1. Hey Lazy, Welcome to BC! Realise though that "lazy bassist" is a pleonasm (though bassists are only 16.67% lazy when playing a five-stringer). Enjoy the banter and the site's vast base of information. Don't be too lazy to partake now. best, bert
  2.
BTW I am actually older than our drummer's mother, but do I care? No I rather like it.
I don't get that. I'm older than your drummer's mother too, but it leaves me cold. Morsefull, I think you first and foremost need to be old and know it - without any form of excuse or embarrassment. Your strength and character will translate. best, bert
  3.
Jazz from Hell for Bilbo I think Though I am still the only person I know who liked it.
You should get to know me then. I lurv it. best, bert
  4.
I think that's why most of us seem to be saying it's both.
Indeed, happily most seem to say that. Not all though. best, bert
  5.
If you're interested in developing more sophisticated chord changes I would recommend the following exercise: write three separate melodies - leave them without chords at first. Arrange them on the computer and have a think about the order. Leave it for a day then come back to the material and start fitting chords to the melodies. Do this three times - with different chords so you three different versions. Do this on separate days. Go back and spend several hours listening to what you've produced. You will often find that poor or uninteresting harmoniy choices immediately stimulate and prompt better choices on the first listening back. Finally spend time editing it together and don't worry about whether you can play it or not because you can spend timing learning it later.
Mighty cool! I specially like the important "separate days" part. I'll send my Seal Of Approval through snail mail, as I can't stick it on the thread from here. best, bert
  6. You'll find very few people here who own one, I fear. I have one, but haven't heard it, as it has been on loan from new. But as I fear you will hardly get an informed response, here is all I know - which isn't much. A bassist who tried it at my friend's house was wildly enthusiastic about it, and wanted one for himself. I don't know that bassist, so this is the tiniest of contribution. Another thing to note is that the "Effects" and "Comp" (I assume this is a built in compressor) are footswitchable with a double switch with stereo jack. At Thomann that thing costs £10.43. http://www.thomann.d...ad_foot_fs2.htm . Cable only 3.5 meters though. Bought one locally with 6 meter cable. FWIW, I bought the combo on the strength of my often mentioned Beta Aivin 35W combo (identical to http://www.thomann.d...enton_hbw35.htm ), which in my humble opinion tackles everything from fretless mwaah to slapping with "bravour", and which I far prefer above a 30W Roland Cube at double the price. That is all I know. Still hope you get a better answer. Edit: NO, I know a lot more! I also know that the user manual stinks. It tells you how to change the parameters of the built-in effects, but doesn't tell you exactly which parameters are available, or even how many parameters there are. So if you want to use them, you'll have to experiment and listen. best, bert
  7.
I always try to buy through my local shops
Me too, and I gladly pay 25% more, but only if they do their job well. But as to large online bass dealers, the original question, my experience with the following has been perfect or more than perfect: Andertons GAK Gear4Music Thomann
an "immaculate" Epiphone SG with a cracked neck and both pickups disconnected
For an Epi, that was indeed immaculate. Wow. Count yourself lucky! best, bert
  8.
You're not really Will Shakespeare .. you're Kit Marlowe in disguise. Either that or the Earl of Oxford. Or someone else.
At the risk of not being completely OT, and OT instead: He's someone else, or rather, someones elses: he's William Stanley, Earl of Derby AND Francis Bacon. Everybody knows that. "Follow the code." best, bert
  9.

