  1. Ha! Reminds me of the time I was playing "Misty" when a classical organist came in, commented on the "dirty" chords, and proceeded to try and play the dots whilst shivering with the excitement of being a sinner. I kid you not.
  2. Hehehe. I love the "sloppiness" as it's character defining. Many songs earn on not being played tightly. IMHO of course. BTW I'm used to playing stuff with all types of timing characteristics even at an early stage of learning it, and find it enlightening. Helps me decide on a final version that has something new to offer to an audience.
  3. If possible, also write the scan code from the sticker with that same marker. Once, with a particularly expensive item, instead of big arrows and flashing lights, I equipped the box with a GPS tracker, which the buyer then sent back again. Gave some ease of mind to both him and me. That said, my experiences with both UPS and DHL have been perfect through a few hundred transactions.
  4. That reverberated with me. 😢 My main priority at 62 is surviving and keeping a roof over my head. No time for any real music making, as my life is about keeping the wolves from the door. BC is one of my reliefs. At 20, whilst music normally was my life, that exact year didn't spawn much of it. I prioritised walking around with infectious mononucleosis and trying to become a police senior officer whilst working for the government. The years surrounding it were all about music though, and I tended to study and perform music for 12 hours a day both just before it and some years later again. 🤘
  5. Aye. It felt odd to me too. But rather than explaining why you mounted them on the wall, please tell how you did it. I can see neither hook nor screw!
  6. Fully working? Great price, and congrats! I'd pay multiples of that price. The PA-4 hammer action alone is worth more than that. It really is a beast of a MIDI controller, competing with things like the Yamaha KX-88 which is without sound whatsoever. If I'm right in thinking it also has built-in sound, and has the traditional piano sound from the era, then I think it's a very usable sound, but may be experienced as dated by many. Me, I love it and still use my Roland MKS-20 piano module that I think has roughly the same sound. Enjoy! 🙂
  7. ...and the weird thing is, it's one of only two - of the 15 I did away with - that are still missed on a daily basis, the other one being a fretless SR-5, even though I actually thought I preferred the Bongo for both ergonomics, 4-band EQ and looks. Their universally usable sound is one thing, and them starting to play when you just look at them is another. I hope it served or serves you well. Incidentally, the Neptune Blues were the last of the specials that got my heart beating faster, but: "This new line is dangerous!" shouts my wallet at me, with indignation in its voice. I knew I should stay away from the Gear section!. BTW, I've never come across a Music Man with dead spots that I could hear (or not hear 🙂 rather).
  8. A personal pet peeve of mine: Specify the distance from the top of the logo to the top of the shirt. If you don't do that, then many t-shirt companies wil put the logo somewhere where it looks good whilst on the machine, but will be too low when the shirt is tucked in someone's trousers (sorry for the non-English). Belly logo: not pretty!
  9. At one point in time I was in a technically great band, all of them being teachers at the college of music - in both jazz and classical. We decided that we would not do any cover if we didn't make it better than the original. The original already existing, the audience didn't need a rehash of the same, but a new, fresh approach. For those interested, here's our setlist: . . . . . .
  10. That's fantastic! The wheels work as pancake plug protectors! BC done it again: we've solved @nuno1959's problem. Pat on the back, guys. 😉 🙂 (Just kidding, Nuno! The mind demanded to link the skateboard to your question, and I let it do so.)
  11. Morocco being outside the EU, yes, you will normally have to pay VAT plus an administration fee. VAT is charged over the assumed value, not over the price. The assumed value is set by She-Who-Is-Royal's Revenue and Customs or by someone (like a shipper) who is licensed to do this on their behalf. Then there is the other issue of CITES rules. Stuff like rosewood and mother-of-pearl may need a fee and a license, or just a license. For a better explanation, see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/cites-imports-and-exports , where you can find a pdf file that mentions rosewood exemptions and weight for example. You should realise BTW that "export rules for the US", as often found on ze innerwebz, is not the same as "import rules for the UK". As an example, I ordered a bass from the US with neck inlays that were exempt from fees on import here, but they were not exempt from US fees when exporting from there.
  12. Wow! BC at its best again. Thanks a bunch, @KK Jale
  13. True dat, but most of the time it breaks my heart coz it's in the wrong hands. 😉
  14. Last year, when I still was 60, I applied for the vacant keys job with the Rolling Stones. "Sorry, mate!", Keith said with a kind and considerate voice. "We think you're just too old for rock and roll! We mean: we're going to South-America again in a fortnight. How do you imagine carrying that huge church organ with you everywhere? If only you'd exchange it with a MIDI keyboard and some modules, we'd have you right away!" I declined.
  15. BTW, Gearslutz had a great thread about effect pedals that do well with synths as to sound as well as signal level and impedance. It's a bit old, but offers a lot of info. Worth a look: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/858034-list-synth-friendly-pedal-manufacturers.html
  16. I'm not really experienced, but have always liked reverb, chorus and fuzz on bass duty synth. That said, the adage goes that a good delay will do reverb, but a reverb won't do delay. Idunno. Personally, in the old days I used an EHX Big Muff to great effect. Loved it so much that I bought a Myrtle Pedals Corvid Fuzz a few years ago. I have used other pedals (Boss Bass Chorus, Boss Bass Delay, several Zoom multi-effects), and have LIKED them but am not knowledgeable enough to recommend anything. For my synths with MIDI and patch memory, I use the TC Electronic M350 and G-Sharp 19"-rack twin-effect modules, as they too have patch memory and respond to MIDI patch changes. Great for live. I guess they're not the best, but they sound great to my ears and are readily available from my local. Today I might buy a Zoom multi-effect or a Boss RV-500, Idunno.
  17. Basschat may use any of my photographs anywhere outside of the basschat forums for any reason, but the pics I uploaded to sandm.com (login name anallog) must be published with my full name and address. 😉
  18. The sniffiness may well have a lot to do with the Monologue not being the Minimoog. Like most or all synths, the Monologue is great at bass duties - - for those even my 1-VCO synth did very well - - but it tends to be a bit more polite than for example an Odyssey or Minimoog. If you like what it promises, then I'd go for it as there really is no risk. That said, other synths exist like for example the Behringers (Model D, Neutron and possibly upcoming Cat and Odyssey spring to mind) and of course the Minilogue, Bass Station II, MiniBrute etc. There's also effect boxes of course, so it's easy to rough it up a bit.
  19. First of all: congrats with the band and with that feeling. As Skybone said: may it continue! As to "gigging, paid musicians": before, I just played for the love of it. Money was needed to survive, but without the love, I'd have stopped doing it pronto. My last two bands had conflicts between other members. After some mending attempts I quit both. These days I just dep, and only to help someone out. In these cases I'm not there to enjoy it, though I might enjoy it a lot.
  20. The bridge pickup is in the same position, so if both have the same electronics, then yes. I forgot exactly which ones come with 2-band EQ and which ones with 3-band EQ, but gather all "Classic" models come with 2-band. Somebody'll probably chime in. Though: better be safe than sorry, and get a Bongo 4HH with 4-band EQ! 😃
  21. One. My excuse is that it isn't easy to sell. 😄 When I had 16, I had another excuse though: something about my curiosity and my need to know.
  22. Serious question, SRPete: Are you joking or being serious?
  23. Thanks! Now I can afford two! Seriously though, and I guess @Quatschmacher probably agrees, it's a fantastic app, as described (I think) in the Odyssey thread. For example, it has 8-voice polyphony if you want it, unlike the hardware model. Get it!
