1. IME, the trouble with giving band members the right to block songs has been that there's always one who'll block enormous amounts. Quarrels ensue, and people leave or are thrown out. I'd like to try to have a rule about blocking no more than a certain amount or percentage or something - not that I've thought through this idea. If it were up to me personally, any person who blocks or tries to block enormous amounts of songs just doesn't belong in that particular band, or is a jerk, and thus out. As mentioned previously, of course all of this has to play out before gigging. Member-walking-out-in-protest seems like a sure sign that something is very wrong with the band or that individual. best, bert
 2.
<2p> Save your money and buy some new strings - that will do more for your sound than any fx pedal. </2p>
Stable tip: fx pedals need batteries! I'll get me waistcoat. best, bert
 3.
Also I'm clumsy so I don't have to worry about tripping on them.
Not very clumsy then. best, bert
 4. "Flabbergasted" seems like the appropriate word here. best, bert
 5.
I always struggle when I hear grown men/women say phrases like "I'm allowed....."
Yeah, I can see that, and must say I struggle too when hearing mates talk like that (I've noticed most of me mates talk just like that). However, isn't this usually a condensed way of expressing oneself without going into details about the relationship? I don't know, but I kinda hope it is. best, bert
 6. This thread, especially the latest posts, reminded me of an article I read about leftie/rightie kayaking paddles, and I'd guess the same goes for stringed instruments: Most people can easily adapt to using either right- or left-handed paddles no matter their own leftiness of rightiness. However, som two percent of the population were said to need a certain paddle, and the choice of paddle was not statistically related to their being a leftie or righty. As said, I think something similar goes for stringed instruments. Me, I can hardly turn a key with my right hand, and must throw balls with my left hand, but I also must shoot with right-handed guns, and play right-handed basses. best, bert
 7.
As of today I'm now 2x 2x12
Aaaaaw! Congrats, man. Are these the DBs with the rock tone? How's it sound with the GK? Hard Rockin' perhaps? (BTW, I like the bass mucho too. KingBass? In case, which one?) best, bert
 8.
I guess my spare cash would be better spent on lessons.
Be careful with the reasonability now! Before you know it, you'll get a rash that will quickly develop into LAS. Again: be careful! BTW, thanks to both you and Iana for some great posts. I learned stuff. best, bert
 9. Hi Mike, Welcome, man! I'm sure you'll thrive in our midst. Sounds like it at any rate. You own or have owned quite some nice basses, I must say. Please tell about the SR506 - I can't remember any words about them. Have you compared it to the 300s and 700s? Nice to see you build basses too. I'm currently building a body to put bought hardware and neck on, but I'm sure to fail. Hey, I might buy You're Next build then! Anyway, enjoy the forums, fora and forii, and don' be no stranger. best, bert
 10. Hey Ian, Welcome to BC. Nice intro you wrote, and I guess some people will recognise aspects of this. Me, I just started on bass after a long life as d.i.c.k. (dick in charge of keyboards) (I believe it's actually Dork, but hey) Anyway, continue enjoying the thing, and don't be a stranger. BTW, you should hear Leen's band. Great brass arrangements. best, bert
 11. Hey Geoff, Welcome to BC. Be glad you found us. Occasionally it's even fun to be here, yes sir! You taught me that H&K even made bass amps, so thanks for that. From my synth days, I love a little light in the night. You must be very excited waiting for the Spector. Please update us when you've played it, I'm sure many will want to read about it. Enjoy the site!
what lovely cows you have over there
What's happening, Steve? Went you from meeces to catzes and so directly intwo cowses? Weren't you intwo sheepses at all then? best, bert
 12. You do that, but maybe don't do it in Off Topic. This is music gear related, and can be put several places, one of them being the much used General Discussion (which is for music related stuff that finds no place in the special sections). You decide, of course. best, bert
 13. Hey Andy (I presume), Welcome! Don't know the Deacon, but often, three knobs means (from neck to ... er ... the other end) Volume one pickup / Volume other pickup / Tone or Volume / Balance between pickups / Tone Some turning and listening should now make this conclusive. Strings come with a plethora of choices, and people are oft very attached to a certain sound and/or feel. I think the best you do now is browse through the categories on the site, and read some of the threads about strings, so you get an idea. Questions are of course welcome whilst you try and divulge the info. Enjoy the info, the discussion and the banter. best, bert
 14. Hey Left Foot, Welcome! Table top drone, eh? Cool! If you haven't yet, you might just like to hear "To You" by Dutch composer Peter Schat. It starts out with possibly alienating parts, but develops more and more into rockin' post-modern art. Anyway, enjoy the site. best, bert
 15.
