2.
I can't recall a time where I've ever seen anyone pulled up whilst posting something friendly or non-confrontational.
Didn't Skank teach you to put the smiley before the full stop, you stupid git? [Insert every single emoticon you feel for ... roughly ... here.] best, bert
 3. Free bump, as I've PM'ed you. b, b
 4. Hi Kate, Welcome to BC. I hope you'll thrive. Sorry, can't help with the DB question. Am a mere bass guitar noob. As to:
I think some of the skills are transferable
Yup! They are, especially the fingering if you're into atonal music with micro-intervals. Anyway, Enjoy! best, bert
 5.
Hi from another new member. Similar story but I did actually start out on bass, then on my tutors recommendations moved to guitar for many, many years (about 30) and have now finally moved back to my calling. Have been studying bass for the last two years and am really loving it. I play in a band with two 49 year old fantastic musicians and my 18 year old son who plays drums. I’m forty six and very much think of myself as the weak link. But I do own the PA! I play a Michael Tobias Design KZ4 bass, it is a wonderful instrument and very light weight. I had to replace my previous bass due to serious back problems. I am looking to replace my under powered EBS Classic 60 combo so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated although it does have to be light weight. Roj BCB (Black Country Bass)
Hey Roj, Welcome! So your tutor had faith in your brain capacity then? Nice of him, I guess, but it's great you'd finally call him out on it. Welcome back to Dumm County! In the mean time, be advised that many people won't see your introduction, as they'll have moved on from this thread. You might wanna consider making your own thread so more people can see your question. That, and/or making a thread on the Amps and Cabs forum. There's also a search function so you can read yourself up a bit before asking well aimed questions about gear that catches your eye. I assume that after 30 years of w*nking, you're a bit out of the loop - as of bass gear. First thing people will ask is what budget you have and what you want to achieve soundwise, but I guess that if you're content with the sound of your combo, that you could do with a few EBS cabs plus a Hi-Fi head. The EBS 112s do not weigh much, sound well, and there's a plethora of small, lightweight Class D heads that might do the trick together with the EBS cabs. Be aware Class D amps use smart trickery, and are not appreciated by everyone. Me, I have this rule that I'd rather walk more often between car and venue, but that every single unit must weigh a max of 20-25 kilos. Such a unit weight would give you some heavy duty amp head stuff (EBS, Genz-Benz or GLockenklang for example) and for example 2 112 cabs. There's a plethora of good other cabs besides the EBSs as well. Aguilar, Barefaced, Bergantino, Genz-Benz, Schroeder - and many more, depending on taste. You might like some of the Ashdown ranges, MarkBass, TC Electronic, Trace Elliot -- oh, the list goes on and on. Many people here love the cabs by Barefaced. I noobly wouldn't know, but I'll admit to having that stuff on order. A BF Compact plus a BF Midget will give you three different rigs to choose from, also soundwise. In addition, they're extremely light. Enough from me. It's 3 A.M. and it's not even Wednesday Morning. I hate you. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 6.
because the 5 can't do what the four can..............
. As good a reason as any, I guess. Me, I'm the gearstalker par excellence, I suppose. One of the best presents I ever got was when my wife came home after a trip to another country, and just said "JX-8P" and "PG-800" . (These are a Roland synth and its programming unit.) Used to bring everyone to madness when we would watch TV, and I'd go: "That's a 421! Classic stuff! Did you know it has ... " (a Sennheiser MD-421 that is; not a nice-ish cab ... er ... pecabulator). Have always tried to not bother band members or staff IIRC, except once, asking about their Lexicon (sp?) and TC reverbs when a band was completely set up before a gig, and were just using up time walking around. Got a very friendly and informative lecture about the whats, hows and whys. Bought the TC, as it was a LOT cheaper . Ref: Websters' dictoinery. best, bert
 7. My transition to 5-string bass has been very troublesome, alas. I can't count the number of times I've thought they should've chopped that B string into short pieces, and glued those pieces across the fingerboard in well-calculated distances from each other. Other than that, PoC. Cake peace, bert
 8.
The minor ii would a sub for the V because it contains the V of the 1. (In this case the tonal center being Eb -- the Bb being the 5). But here, the ii chord is a D major -- no Bb, plus a dissonent B natural.
I don't know the song, but above must contain a writing error, or several (I couldn't know), coz this doesn't work out. best, bert
 9.
wow, a bass that's part bongo and part accordion!
Emoticons don't suffice! ROTFLOL!!!!
'can't send the bass or courier it as it's too fragile and could get damaged despite the fact that it was made in a factory in the far east then sent by truck a few hundred miles to a port where it was put on a big ship then delivered to a a port in europe then transported by lorry to a depot in europe then put on another lorry which crossed the Channel by ship to Dover then carried to another distribution depot then put on another lorry who delivered it to the shop where i bought it.'
Sooo funny, and soooooooooo true! b, b
 10. Haven't compared the bags' internal dimensions, but my Thomann bag is roughly like this: width: the B9 plus slightly more than 1" on each side (good thing in my book) depth: the B9 plus roughly 3" (also a good thing in my book) height: the B9, in such a way that the lid, upon closed, will press the pedal all the way down to 11 (its most awesone feature). [Dumb look] "... These close to 11." b, b
 11.
admires very large tractors as pictured and wants one to avoid getting stuck in snow on the way to gigs.