You couldn't have welcomed him a little sooner? ... ... ... ... Oh, I see, You weren't here yet back then. Welcome to 2013, Blackparkas. best, bert
  10. Hey Lamont, Welcome! You'll find this is mostly a very friendly place, and one that welcomes questions. There's also the possibility to search the diverse sections and fora, so it's all up to you. I'd say: dive into the banter and be happy. I recognise the french horn bit. As an organist, I aptly concluded that neither the pipe organ nor the harpsichord, let alone the spinet, virginal and clavichord, were gonna set my rock career in stone. Your B2A, would that be a Hohner? My Hohner is a B2B, I think, and I seem to remember the B2A is the active version. Correct? Anyway, enjoy the banter! best, bert
  11. Hark! Whom have we heare now thenne? Welcome, William, to the Bass Lute Inne. Come forth, I say! there's other business for thee: Come, thou tortoise guard! Fine apparition! My quaint William. Hark in thine ear. Enjoye! All ye beste, Malvolio
  12. Hey, Mr. Terout, Welcome! Yeah, we know the drill. You are shown a bass guitar, and may return to your cell, where you contemplate about bass guitars for ten years, in complete state of detachment. Then.at a larger ceremony, you're allowed to touch the bass guitar, after which you're returned to your cell for the next ten years of detached contemplation. Then the big day arrives, and you and all the other Terout Stars are gathered together for the Great Initiation. Twenty years of concentration and extra-sensory learning will finally pay off! You're handed a bass guitar, and from the very first touch, you miss every note like if you were the bassist in Abandoned Stars. Enjoy the banter! best, bert
  13.
or Bert just writes random rubbish... oh wait, we know it's that last one
Quick attempt without Google Translate: "Uh oh! This is going completely wrong. Well ... OK then: Welcome, pal* from an old organ/synth guy who also is learning to play the drums, and who switched to bass slightly over one year ago, and who, one week ago, ordered a fretless bass that will arrive in a few days. Only: don't live in Malmö but in southern Norway. Oh my gosh." *) Literally: "little boy", but there's a component here that makes I personally even use it with older people. Tends to break the ice.
  14.
Stumbled across a guitarist called Buckethead. I've been listening to a lot of his stuff
With cans, I presume?
  15. Hey, Beachy D, Welcome into the fold. Happily we don't discriminate Mercans here - just treat them very badly, using incomprehensible expressions and words and stuff. But you'll survive. Enjoy the fora, and good luck with the hunt for the bubinga Yamaha. BTW, what does dbeachy mean? I undecyphercrypted some of it, but not all: d = ? b = basses e = effects a = amps c = cabs h = headphones y = ?
I've spent some time in Virginia touring on a big old Harley - lovely state and nice people
Hm. I've spent some time in Virginia too. Found no other people there at the same time though. Sure you did everything right? best, bert
  16. Sadly, another one hit the dust: http://www.progrockmag.com/news/van-der-graaf-generators-nic-potter-dies/
  17. Speak up, Maurie love. Can't hear you.
  18.
My name's NOT Bill! What is the meaning of these spurious titular anomalies?
Sorry, Mark. Twas an attempt at some innocent fun with the concept of having gear with one's own name, not an attempt to annoy anyone. best, bert

    hello

Hi Ped, Welcome to BassChat. Lightning fast career too! Great avatar you got. Any cats inside that thing? best, bert (who doesn't drive a Clitroen, but would like to make pictures of a Clitroen SLM some day)
  20.
That is not too generous...Im on the mission from God to improve the bass sound of the world
Ooooohw. Well, in that case, I've PM'ed you my postal address to send the bass to. b, b
  21.
No it isn't - my name's Mark, too.
While that may be true, Billy-Jack, it wasn't me who made the general public aware.
You'll be getting the right cab for one of the two right reasons! Markbass cabs are also excellent.
Fixed. best, bert
  22.
I would love a mark bass cab as my name is mark and for no other reason.
You're a man after my heart, Mark! (Note that Discreet's real name is Bill-Maurice (yeah, I know), and that he's a man after my heart too. ) Welcome to BC, at any rate. I noobly can't help on the fiver, sorry. Enjoy the bass and the chat! best, bert
  23. Oh oh! Tsjongejonge. Welcome, Ronald! You've got what it takes to be here: a net scanner and the ability to find out this is a good bass forum. Congrats! Scan the vast site and its info, and join the chat. Enjoy! best, bert
  24.
No he's not, he's Norwegian.
No, he's not. He's Dutch. (... living in Norway though.) best, bert
  25.
price tag
Priceless, like. The rest. best, bert
