Top Guitar Makers Try to Save the Acoustic Guitar
BassTractor replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Very good post
+2 -
Hey 64k, Welcome to BC. No worries about your abilities. I've been "playing" for 17 months now and am working on my third note. You're OK. There's a lot to learn here, and a lot of friendliness and bad humour. Enjoy it! BTW, you're lucky! I had only 32k in my BBC. best, bert
It's probably linked to tides or some similar sh*t.
Unbelievable! Have you forgotten all about biorhythms, man? ;-) Seriously though, I can recognise this, and from my personal experience can only say that the level of the "highs" as well as the level of the "lows" seem to rise over time, and that the frequency at which these "lows" appear goes down over time as well. Dunno your age or experience, but hope this is the case for you as well. As to frustrations: none as a bassist - other than lack of practising. best, bert

Another observation, made by a noob, mind: I found the Ashdown Mag 300 EVO II paired with the MAG 410 to sound woolly and "characterless", and after some time decided it sounded indifferent. The EQ needed quite some know turning, but did have good possibilities. The Little Bastard on the other hand, does not sound woolly to me through a pair of LB-112 cabs. Defined, but with a clearly rounded top without it getting dull. The EQ section's switches are quite good for defining a sound type. Both Ashdowns from the same era. While I dislike one, I love the other. BTW, had them both at the same time, and played an eclectic range of basses through them. More experienced people may disagree. best, bert

. Now that was great. Congrats! Have no idea who Juicy Lucy are, but I understand it's not just another band. Well done, sir! Good luck with this. best, bert

That wouldn't have been me, but I love this thread. best, bert

Hi from an old git with teenage pretensions
BassTractor replied to great harry's topic in Introductions
Sounds great unplugged though.
Use your brain. Do NOT plug it in when the lead arrives. Never change a winning team, y'know. Congrats! This starts to look wonderful indeed. b, b -
Hey Rob, Welcome to the surface of the non-Marketplace waters! best, bert
Admittedly it`s with electric bass, not a double bass,
No worries. Bob asked:
and wonder if something like this would be ok for bass guitar.
Easily overlooked, and I had to read several times myself. best, bert

Yeah! Howdoo from sunny Soegne, just down the road 'n' up the swim in Southern Norway. Dress well, though. :-) Enjoy the site, and learn like I do. best, bert

Hey Dan, Welcome from a noob. So you're a Thumboloid and a Bongoloid like me, and even have a Compact and Midget on order like me. I think we got separated right after the Caesarean, bro'! (Have yet to order a Thumb, but it IS in the plans) People will be lining up in queues to help you, but the trick is to ask good questions in the right section of BC. Not everyone reads here. Enjoy the site! best, bert

Hi Stratro, Welcome to BC! I hope you enjoy the site, and share some wisdom. best, bert
Phil Jones amplification gets a lot of love from DB players.
+1. Phil's brother Gareth just might be on BC, so in case, you could ask him! b, b

There are so many combos out there, that we should start narrowing it down. So: budget? weight? tone and/or music style? As an example, here's a tiny MarkBass combo with 8" speaker, CD input and headphones output: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_micromark_801.htm Small speaker size IME generally makes for a very punchy tone, due to the demand for a lot of excursion of the tiny cone. I'd be careful with 8", and not buy untested. MarkBass for example also do a still compact combo with 12" speaker that I'd buy unseen: http://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_mini_cmd_121p_lm3.htm I thought they did a 10" combo as well, but can't remember right now. The wattage needed depends most on how much of the very low frequencies you want and on how effective the driver is. Physics have decided that running two speakers with less cone excursion each is a more effective way of doing it, and that way one could get a whole lot of noise out of a 50 W tube amp. Anyway, tell us some more, and we're on your case. best, bert
£4
She made you say that? Be careful, Wayne. Be very careful! best, bert

Yup. On a thin person, the reach is very long. One might not wish to modify an original XL2, but personally, I'd just mount an alu rail on body or pivot flipper, with two screws, making a top horn. best, bert
Has anyone gone from a clan to 1?
Not yet, at any rate. I might or I might not, depending on finance and desire, and I don't care one bit if I end up with one bass or fifty basses, as long as I follow my path where it leads me. best, bert
in order to comply we would be removing all references to Rickenbacker from the site permanently.
So very much this. This is the way to deal with it. best, bert

Shipping company recommendations please
BassTractor replied to Alpha-Dave's topic in General Discussion
In case, I think such a sticky must have been removed more than a year ago. There still is a sticky about plane travels though (may that's the one you think of?), and we've had several threads about shipping company recommendations during the last year. I tried a seach in General Discussion, and got many threads, but did not find the huge thread I was looking for. Maybe your searches are better. FWiW, my own experiences with UPS, USPS and FedEx have been flawless. best, bert -
I played my first E# a few weeks ago, I started a thread about it!
You bragging loser! It's already months ago I mentioned I could play both the E and the Bb. I think you'll find that's slightly more impressive. best, bert
In fairness to Monckyman, he has posted a lot of really valuable information about PAs and sound mixing into this forum, and I for one have found it most helpful and edifying. Hopefully the 'rethink' will include sticking around and contributing once more.
I certainly agree with that hope, and do agree that his contribution is an important one. best, bert

Right. You've written 1355 posts since April 5th, 2011, and you're complaining about a £20 (alternatively £7 for one ad, or nothing for an item below £50) to keep an expensive site up and running? Has the site not given you anything during those years? Were your 1355 posts there just for helping BC to attain a higher level of readworthiness? I think you have some rethinking to do. best, bert