I have the next issue & will check ASAP when I get home and let you all know if they indeed confirm his name. Top tip, thanks.
Er ... make that the two or three next issues ... (if one goes wtf: this relates to another thread about another mag.) best, bert
 16.
I can see why you’re jittery though. Roger’s done the right thing and employed you to OK the technical performance of the speaker and you messed up. In theory you are now liable for the cost of recalling and modifying all the Baer speakers in the field to meet the published spec. Nice one!
Hm. How do you yourself rate your above behaviour as compared to the Roger Baer behaviour that you criticised so vocally?
 17.
Any suggestions for earphones that are a bit more robust? Or some way to stop this happening?
Dunno about glueing the Q on this thread. Seeing as this thread probably is seen as in its last hours and soon to die, a new thread might give you more response. Anyway, I think this: It's all as you describe and, very roughly and IMhO only, the main culprit is the length of the plug's bend protection (dunno the word, but you get the gist). The more advanced and longer, the better it will take care of this, effectively augmenting the bend's radius and thus reducing the "metal fatigue" effect. But you knew that. So to stop this happening, you could change the protector with, for example, fluid rubber or carefully cut and applied bits of tape, avoiding any abrupt strength changes in your solution's construction. IME, Sennheisers have got this aspect covered, but admittedly at a higher price. My cheapest was £99, and I don't think I could say it lasts 3 to 5 times longer. Best one in my "collection" is a very expensive Shure that has served me almost daily for seven years now, whereas a cheap Logitech with less use and only at home, gave up after half a year.
Dog the Bounty hunter wears them.
You just cost me £250, mate! best, bert
 18.
OK, thanks guys.
Waidaminnet! It was meant in a figurative manner. NOone actually indicated you have some! Blimey! [s]balls[/s] best, bert
 19. Hey Jim, Welcome to BC, where all the awesome, positive people are waiting for you to hang out with them! Sadly, no-one here understands the question, except me. But if you ask it again, ask about people's favourite bass, and you'll be alright. (Seriously though, as not everyone reads the Introductions, you might wanna ask in the Gear -> Basses forum as well.) I can answer though: I have no favourite bass, and there is no sentimentality about basses. To me, they're mere tools. Like with any other tool, I worship them and make love to them, but that's about it, really. Sorry to be a bore. OK, just forget about me, and start enjoying the rest of the site. best, bert
 20. Hey Deejayen, Welcome! You're sure to get loads of good advice here. Be forewarned though: I was a keyboardist who wanted to put down some bass lines on home recordings. Once. .... This site is vast, and there are loads of searchable topics about advice about first basses - especially in the General Discussion section. You can also start a thread with info about your budget and other things. People are gonna respond helpfully. Good luck with your quest! best, bert
 21. Don't know the ABM 500, but to nooby me, the VU meter on my MAG 300 evo II seemed to work very well, whilst the one on my Little Bastard seems like a gimmick indeed ("Play louder to get the needle to move to the right" -"Well, thank you! That seems like a nice game! I'll sell my Xbox!") Of course, this could be the second time in my life I was wrong about something. If the ABM has the same VU in the same position in the signal chain as on the MAG 300, then it should be able to tell you when you're close to overdrive the pre amp tubes. best, bert
 22. Living in the Past - Jethro Tull as well as a few others I seem reluctant to remember right now.
 23.
It put me in mind of a chap that I once met in Holland in 1974... [...] He looked at us as if, somehow, a point had been made.
I could explain, but sadly we're not allowed until 40 years have gone by. Just remind me next year. dutchbest, dutchbert
 24. Hey Bret, Welcome to BC, and congrats with your beautiful, almos' perfec' name! You're in, of course, after that great introduction, and right now, there are only two formalities left: 1) We need to know more about the Dillion bass 2) We need to know more about the helmet After those things are dealt with, you're fully fledged. Anyway, enjoy the site, the info, the discussion and the banter! best, bert
 25. IME, wearing a headband or Buff Headwear like thingy is all that's needed to keep the in-ear earphones inside. If not, a flake of soft foam will help tremendously. I've also had a headband with built-in, watertight earphones, but can't remember the brand name. Not very Hi-Fi, but worked very well. best, bert
