No idea how you get the video's in.
Just put the link between the expressions "media" and "/media" - both in square brackets, though I seem to have noticed the forum software sometimes does this automatically. best, bert
This stuff will do the trick. Probably got some down your local £ shop if you want it cheaper
Yup, that's the stuff. However, do not buy from the £ shop unless you know what you're doing. Normally, non-slip mats found at £ shops are a lot stiffer and less soft in their material. One can feel the difference easily when one has both to compare. Life expectancy is also lower, as these will more readily tear up. best, bert

Hey Nuno, The link is a generic one. You might be able to edit it. best, bert -
Definitely not start with theory. Theory is best digested when it has become the confirmation of what your ears already know. In your case (no money) I'd second the idea of youtoob lessons. There are lots of threads here pointing out the good ones. In addition to that I'd noobly say it would be good if you could get a free lesson from someone somewhere who should put your hands on the bass in a correct manner so you avoid all kinds of possible strain damage. Me I just asked a guy who lives nearby. Also, I think it's a good idea to refrain from playing on one string only, and rather to strait away try and divide the tones over several strings. Others must chime in on how important damping is at this stage. I wouldn't know, but I've tried to - from the very start. Most important of all in my book, and I do be a certified music teacher if not a bassist yet, is to do everything very slowly. Quality is way more important than quantity, and the brain gets programmed perfectly from you doing everything in a concentrated, slow and precise fashion. The principle is simple: let the brain get used to how things are done - not to how things are not done. In this field, speed is the byproduct that comes almost for free - it is not the way. Enough from me! best, bert

Shops that sell campervans and the like will have rolls of a soft rubber mat material. These mats are normally used in the cupboards and drawers, but also on tables and other hard surfaces. This stuff is not only fantastic, but can also easily be cut in the right dimensions. best, bert

Hey Shaun, Welcome to the surface of BC! Great it has provided you with the help - of course this is an important part of why it exists. So what gear did you get then? I admit that that's a little bit curious, but hey, it's only because I'm curious. Enjoy! best, bert -
I kept my BF Compact in our trailer & being honest it couldn't take the abuse of travelling.
Thanks, Largo. It's important this stuff comes to the surface aside all the praise. (Happily for me, if I gig my BFs at all, it will be locally, and the cabs would be transported in the back seat of a luxury car.) best, bert

headless bass....I keep getting lost....am I loosing my head?
BassTractor replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Without having checked whether the frets were in the same position as with other basses, my Hohner B2B felt as if it was a lot to the left, and the end of the neck was hard to reach. Using my own [s]chest width[/s] waist width as a parameter, I got it placed more to the right by shortening the strap just five cm or so. Perfec now, and that strap is now dedicated to the B2B. I guess it ain't that easy if you're not a fat bastard. best, bert -

Hey Kevin, Welcome from another noob. You'll do alright. There's enormous amounts of searchable info on here already, and you can always start your own threads asking the questions you need answered. Me, I started one and a half year ago, and am already the best bassist in the history of mankind - thanks to BC. Anyway, mix and mingle, and enjoy the banter. best, bert

Hey Cedric, Welcome! Nope, it's not .UK only - as you've already gathered. I'm sure you'll learn as much on BC as I do - probably more, seeing as you're quite active on the bass front. Enjoy the site! best, bert
It is not too many watts that does nasty things to cabs, it is too few being driven into distortion. I used to drive an NV610 with an 800w amp for many happy hours.
That's basically true, but it depends on the clipping and on the cab. Normally, clipping indeed creates a lot of extra amplitude in the high frequency area. Push that signal through a tweeter that is not designed to take it, and the tweeter may be ruined. However, many amps have circuits to prevent this standard clipping, and many cabs lack the tweeter. Without knowing this, I can also imagine cabs which have protective circuits or have tweeters that can handle the extra highs. best, bert

Thanks, guys! It's fully clear now, and also explains why I would find both "ground lift" and "ground/lift". b, b
Think its switching between grounded, and having the ground connection lifted (so not on the ground any more).
Thanks! Language barrier is kicking in though, but allow me to try: So if I get this right, "lifted" means you're simply disconnecting the grounding? I'd have expected something more advanced. best, bert

You decide. It's your bass. But since you chose to ask the question: I'd not sell it on with that decal still present. My bitsa Jazz is gonna be called a Finder Jazz Bitsa, thus clearly showing what it is, whilst retaining the capitals F, J and B. best, bert
don't take the pee
then:
take the pee
We're sick and tired of people sending out mixed messages and putting us in a double bind position, but we'd never take the pee! Welcome, Pat, to the wonderful world that sometimes is BassChat. I'm sure you'll thrive here. There's all types of bassists, guitarists and drummers on here, and some would probably be much into experimental stuff. I know I am, but then again I've not yet climbed to the level of being a bassist. Anyway, enjoy the info, the quite often polite debate, and the banter! best, bert
