1. Welcome, Josh! Sorry I won't be checking you guys out. At 55, I feel I'm too old for this. I've never swam more than a mile or two - even when I was younger. Enjoy the ride! bert
 2. "You play what I tell you to play! It's MY rehearsal room!" Our drummer. We practised in the school he attended, a pre-college music school. The rest of the band were stellar musicians, myself being the weakest link despite formal music education. "There's no use in this if you guys are just UNWILLING to play covers of THE SHADOWS exclusively..." Guitard in our 6 piece band that set out to start with covers allsorts, and then develop our own music when we felt we were up to it. "You artsy fartsy college musicians are just a bunch of losers. The real quality musicians are those like the ones that make the music for tv programmes." My bandmate and best friend, one year after he had been denied a place at the college of music, despite his technical capabilities and his new £3,000 concert guitar (70s money). Not that he necessarily was wrong. It's just kinda funny coming from a guy who failed at becoming one himself. These days he makes £150,000 a year in accounting, so... bert
 3. Hey Tony, Welcome to BC from an old (55+) noob git. I'm sure your story gets recognised a lot here. I recognised for one. Enjoy the bass as well as your ride on BC! Bert

 5. Noobs _must_ own dozens and dozens. Only way to cover every style and only way to get used to, and good at, all kinds of necks, string profiles, string tensions, string distances and so on and so forth. This is _not_ debatable, and there can be _no_ talk of any compromise. Damn you people! Better halves are _reading_ this fer cryin' out loud! bert
 6. Hej Gustaf, Pratabas.se är fryktansvärd grusom! Dom talar svenska där, och det är svårt at förstå för mig. Jag fattar bara inte at dom inte talar hollandska. Välkommen! Hoppas du gillar denna här sajten. bert edit for spelling and allsorts. BTW, I'm just saying the Swedish chat site is terrible (they talk Swedish there), and that I hope he'll like BC.
 7.
Yo noorderbuur!
Yo zuiderbuur!
Mijn tandenborstel is door de bliksem getroffen.
ROTFLOL, my shirt shooting all its buttons, the buttons ricochetting through my apartment, and landing on my tooth brush in the bathroom. bert

 15. The take of _this_ noob: More than 40 years ago, the Rick was the first bass I could recognize with some confidence. Chris Squire's sound, as well as his playing, made it very, very clear that later, when I grew up, I would not be willing to die before I had owned a Rick like that, and sounded like that. That illness has lasted, and probably will last on some more. My fantastic Bongo doesn't change that, nor do the other basses I own or will buy. I'm SO going to own and play a Rick, even if it means I must buy a highly specialized, expensive rig. I lurv it, and lurv it to death. BTW, and noobly so, the Rick is still the only bass I can recognize with some confidence. best, bert
