1. Hehe. She was a flautist and background singer, that's why. Gonny Vijn's her name. Her man André de Groot used to be a DJ and gear technician in Nijmegen. Anyway,
  2. Hoi Grtz, Welkom bij Baspraatje! I'm sure you'll enjoy. (My sister lived under the smoke of the PGEM for many years - you might even know her.) Talk to ya,
  3.
Well now...even if someone did dream this....I'm not sure we would build it!!! LOL!!
Why not? I know it's just an optical illusion, but if you stare at it for some time, you may see a vague and indirect, but still quite classy allusion to male body parts. Also, this design is quite ergonomical in the arm warmer as well as in its lack of neck dive. ... and have you seen the "Trus' me" rod?
  4.
so, how do we embed rather than just show typed link?
I've experienced that there are several methods: One is the markup tag "media" before a link to a video and "/media" after it - both tags in square brackets. Another method is a markup tag specially for YouTube, in which one doesn't need the whole link but just the YT code for that exact vid. Details escape me at the moment. A third method is a copy and paste method that has given me unpredictable results. A fourth method is to use "Share" functionality on the vid in question. I'm sure others with more experience will step in and correct this.
  5. Noord-Brabant is the official province, whilst this area within it is called West-Brabant. I used the local dialect to welcome him, whilst referring to the Carnival - and its names for his and my community. The festival is not flower based, as it is held in February or March, but some flowers may find their way to the decorations. "Miles" is my attempt to make it easier for the few readers that might be from the UK. I now realise that I've overlooked the vast majority from Holland and Norway though, and realise I should've used "km" and no calculator.
  6. Not physically here, but Gentle Giant, Frank Zappa and JS Bach hopefully all have realised their blatant plagiarism of my work.
  7.
It would appear that there are many places where the grass is green and the girls are pretty, I like these places.
Hehe, yes I like those places too. These two, however, are one and the same. Roosendaal, where B-string lives, is called "Tullepetaonestad" during the Carnival before Ash Wednesday. (BTW, "Stijlorenrijk" is where I'm from, some 10 miles from B-string's place.)
  8.
Ok I'll ..... Take it back to Tullepetaon City
Sir Lurksalot, You're quite the knightly gentleman, taking this back on my behalf whilst only having provided a poetry inspiring translation. Mea maxima culpa, of course. If you please, allow me to take it back myself ... to Roosendaal, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.
  9.
Thanks for explaining that.
Ha! You must be male. You're really the first person ever to appreciate my stalking.
  10.
I've always thought that those who snigger at other peoples' specialist interests or hobbies - trams, philately, house bricks, whatever - are entirely deficient in the virtues of empathy, wisdom and politeness. That they freely articulate such views in the belief that they are demonstrating their innate superiority speaks volumes about their witlessness. It's rather like the person who says "You read books? God, how boring" and howls with idiot laughter. You don't know whether to pity them or lure them to a subterranean cavern and butcher them in the interests of the wider public good.
No comment. It just deserved to be held up and repeated. Tx!
  11. Hi and welcome! Hope you'll have a good time here. There's no specific protocol about links. It's just that your very first post sounded like you were trying to sell an album, see? New member, one post only, post contains adspeak, post contains link to goods, post contains a "thank you" ... I think you get the drift. Fora (forums) like BC are of course protective about what they've achieved. Millions of shops could potentially try and use it for ads instead. Anyway, enjoy, and contribute if you feel like it.
  12.
Yes, my neighbour once was banging at my door at 2.30 a.m.-can you believe it? Good job I was up anyway playing my Bass.......
Classic! Can I quote you?
  13.
Confused as I thought I'd replied to this ....
Yup, you answered the same question in the Bass Guitars section.
  14.
Wasnt that about molesting little girls ?
"Eyeing little girls with bad intent", indeed. Then again, who isn't like that? I for one always eye the little girls with bad intent: "I think I'd like to meet your grandmother..."
We used to do Tull's Living in the Past, back when we had a KB player do the flute bit, nice bass line going on there.
Yup! Great bass line, and the one that finally pulled me away from the keyboards.
  15.
So im looking for songs eith a good bass line. Stuff like love cats seem to go down alot better than songs with a simple follow aling chord stucture.
Since I never understood those lines, can I just ask: Are you simply asking for songs with a good bass line that would be great for voice, guitar and double bass? Or is the question more specific?

Hi Si600, Welcome to BC! Sounds like you'll fit right in. My guess is you get best exposition for the Q in the section that fits, but I've been known to be wrong about stuff. Enjoy the ride!
  17. As a noob, I do not know most of the basses mentioned here. However: Ric - - Chris Squire's sound. I loved it, love it now and will always love it. Warwick Thumb - - the first bass I heard that sounded absolutely effing fantastic without any effects, on just about any amp with controls flat. Now _that_ was Plug 'n' Play. Better ones may surely exist, but this was the one I heard some 20-25 years ago. Music Man Bongo - - the sound, the EQ quality and versatility, the ergonomics, the build quality, the fantastic design, the neck feel.
  18. HI and hi, Johnny. Welcome and welcome to BC Enjoy and enjoy!
  19.
1974 MG Midget.
What? Have you never even realised how many basses you could've made out of that thing?
  20. Hi MGDriver, Welcome to the masses! I hope you'll find something interesting here now you decided to surface. Me and other noobs will hang on your lips should you decide to share some wisdom. You really drive an MG? Then you may like that we have an Off Topic board for talking crap. Anyway, enjoy!
  21. Of course, I'm in no position to say "Welcome back", so I'll leave it at a modest Welcome back! Avatar: the little one is 100*100, so if you add some pixels on both sides of your original so it becomes square, I think a kind soul will buy yer head on eBay and donate it to BC.
  22.
Welcome Alan from another guitarist turned bassist.
Only recently, I presume seeing your avatar?
  23.
sit alongside Sweet Home Alabama in a medley?
Don't know about where the line goes for you guys, but in my own ears you could easily get some Kinks or Jethro Tull to sit well, and you could go back and forth between them as a form for segue. First songs to come to my mind are Jethro Tull's "Hymn 43" and "Up to Me" (both off Aqualung), but you could even pull it off doing stuff with "Lola" by The Kinks - if you wished, that is. Sweet Home Ala met her in a club down in North Soho Edit: When writing that, I never thought of the possibility that your band might do a covers medley whilst sounding close to the originals. In that case, just forget these examples.
  24.
and now im officially broke :-)
In that case: welcome home, bro! Enjoy the site! I'm from Etten-Leur close to Breda. Can you see my house from where you are?
  25. Knowing a little bit about health, or lack thereof, I do sympathise with your situation. I've read the whole thread, but have not yet quite understood what you're saying. If you're saying your health is just way too bad for you to be able to do _anything_ at this point, then so be it. All the best wishes to you. Get your mom to forgive you and buy her some similar stuff, even if you have to take up a loan for it. I know that one someimes cannot get a loan, and so does your mum If you're saying that your health is such that you _could_ in fact do something, but that you just can't be arsed to take your responsibilty, well then you know the answer, and we don't have to spell it out. If you're saying that your health is such that you _could_ in fact do something, but that your fear for a health deterioration holds you back, then you are simply wrong. Even in periods of relatively deep depression, you can fight and you can even win. The fight itself _will_ help you. It will give you some health back (even if only temporary, this is too valuable to miss out on) and last but not least, at any rate it will help on your self esteem greatly. Been there, done that, read the litterature about it. Good luck!
