1. Hey Dave, Welcome from someone who is not from Pompey! Nice gear you got! An unnamable, a Jazz and a StingRay - now that's good in my book. Not that I know most of your pedals though, but I do be the owner of a Big Muff for four decades or so (it's not listed coz I didn't find it, and I didn't find it coz I wasn't searching, and I wasn't searching coz I got the Myrtle, see ) I see you wanna get involved. Good, good ... just you be aware we do not know the word "formerly". Don't wanna be a grammar nazi, but we simply don't like the elite out here. You just settle on "formally" now, boy. I liked the "pedal-file". Good thing you're not Irish then! Anyway, enjoy the site, its info and its banter! best, bert
 2. Best of luck! ... even if I myself could've done it better - without any rehearsing - had I only had the talent and put in the hours for many decades. best, bert
 3. Nah! That's not a BassTractor! It's a DoubleBassTractor! A DoubleBassTractor avatar would indeed have been embarassing for a bass guitarist. LOL at a great post and a great find. My original avatar was another BassTractor, a Case IIRC, but then one of the central people on BC required that all avatars contain a CAT, so I had to comply. I did manage to check out some of one of his bands. Sounded much intriguing, but the headphones I wore may have been not good enough. Will return, and hope they also have songs without the growl singing dominating so much. BTW, isn't that bog seat of ours a MöNSTëR? best, bert
 4.
then commenting on my circular breathing, not too subtly insinuating that it might come in handy in a more .. ahem... intimate setting!
Sorry, RR, but not all of us are as erudite as you. Could you please explain in more detail what you are in fact alluding to here? It boggles the mind. On another note, just like your genius sig, it again confirms my thesis on how people can be classy without class. Oh, and pics, please! best, bert
 5.
but luckily all we need here is English, so that everybody's on the same page
Ja, daar ben ik het verdorie helemaal mee eens. Goeie! het allerbeste! bert
 6. Hey Tricycle, Welcome! What a lovely first post you wrote. It seems you're more than housewarm already. Sad to see though that you had to turn your eyes to hugely, massively popular pop artists' album titles to find a moniker, though I guess it's better than "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Wouldn't that trike thing in the pic make for a nice avatar? No pressure! Just DO IT! Anyway, Enjoy the site! best, bert
 7. Hey Andrew, Welcome! Stereo, eh? Like they say we'll soon get on those Long Play vinyl records? That sounds intriguing! Yup, I'm not young. Anyway, enjoy your stay! best, bert
 8.
I generally found that people could see the quality difference between the basses, hence we sold many RBXs!
Exactly my experience as a buyer and a noob. I'd have the RBX well over the Squier Affinity. Ended up with a RockBass and three Classic Vibes, but that was not due to anything negative about the RBX. best, bert
 9. Congrats! I'm hoping for some words once you've used them a few weeks. best, bert
 10.
I'm sure the music style is not to everyones taste. Relaxed and effortless
Twas very much to my taste. Thanks for posting. Must check out his band(s). Sad he'd edit this one it so that any musical enjoyment is lost in the snippets. BTW, your avatar! What you doin' wit my sapphire black Bongo 4-HH? Oh, and welcome to BC! best, bert
 11. "Clap on! Clap off!" If only it were that easy ... best, bert
 12. Greetings back to you, Diego, and welcome to BC! Let's hope you will have a great time here, eh? All the best, bert
 13.
Fat Freddie, running through the streets of Moscow wins all avatars on Basschat.
Not interesting. But what's better: The Beatles or BetaFunk's avatar?
 14. Trying to contribute to the death of this thread, I have decided to not respond to the latest criticism. best, bert
 15.
I can't recall a time where I've ever seen anyone pulled up whilst posting something friendly or non-confrontational.
Didn't Skank teach you to put the smiley before the full stop, you stupid git? [Insert every single emoticon you feel for ... roughly ... here.] best, bert
 16. Free bump, as I've PM'ed you. b, b
 17. What's the best tonesoap in general, BTW?
 18. Hi Kate, Welcome to BC. I hope you'll thrive. Sorry, can't help with the DB question. Am a mere bass guitar noob. As to:
I think some of the skills are transferable
Yup! They are, especially the fingering if you're into atonal music with micro-intervals. Anyway, Enjoy! best, bert
 19.
