You ask me this at 10:10PM while I have a cold and a headache? Is that logical? My immediate thought was some Bach fugues, because the bass lines are so incredibly suggestive that one could hear the whole piece in one's head. Then I realised you may not be that filled to the rim with Bach music. How about listening to a fugue on YT and play the bass line to it once you know the piece fairly well? In case, just about any organ fuge should do, depending on your chops. I have a nice, specific one in my head, in d minor IMS, but can't remember the Bach Werke number to it. I'll try and find it, and will report back. Next, and simple or demanding depending on choice: the Tenor parts in some Renaissance songs - "Tenor" here not being the high-pitched male voice, but the main and bearing part - most oftenly sung by a tenor indeed. For an example, I direct you to one of the songs form "Scherzi Musicali" (sp?) by Italian master Claudio Monteverdi. A great one (to play at least) of those is called "Non cosi tosto" or similar. Now that is perfect Renaissance music, and not even his best. Its "cello" part should be luverly as well, btw. Next, and normally considerably more demanding: the cello parts from Beethoven's late string quartets. This is unbelievable stuff. I'm sure a Google search will direct you quickly, coz my brain seems not capable now to remember which one would be cool. Agh, what do I care. Just go home with all your questions. Bah! sniff, bert
So you're not The Walrus or Dr. Robert then? Oh dear, Ho Hum..........slumps away , head down, disappointed but mightily impressed at Bert's English, openess and great humour .
Sorry, mate. I am merely a walrus, and threw away my plans of changing the name to Robert years ... no, decades ago. You won't be as impressed anymore when I've told you there's two "n"s in "openness", your stupid grammar nazi victim! best, bert
Why are you called Bass Tractor? Are basses and tractors your thing? Do you play bass while operating heavy machinery? (I hope not) Is your real name Robert, Hubert or Egbert? If English is not your first language, please may I compliment you on your incredible grasp of it; you seem to be able to express yourself, whether it be humour or viewpoint, effortlessly.
Oh ... no! Why these questions? Is this really necessary? Diverting a perfectly nice and cuddly thread to talk about moi? Wouldn't it be more fitting and appropriate were I to get my own section on BC, where we could all talk about me into the low-numbered hours - - for days, weeks ... years on end? OK then, under a lot of doubt. - The name stuck after a funny episode while I worked on an agricultural school, where I drove the biggest, fastest tractors (50km/h was fast back then). - Basses: very much so. Tractors: nope. - Nope, but the bass does hide some of it. - My real name is Bert, though you will find Albrecht in my birth certificate. My father calls me Albert. Discreet gets a fresh £4 note in the mail. I use HP, so you know it's good. - Thank you very much. However, my English is far from as good as often believed, and it's not effortlessly, but takes a lot of time and a lot of effort, and I still miss the ball a lot. I've written about the hows and whys earlier. Had my English been better, I would not have gotten in so much trouble on the Apology to Bilbo thread. I'm not being coy here, or moaning. I'm simply dead serious. Nice band, eh, The Beatles? Any stuff that you'd recommend I should start with to get to know them better? best, bert

Sooo true. Exactly why I feel a certain Fender Jazz is coming my way soon.
I made that mistake last year, I ordered a Precision from Dawson's website and the truss rod hole was rusted and rounded off
You were lucky, man! In my days, when buying a factory new bass, we'd be happy if only the paint had come off in obvious places!
It takes great skill and the guy is outstanding at it, but instead of it being a technique that is used on occasion, it BECOMES the music. It IS the music. And it's just licks. No melody, no groove, nothing of interest other than a few seconds of flash. It ultimately becomes like looking at the same magic trick over and over. There are a lot of guys doing this type of thing who can't play a blues.
I think I understand where you're coming from, but have you heard the complete songs? These snippets become insufferable indeed, but they are just snippets. The complete songs might offer more. Not saying you're wrong, mind. just asking a question. If your opinion is about the complete songs, then of course that's a different matter altogether. FWIW, if the song is well-written, these licks do not annoy me the least, nor does the exposition of flashy technique, nor does the lack of "musical" performance - within this style, I'd think that "musical" performance would be in the way, as other forces in case would drive the song, like detail changes within chords, licks and rhythms. best, bert

Hey Dave, Welcome from someone who is not from Pompey! Nice gear you got! An unnamable, a Jazz and a StingRay - now that's good in my book. Not that I know most of your pedals though, but I do be the owner of a Big Muff for four decades or so (it's not listed coz I didn't find it, and I didn't find it coz I wasn't searching, and I wasn't searching coz I got the Myrtle, see ) I see you wanna get involved. Good, good ... just you be aware we do not know the word "formerly". Don't wanna be a grammar nazi, but we simply don't like the elite out here. You just settle on "formally" now, boy. I liked the "pedal-file". Good thing you're not Irish then! Anyway, enjoy the site, its info and its banter! best, bert

My gig with Mark Knopfler... now with video!
BassTractor replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Best of luck! ... even if I myself could've done it better - without any rehearsing - had I only had the talent and put in the hours for many decades. best, bert -
Nah! That's not a BassTractor! It's a DoubleBassTractor! A DoubleBassTractor avatar would indeed have been embarassing for a bass guitarist. LOL at a great post and a great find. My original avatar was another BassTractor, a Case IIRC, but then one of the central people on BC required that all avatars contain a CAT, so I had to comply. I did manage to check out some of one of his bands. Sounded much intriguing, but the headphones I wore may have been not good enough. Will return, and hope they also have songs without the growl singing dominating so much. BTW, isn't that bog seat of ours a MöNSTëR? best, bert
then commenting on my circular breathing, not too subtly insinuating that it might come in handy in a more .. ahem... intimate setting!
Sorry, RR, but not all of us are as erudite as you. Could you please explain in more detail what you are in fact alluding to here? It boggles the mind. On another note, just like your genius sig, it again confirms my thesis on how people can be classy without class. Oh, and pics, please! best, bert

Hey Tricycle, Welcome! What a lovely first post you wrote. It seems you're more than housewarm already. Sad to see though that you had to turn your eyes to hugely, massively popular pop artists' album titles to find a moniker, though I guess it's better than "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Wouldn't that trike thing in the pic make for a nice avatar? No pressure! Just DO IT! Anyway, Enjoy the site! best, bert

Hey Andrew, Welcome! Stereo, eh? Like they say we'll soon get on those Long Play vinyl records? That sounds intriguing! Yup, I'm not young. Anyway, enjoy your stay! best, bert
I generally found that people could see the quality difference between the basses, hence we sold many RBXs!
Exactly my experience as a buyer and a noob. I'd have the RBX well over the Squier Affinity. Ended up with a RockBass and three Classic Vibes, but that was not due to anything negative about the RBX. best, bert
