I presume we're on different tracks here, coz I still don't exactly get what you are and are not talking about. Right now I get the impression it's about improving the playing quality on a track you do already know. In case, I agree with you on that as well. +1 on posting pics. It does really help sometimes. I can understand your love for the Ray. I've loved it since it first came to Holland, and I wasn't even a bassplayer. Like others said, get a Ray. But if you had a bridge humbucker only, you might as well opt for a HH or HS, as the bridge hb is at the same place on those. Coincidentally, I received the first StingRay in my life only yesterday, a single humbucker with three pick-up options and a three-band EQ. I'm much impressed with it. What configuration is yours? How sayest thou on changing from what you had? Good luck! bert

However, I get the idea that you're also saying that one can not (almost) totally prepare a certain song or piece for a gig or concert without having played it. In case, I disagree. Or: in fact, it's wrong. When one reaches an adequate level of mastering the instrument and the visualisation, this is not a problem, provided the visualisation doesn't stop in the vision department, but also incorporates "visualising" the necessary movements and tensions: as in programming the brain with the signals it will have to send to the muscles later (yes, my English isn't adequate here - I hope you still understand). Exactly this was my preferred concert preparation: always saving time by preparing one of the pieces without playing it, only reading it on the commuter train, thinking about it and making notes - - with the exception of the last few days before the concert, which were used for ironing out some mistakes and quirks. A process like this would normally take three months or so, but I was a slow one, and could easily use five to six months on a concert programme. best, bert

Despite all the sensible points made by others, I'm firmly in the Stilton-esque camp, and have reacted negatively to Zawinul's synth sounds from the first time of hearing them back then, so for me it can not even [b]be[/b] a case of "dated". Other sounds from the era sound good even today, imho. best, bert

It may very well be that we do have to reconsider our actions in situations like this. However, by large I don't see people with doubtable courage, or gang supported attacks. By large, mind. I mainly see individuals getting provoked into action, and agreeing with one another. The pattern I seem to see, and I recognise that in myself, is that people start out friendly and polite and stay constructive until they're provoked enough, and something snaps. It's at that point I'm sure we need to show more restraint - not allowing that snap to get the better of us. OTOH, IMHO, restraint may never be allowed to become a free ticket for the Intis of this world to demand respect without showing any, to harrass and attack when people disagree or in other ways don't provide what the Intis crave. ^^ That was extremely accurate and scientific, ET, and I concur. Having been around musicians all my life, the clarinet must be one of very few instruments I can't get along with. My best friend is a pro player, and my daughter had one for years, but I never could get myself to practise the thing seriously - which is rather special for me. best, bert