Hi from another new member. Similar story but I did actually start out on bass, then on my tutors recommendations moved to guitar for many, many years (about 30) and have now finally moved back to my calling. Have been studying bass for the last two years and am really loving it. I play in a band with two 49 year old fantastic musicians and my 18 year old son who plays drums. I’m forty six and very much think of myself as the weak link. But I do own the PA! I play a Michael Tobias Design KZ4 bass, it is a wonderful instrument and very light weight. I had to replace my previous bass due to serious back problems. I am looking to replace my under powered EBS Classic 60 combo so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated although it does have to be light weight. Roj BCB (Black Country Bass)
Hey Roj, Welcome! So your tutor had faith in your brain capacity then? Nice of him, I guess, but it's great you'd finally call him out on it. Welcome back to Dumm County! In the mean time, be advised that many people won't see your introduction, as they'll have moved on from this thread. You might wanna consider making your own thread so more people can see your question. That, and/or making a thread on the Amps and Cabs forum. There's also a search function so you can read yourself up a bit before asking well aimed questions about gear that catches your eye. I assume that after 30 years of w*nking, you're a bit out of the loop - as of bass gear. First thing people will ask is what budget you have and what you want to achieve soundwise, but I guess that if you're content with the sound of your combo, that you could do with a few EBS cabs plus a Hi-Fi head. The EBS 112s do not weigh much, sound well, and there's a plethora of small, lightweight Class D heads that might do the trick together with the EBS cabs. Be aware Class D amps use smart trickery, and are not appreciated by everyone. Me, I have this rule that I'd rather walk more often between car and venue, but that every single unit must weigh a max of 20-25 kilos. Such a unit weight would give you some heavy duty amp head stuff (EBS, Genz-Benz or GLockenklang for example) and for example 2 112 cabs. There's a plethora of good other cabs besides the EBSs as well. Aguilar, Barefaced, Bergantino, Genz-Benz, Schroeder - and many more, depending on taste. You might like some of the Ashdown ranges, MarkBass, TC Electronic, Trace Elliot -- oh, the list goes on and on. Many people here love the cabs by Barefaced. I noobly wouldn't know, but I'll admit to having that stuff on order. A BF Compact plus a BF Midget will give you three different rigs to choose from, also soundwise. In addition, they're extremely light. Enough from me. It's 3 A.M. and it's not even Wednesday Morning. I hate you. Enjoy the site! best, bert
 20.
because the 5 can't do what the four can..............
. As good a reason as any, I guess. Me, I'm the gearstalker par excellence, I suppose. One of the best presents I ever got was when my wife came home after a trip to another country, and just said "JX-8P" and "PG-800" . (These are a Roland synth and its programming unit.) Used to bring everyone to madness when we would watch TV, and I'd go: "That's a 421! Classic stuff! Did you know it has ... " (a Sennheiser MD-421 that is; not a nice-ish cab ... er ... pecabulator). Have always tried to not bother band members or staff IIRC, except once, asking about their Lexicon (sp?) and TC reverbs when a band was completely set up before a gig, and were just using up time walking around. Got a very friendly and informative lecture about the whats, hows and whys. Bought the TC, as it was a LOT cheaper . Ref: Websters' dictoinery. best, bert
 21. My transition to 5-string bass has been very troublesome, alas. I can't count the number of times I've thought they should've chopped that B string into short pieces, and glued those pieces across the fingerboard in well-calculated distances from each other. Other than that, PoC. Cake peace, bert
 22.
The minor ii would a sub for the V because it contains the V of the 1. (In this case the tonal center being Eb -- the Bb being the 5). But here, the ii chord is a D major -- no Bb, plus a dissonent B natural.
I don't know the song, but above must contain a writing error, or several (I couldn't know), coz this doesn't work out. best, bert
 23.
wow, a bass that's part bongo and part accordion!
Emoticons don't suffice! ROTFLOL!!!!
'can't send the bass or courier it as it's too fragile and could get damaged despite the fact that it was made in a factory in the far east then sent by truck a few hundred miles to a port where it was put on a big ship then delivered to a a port in europe then transported by lorry to a depot in europe then put on another lorry which crossed the Channel by ship to Dover then carried to another distribution depot then put on another lorry who delivered it to the shop where i bought it.'
Sooo funny, and soooooooooo true! b, b
 24. Haven't compared the bags' internal dimensions, but my Thomann bag is roughly like this: width: the B9 plus slightly more than 1" on each side (good thing in my book) depth: the B9 plus roughly 3" (also a good thing in my book) height: the B9, in such a way that the lid, upon closed, will press the pedal all the way down to 11 (its most awesone feature). [Dumb look] "... These close to 11." b, b
 25.
admires very large tractors as pictured and wants one to avoid getting stuck in snow on the way to gigs.
You're good at this. That's roughly how I got that nickname: taking our biggest large tractor to do some snow shoveling and to pull another tractor out of the snow, >>[fast forward to hours later]>>, only to find out I'd found the 4WD tractor's twin brother with 2WD. b, b