You're good at this. That's roughly how I got that nickname: taking our biggest large tractor to do some snow shoveling and to pull another tractor out of the snow, >>[fast forward to hours later]>>, only to find out I'd found the 4WD tractor's twin brother with 2WD. b, b
 12. Hey ModLad, Must say I was taken quite aback by your introductory post. See, there's a fine line between enhusiasm and advertisement. This fine line seems to have a width right now of about 2,000 miles. I hope you clean up your act, and invite you to be enthusiastic together with us once you've done so. best, bert
 13.
I dunno. Filling the stereotype i suppose? Nevermind, nevermind.
He's not gonna stand for this, you know! He'll be chasing you now. Best move to the attick. I'll put up some electricity there. You want a blanket? Oh, and BTW, welcome wizard to the low end of loony county. You might just enjoy the ride. Please hurry and teach us some before you run away, tail between legs. best, bert Disclaimer: None of the above is to imply that the good people of Northern Ireland (from all denominations as well as the non-dominated) do in fact have tails. End disclaimer.
 14. Welcome! Can't help with the question (noobly never heard about it), but hope you get your answer. Good luck with the sale, and enjoy BC (that's even before the 50s) best, bert
 15.
yeah, weird. maybe i'm not the only person on here with the same bank card pin number.
My parents-in-law had 2121 on everything, as they lived in house number 21. I should've taught them about Rush, I guess.
 16.
I can vouch for the seller, he's a top bloke. I've backed out of buying several of his basses.
Genius!

 19. Hm. Discreet, Milty and me are nice. Leen has yet to visit me and buy me the beer he promised, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions there. Be careful on the Internet! best, bert

 22.
well thats the thing isnt it, as long as you put IMHO it makes everything ok eh. so imho that was having a pop at a guy who held up his hand and said sorry. but it doesnt really matter, i only stick my head in here every now and then but i normally find your posts to be winding people up. maybe thats not the case but i pop in for a bit of light entertainment and thats the impression you give. i really dont see how your first post here could be seen any different. to me it seems like your trying to bait the op. i diddnt read the beatles thread and wont either if is just another row, but to me if a guy says sorry he gets a pat on the back not another row. btw if you thought your post was anything but the above then why did you assume i was talking about you ? did you also assume when the op said " a small gorup of idiots" he meant you also, just wondering. beatles "love is all you need" live and let live and all that. the op said sorry and your first responce was great,no need to bring up the rest eh peace D
OK, there's a lot here to delve into. First, I never said anything about the IMHO thing, and I do not think like that. Furthermore, I react negatively to the notion that you would assume I did, and would start critisising me on the basis of that straw man. It seems that you and I have different views about how to treat people who say "sorry". But I said to him what I wanted to say to him, and am not participating in a downslide with you now. We're very close, as I hope you'll agree. But FWIW, I did not try to wind him up, I never try to wind people up, I never bait willingly. I really hate that stuff with a vengeance. I'm sorry you got a completely wrong idea about what I represent, and will take this with me. I will be trying to be even more clear than I already think I am. Just like in the post of mine that you responded to, I like to try to be simple, transparent, honest and direct, without any hidden agendas. FWIW2: To be quite open about it, I was concerned about his health and/or state of mind. As mentioned, I felt I'd seen a change in his postings. But one doesn't easily say that on a forum, and to a person one doesn't know anything about. It can be very confrontational, be interpreted as a weapon, and can easily be taken the wrong way (in many ways at the same time), and thus result in a type of war that I certainly didn't want to cause. But I thought that my words might hold up a little mirror in front of his face, and he could after that respond in any way that he'd choose. I hoped he'd realise that I had a point, and would decide to be more careful, or of course that he would disagree and tell me. For reasons unknown to me, he has not responded AFAIK. If you can't see how my first post can be seen any differently, I don't think I can assist. I think you're wrong about that, and you're surely wrong about my intentions, but I have no idea about what I could do to change that. It be so. Why I assumed you meant me? Well, statistics kinda clearly showed that people by large exclusively patted him on the back, whilst my post was not like that. I remembered my post. As to the group of idiots, yes, I did ask myself whether I had been an idiot and belonged to that group. No, I did not believe that he meant me as a member of that group. Your phrase "just wondering" is strictly speaking not true. You have specific reasons for asking exactly that. I'm not going into that area though. Peace? Hm. Now I am wondering. But yes, I do wish peace upon you. best, bert
 23.
I've got a pre AS (Armitage Shanks) era Bongo if you are interested in a trade.
Thanks for allowing me to hi-jack this sales thread. No, he doesn't want it. I, however, will pay double price for one that AS haven't had their [s]filthy[/s] clean hands on. Is it like this? PM'ed best, bert
 24.
I don't get it, a guy has the guts to say sorry and still a numpty still tries to have a pop at him.
I suppose you mean me. I wasn't trying to have a go at him. Please reread my text thoroughly. best, bert
