Just having listened to the effect, I now think they used the Yamaha organ after all (and my doubt was about me forgetting I'd never owned organs with that sound character). It would be easy to reproduce on many synths with the mod wheel set to one or two octaves (haven't checked the exact amount, but one of them should do), and have the base organ sound as one of those sixties combo organs, which means a bit sharp and raspy. Since you ask about an mp3, you could easily make an mp3 yourself by importing the song into Audacity or similar, and remove everything that is not the intro. It's as easy as making a statue of an elephant! (*) 😉 . . (*) For the uninitiated: you start with a large block of granite, and then simply chop away anything that doesn't resemble an elephant. Done.

In the vids, Donny playbacks on a Yamaha YC-30 indeed. Remarks by the band suggest that the same organ was used during the recording of the song, but I've always felt doubtful as I've never been able to recreate the sound on Ribbon Controller-equipped organs, and have never heard anyone else do it. Can't help with an mp3. Sorry.

@Rich, do you happen to know anything certain about the brands Mazeti and Wolf? Are they the same? Is this a cooperation?

Hey! Searching Google, I found a post by our very own Rich from 2007, where he mentioned his "Wolf/Mazeti 6-string fretless". Still don't know what that all means, but, calling @Rich.

Don't think this has been mentioned yet, and all y'all are probably way ahead of me, but just in case: I've tried to study the pics carefully, and in my mind the "W" on NFF's bass in the OP is exactly identical to the "W" from WOLF. However, it appears to be not a mother-of-pearl inlay but a shiny sticker that has been damaged. The roundness, AFAICS, is just lacking shininess. The patterns in the wood seem to indicate that. Also, the widths of the lines and the whole composition make it seem like an exact copy. The logo beneath it, some type of scorpion, seems identical to a logo used by Mazeti on different models. I wouldn't know what that all means, and I don't understand the thread anymore, but deemed it OK to mention that.

Hm. Jedistar.com says the acoustic guitar above was made by Karl Redlich in the 1990s. Personally, I still can't see the difference between the "W" in WOLF and the one on NFF's bass, unless the lower left on the "W" on NFF's bass is rounded. Still bewildered.

What am I not getting here? What seems like the exact same "W" from the Korean Wolf logo suddenly belongs to a French luthier that on his website uses a different style? Colour me bewildered. Can anyone explain? Cool stuff though! 🙂

Aye. I rented one twice before giving up. Hammonds and staircases! My admittedly light upright piano was a lot easier to carry around. I kid you not. One person carrying the weight and one person steering the top, we'd have it upstairs in no time.

Great call. Great organ player too (and in my mind Peter Hammill must be one of the most overlooked prog composers but that's another thread). I remembered Banton's Farfisa and the organs he built himself, but only yesterday saw him playing a Hammond E100 (I think).

A little shout out for a fellow student of mine, Carlo de Wijs. IMS he also took my place in a jazz band when I quit, and in case did a better job. He's got rebuilt a Hammond into ultra light alu frame, and also has MIDI-fied it so he's playing synth at the same time as the Hammond. I'll dig up some footage of that. Edit: found something with the midified Hammond organ. Bare feet once again! I must be one of those pesky foot fetishists! Anyway, Carlo is one of the educated ones who use both toe and heel, which simply is better. Not the most interesting song, but it gives an impression about his sound:

Another fan here. Each and every time my parents were to buy a new organ, they contemplated finally buying that Hammond, but it never materialised because of the price. Even this last Xmas, my mum (now 87) proposed I buy a Hammond as "music is your life". In our family we loved Jimmy Smith, Rick van der Linden, Rhoda Scott and also Roy Phillips of The Peddlers who did sometimes play a Hammond with full pedal keyboard on Dutch tv, instead of what I understand was his regular organ, a Lowrey.
