I'm afraid you've got your science a bit wrong here AT, things that look green absorb strongly in the blue and red, and hardly at all in the green
You infidel! Coming here with Real World Science! Bow before Thread Science or we will stone you! (Max. 14 stones per attendee. BC staff and their families are excluded from participation. Women not admitted.)
 2.
making the effort to look a bit like a 'rock star' and playing that part when I'm performing is all part and parcel of my role as an entertainer.
Yup, and if the snapshot doesn't lie, you do this very well indeed. BTW, I'm all for it, and try to think along the same lines - given the right band and the right type of music.
 3.
Where do I send the cheque?
Huh? ...but I received your cheque already weeks ago, as soon as I was done with the last batch of persons I had to make look bad!?!? I even PM'ed you to confirm! Confused, Bert Seriously though, your pic hopefully is just a snapshot of one moment in which you looked good and the rest not so good. But taken at face value, for me it illustrates well what we're talking about here. I think that how the band "looks" (not necessarily in their clothing) is indeed important, as it's part of the total package the audience presumably pays for - directly or indirectly. Now I personally dislike corporate thinking in this, as well as band uniforms, but I do like respect for the audience. In this, attitude and personality are probably more important than the exact style of clothing. For example, musicians being preoccupied with how in the world to play that next chord are maybe more detrimental to the audience's experience of the performance, than a combination of bad t-shirt with denim and basketball shoes.
 4.
Not any more - now edited for little '63J
5.
Duplicate
Duplicate? Nah. Just a cheap clone.
 6. Finally a thread where one doesn't shy away from scientific data as a base for developing real insight. Here we go again then (as they have been shown earlier): Note that these are different basses, and that the woman showing the classical way of doing things is not me.
 7.
Horrid American Rubbish That Keeps Exploding. I find this highly amusing as it is quite the opposite of the truth IMO/IME.
Highly amusing indeed, and quite the opposite of the truth IMO. It explodes only once. (Couldn't resist, but am just kidding.)
 8.
Mrs Anthony is rather hoping that I hang onto the Orange for a while
Hehe. Similarly, my daughter gives me Hull for having sold my Terror Bass, and commands me to never sell the Micro Terror.
 9.
My OBC410 is one that looks cooler
That looks mighty cool indeed, especially together with that orange Ray. (The coolest of course is the Micro Terror stack with two 8" cabs, but that's a detail.)
 10. Assuming you're on a budget, a cheaper Novation, Arturio or Korg will do you well. I personally love the Waldorf Blofeld which can be had as a desktop model without keyboard, and which is easier to program than the few knobs might seem to indicate. Be aware you must update the OS to version 1.22 or it will be buggy. Fantastic synth though. If you are after an overview over the history of synth sounds, the Alesis Micron (especially in its Akai Miniak version) will do even better than the Blofeld. Probably best to come back with questions once you have established a liking for one or a few within your budget. I know others are better updated than I am.
 11. OK then, here's a Brazilian Shorthair after having received mentioned Close Shave. Dunno why you need pics of it, but there you are. 12. I liked that a lot, but it will never become a fave despite the rather lovely accompaniment, due to the conservative melody and Bowie showing litte sign of being able to pull this off. He totally lacks authority in my ears, and seems a follower of the band, not a soloist. Still like it.
 13. Seeing as October 10th marks the day in 1969 that both "Hot Rats" and "In the Court of the Crimson King" were released, I've been playing them: and http://youtu.be/-q85...RUhKMHxt2Sz5h-9 Good day.
 14.
Wasn't there a westone that came with two necks back in the late 80s ?
Yes, indeed there was. Thanks for reminding me. It came (or could come, Idunno) with a case that had a neat space for the extra neck. I think this must have been no later than 1986, probably before, as it was in a mag I subscribed to until '85/'86. Must still have that mag somewhere.
 15. SmallDawg, the trick with AmpKit is to wait for their special offers. IMS these amps can often be had for one fourth of the price or so.
 16.
How did you know about the quattro, although I do like the XC70.
Ask Roland Rock himself! I only knew about the Tritto.
 17.
and it is red!
Sigh. Took you quite some time to get down to the essence! That CVD sounds like genius. The damping factor is sooo important. Thanks for the heads up, and best wishes for the operation!
 18. Personally, I'd prefer a second hand combo with aux in and headphones out, as I dislike being forced to always use headphones. As for the linked solutions, I've tried the Vox Amplug and strongly disliked it for its lacking sound quality, but many on here love it and say its sound is good. The iRig is loved by some, disliked by others. Dunno why, but a search should help. I use an iRiffPort into my iPad using the 30 pin Apple dock connector (because back then there was an article explaining how much better the sound was from that way of doing it), and I love it. One must be sure the dock plug is safe though, either by being careful or for example by mounting the i-machine onto a base plate that sticks out where the pluck is connected. There are enough amp apps that are free or cheap and that come with some free effects of the in-app-purchase type. Personally, I use AmpKit+, and am very satisfied with it, but reportedly there are better ones out there. BTW, if you do happen to have an Apple phone or pad already, you can still plug that into a combo and still get the app's effects that way, but this solution would be above budget as you'd need the iRiffPort or similar in addition to the combo. Edit: I originally stated I use the iRig. It appears I use the iRiffPort. Sorry!
 19. C'mon! How can he write here with his fingers all over and inside Aurora?
 20.
Cruise ship gig = two reasons for throwing up.
Ya know, I have friends who went on that cruise... ...at least I thought they were friends...
 21.
Quattro
Dunno about that. The XC70 is cheaper, and...
 22. One technically well-informed person (don't remember who and don't remember which thread, but you might try a search or three) explained that in principle, given the right components and design, and amp could well deliver 500 W to that 8 Ohm load. However, reality being reality and budgets being budgets, in this case of Ashdown it's not unreasonable to expect that it might deliver something like two thirds of that into 8 Ohm. To be able to be precise, one must either have the data sheet from Ashdown, or calculate through the amp design. As to what two cabs will do, enormous amounts of text have been written about that on these boards, so I'd advise a search or four. The skinny is: yes! (presuming that with "another" cab you do mean "connecting an additional" one, and not "using a different" one). Me, I'm not a tech, but my feeling is two cabs are more effective than one, for different reasons, and that given the same total volume, they will give a sound more true to the intentions of the amp. I may be corrected on this.
