your head off, eh? best, bert
 21.
because phones roll
I think you owe me a keyboard and a screen, lad. best, bert [wipes to no evident avail]
 22. Hey Kristo, Thanks for a very nice read, and welcome to BC! I like your dad. ;-) Enjoy the fora! best, bert
 23.
There is some Behringer gear that is truly crap. Anyone remember the tube rack processor, where the tube didn't actually do anything and was illuminated by an LED behind it?
You really don't get it, do you? That thing is world famous for the tube lasting forever. This is quality, man! Thanks for mentioning it. I've heard about that scheme, but had no idea it was a Behringer. I'm gonna keep that story in my arsenal of fun stuff. best, bert
 24.
Turns out it was in the pocket of the hoody BENEATH my coat... oh, how we laughed
Nothing special. Here, this happened all day - until the warden took all our phones.
 25. Ah! The Marshall Fridgid. I ordered one last year, but she never came. I'm expecting more from my BF Midget. best, bert
