Hello

Hi Kipper, Welcome to BC. Enjoy the banter and share some wisdom. best, bert
  2. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... er... what? ... Ooooh... Sorry Sam, Your introduction just woke me up. Gimme a minute... ...... Wow! Welcome to BC! I for one won't sleep anymore. Have roughly the same background as you, but that was with organs and electronic studio composition. I'm now only having fun, and with a bass instead. Please feel free to be a basset to the forum! all the best, bert
  3. Hey Chris, Thanks for a great read. Belated welcomes then! I envy that you live so close to Leamington - where the toy shop is. As to late blooming, I can relate. Was almost 24 when I started at music college, and happily really got to experience what some extra maturity (personalitywise and musicwise) can give you for free where others will strive. Go for it and good luck on the way! best, bert
  4. This is just unbelievable - to the degree that a simple "congrats" doesn't even get close to covering it. Well done! After this fascinating thread, now I get the post-gig depression! Have a great journey! best, bert
  5. Hi Steve, Welcome! That was one nice introduction. Please feel free to enjoy the banter and to share some wisdom. Any pix of the El Maya? best, bert

    Hey!

Hi Jay, We'll do our very best! Welcome to BC. But how does filling your life with things of value constitute "a gap"? Sorry you had to return to the bass. Life can be hard sometimes. Enjoy the forum! best, bert
  7.
Let us pray he will fill the venue with the scent of ambergris.
That, or: "Thanks for your warm whalecum! Our next song is "Crashing Gigs on DeeBee". Three, four ..."
  8.
If you are younger than me, but older than my brother, I'll ask my parents to adopt you.
Just tell me how old you are. Looking at your sig, I'll be any age required... Brother! best, lil bro
  9.
The 3.0 is all FET and sounds really good, very tight and clean but only 300 watts, the max heads have a FET channel and a valve channel running into separate power amps 600 or 900 watts, so basically you can run 900 watts into a 4 ohm load off one channel and 900 off the other, 4 4x10's off a head the size of a shoe box!
Ah, thanks. So I gather you're basically saying the FET channel in a big Max sounds basically like or similar to the 3.0 then? I knew about the FET / FET+valve thing, and that's what attracted me to the expensive ones most, but was bewildered by your "put that into". I guess my lacking English is showing here, but that's hardly news. Thanks! You deserve to become bongoPete1977. best, bert
  10.
the FET on the 3.0 is the best Genz noise I have heard so put that into the 900 watt amp (ie the Max 9.2) and you have everything all in one amp
Sorry, didn't understand that. Are you saying the Max 9.2 does have the same FET, or that one must change FETs in it? best, bert
  11. AFAIK, mixing cabs is often taking extra risks. The impedance of the cabs wil vary with frequency and load, and that goes for both cabs, so the Ampeg may be blown even earlier than when you cross the nominal 200W. Also, 200W is not just 200W. There's enough threads on this stuff here. BTW, there's two types of blowing up as to which element goes. There's a huge difference between a tweeter blowing (amp hard clipping) and a sub blowing (not tolerating amp's watts). From what you wrote, I gather a large element blew, but just wanted to mention this as well. YMMV, and I may be wrong. best, bert
  12.
my dad would disassemble anything that stopped working at home, from TVs to washing machines. When he was done, tehre were always a few screws and washers left over... "and that?" I'd ask. "oh, that was not necessary, it works fine without it" Fortunately, he was a lot more careful with the car
Oh! My! God! We're brothers!!! My dad would have cogs left after repairing clocks, but the clocks would still work perfectly of course. Never ceased to amaze me. best, bert
  13.
Yes, if you are of a curious and inquisitive nature and like to know how things work etc.
Yup! That's me!
We'd still live in caves if there weren't a few people in every generation like that
Huh? I live in a cave. bewildered, bert
  14.
I jest!
Surely, you only jest!?!? We all want the tape - even the girls! best, bert
  15.
Unfortunately you are all forgetting one of the most important ingredients to the sound: JJ Burnel himself.
Actually, they didn't reveal what they had or had not forgotten. I would assume it's fairly known by now that the musician does have some input to the sound, so we can safely omit repeating that tidbit of shared knowledge every other sentence.
Ace, I've got a P so I'll put my boot through my practice amp tonight :-D
Won't get you there. You forget ( ) the most important bit: his half sawn through, oscillating neck! Borrow my tools? best, bert
  16. Hi Bob, Welcome to BC! Homegrown and homespun wisdom will readily flow your way (and mine, btw). Enjoy the friendliness, the wisdom and the (lack of) humour! best, bert
  17.
a true depression sufferer would probably miss their first few appointments because they lacked the motivation to leave the house for them.
Ha! That's me. But I feel sure it's not about lack of motivation, but about the lack of ability to adapt to, or even remember, new routines. best, bert
  18. Same here as well. I forget to breath reading the thread. If this goes on, I'll die before tomorrow evening, so I'll wish you good luck right away. best, bert
  19.
Bert, thats a serious rig you have there!!!....very nice...and i noticed the 'Gauche' there too......Tres bien;)
I thank you on behalf of BC user Gauche, who's gear this is. He's no righty, of course, and I decided to celebrate this glorious bodily capacity by putting his GK through a short MS Paint session. But I do like how the niaG and emuloV retsaM work the correct way on this one. My own gear is slightly more modest in that it's an Ashdown MAG 300. I love your VM! A VM or CV Jazz will hopefully be my next bass. Very impressive stuff. But personally I prefer the Squier version above the Squire. b, b
  20.
the music/project direction im in at the moment is doom metal type i suppose that dont help my mood
Long ago, I studied some music therapy. One of the principles is that one should avoid happy music at all cost in the beginning, if music is to be a tool. The mismatch with the mood makes it counterindicated. BTW, having suffered from depression my whole life, or as long as I can remember, I sympathise with and understand your story to some degree. Me too, I've done the gear buying thing: "But if I have a recorder and start recording my compositions and my playing, I'll surely play a lot more, and get out of the depression that way! Yeah!" I have sold, or hopefully am soon selling, every bit of gear (recording stuff, synths, guitar even) with the exception of the bass related stuff. I cannot live with the thought of one day missing my basses - and that day is sure to come if I sell. YMMV of course. Best of luck! bert
  21.
I didn't even know any publication with that title existed at all!
Yup. Here in Norway it does. Good paper too, though maybe a bit lefty. best, bert PS Sorry Mark, for hi-jacking your thread despite our promises before voting day. Consider it like taxing you, and taxing you good!
  22.
You are always welcome, Bert
I thanke thee on my barefaced knees.
must be one of the most boring papers in the world of English-language media...
Ah! So you haven't tried The Class Struggle yet then? beste, berte
  23. Hi BasRus, Welcome to BC! Good luck with the Aerodyne as well. I hope you enjoy being here. best, bert
  24.
Southpaws Of The World, Unite!
I'll unite alright, but are lefties with righty gear welcome at all, or is the gear the core of it all? I promise I hate playing righty gear. I hate it! Does it help if I read both The Guardian and The Class Struggle? Please? Does this help?: Pretty please? best, bert
  25.
Bert, youre from Norway? Hadet godt;)
Great! Ha det godt, you too! best, bert (lefty too; don't play lefty gear - dunno why not)
