1. Must dig deep for that one: simply the t-shirts with only the classic Yes logo in blueish and whiteish with a red line around, as they were sold in the early seventies, during the Tales and Relayer tours. Edit: something like this: Oh, and also something like this, but without the text, making it a lot more beautiful. They sold them during a European tour at the time Draconian Times was released. '96 or so? Had great quality, so I wore it for years and years Funnily even my old mother-in-law thought it was beautiful. I never explained her the picture though. 2. Hey BijouDrains, and welcome! Ah, the Jerry Jones! Adviced by another BC'er I almost got to buy one last year, and now my GAS knob is turned fully to the right again. Anyway, enjoy BC! bert
3. C'mon guys! Take it inside!
4. How decent must the cutaway be? Totally free 24th fret? Or is it enough if it resembles the TRB 6's?
5. Doesn't add up, and quite annoyingly so, and that's even when taking into consideration an ad has to be short. "Cocky young 'uns with lack of experience, overselling themselves" is what I read from this. They probably perform at all the major festivals like the Milwaukee Conservative Christian Up Tempo Festival, and most probably also the Milwaukee Reformed/Baptist Union Complex C&W (Christian & W*nker, that is) Festival. Boy, I do not like current white middle class culture in the US much, do I?
6. Hey Fisheth, and welcome! Enjoy this place then. It ain't too bad. best, bert
7. Hey Pixiechick, and welcome! By large, BC is filled to the rim with bass players, returning bass players after long hiati (don't give a demn if that is correct - it's just so cool), and very old, very bald and very fat noobs. (Sadly I'm of the last type, but I do have a cool story: when studying classical music (composition and pipe organ in my case) many, many decades ago, my teacher asked whether I also had any albums with non-organ music, as he meant this was very important for the blah blah and the blah blah. I had to admit I had no organ music albums at all, but did have a lot of bass guitar albums. ) Anyway, enjoy the site and its banter. It looks as if you're nestling snuggly already. best, bert
8. Hi Steve, That's correct. I can see you from my living room window, and am waving right now. Welcome, and enjoy! bert
9. ... and thanks for the inspiration. I now know what to say.
10. I like deep flurries of notes and deep flurries of notes. Other than that: subscribed!
11. You know, fewer people assumedly are interested in Gene Simmons basses than in helping you get one for cheap, so it might be an idea to change your thread title to something more specific, like "Where can I get a Gene Simmons bass cheap?" It's called "help us to help you", and yes, I know I'm a miserable, grumpy, stuck-up bastard for trying to help you to help us to help you.
12. Welcome, Mark! Hehehe. Nice story. Don't batter the mistress now! Enjoy BC! best, bert
13. Hey, Blue, and welcome! Nice intro you wrote. I hope you'll thrive on this here side of the pond. best, bert
14.
I don't see he's been at all dishonest (in fact quite the contrary) [...] I'm just seeing this becoming yet another trial by Basschat witch hunt
Personally, I do feel the "new, other" and "I bought this 6 months ago or so" bass in reality being a used, 11 months old bass is at least stretching matters, and not really completely honest. He obviously did not want to sell a 1 year old, used bass, and willingly opted for the vague version. He probably does not deserve a witch hunt, but wasn't exactly behaving stellarly either. BTW, I see no witch hunt yet, but yes, we may be heading in that direction if we're not careful.
15. Hm. I wonder how much he was expecting. A bass like this costs £600 incl. shipping, possible duties, VAT and costs. When selling on FeeBay, can one expect more than half that amount before shipping etc.?
16. Yup, had the same great experience as Beedster had, Gary coming to the rescue when I needed my bass tuned. First port of call!
17. Welcome, bass player 92 (or 30,092 for that matter). Enjoy the forum! Bert
18. Does it look beautiful? NOOOO Does it look refined? Er... are you sure you seriously want to ask that question? Does it have something going for it? Yes Does it look cool? Yeah, in the right circumstances it would, I guess. Would I play it live? Yes, I surely would. Does it look good though, as per the OP's question? Nah. A no from me.
19. SVT 210AV seems like a natural choice, and was well received, but is sadly way over your budget as well. For below £100, I'd choose Beta Aivin (= Beta Three = Harley Benton = RedSub = White Horse) straight. Got three of them, and they all seem awesome for the money
20. Yup, without having read it, it does seem like a nice article to me as well, by the looks of it. Do notice how he does state -6 to -10 dB, and then continues using -6 dB, but stating "at least". This is in line with what our physics teacher taught us. x W --> y dB 2x W --> (y+3) dB 4x W --> (y+6) dB 8x W --> (y+9) dB roughly 10x W --> (y+10) dB. I'm too lazy to pull out my calculator and find the exact numbers, but this is where the "you need 10 times the wattage" comes from. In the real world however, people tend to react strongly to perceived loudness, and loudness has a lot to do with linearity (or rather lack thereof) and compression (before even speaking about distortion), so this stuff always takes long texts before everything is worded nicely and correct. Me personally, I can't do it in English at all, and it's long since I could do it in my mother tongue, Dutch. I hope this still helps though.
21. Dunno if this helps, but not every shop or shop assistant is aware of a certain rule in their contract with Music Man that allows them to sell an unsold instrument abroad after two years. I got two or three Music Man basses that were exported using that rule, and the rule was mentioned to me by Music Man themselves. As to mail forwarding, this is getting more and more common, and one just needs to find the right forwarder.Sorry I can't be of help in that respect. Generally however, more and more of the mentioned contracts include mail forwarders as forbidden addresses.
22.
Is there anyone that may talk me about the models mentioned above?
Give it some time, mate. Things will turn towards helping you. They always do. Remember when you posted the question. It's not a week ago...
23. "Volume" is about what the human ear experiences, and for a doubling of that experienced volume, it has been established that one needs roughly 10 times the Wattage. IOW, doubling the volume is not the same as doubling the amplitude. BTW it's not the same as experienced "loudness" either. I've seen that "four times the wattage" thing too, and would initially guess that one to be about sound pressure or similar - as sound pressure is measurable and quantifiable. Dunno though. I recently tried to find out about all the terms we'd been taught in secondary school, and that was hard, in part because of too loose use of terms as well as litteral translations into other languages introducing errors.
24. Welcome, Golden Sonic! Don't do it though. Chances are you'll love it and end up playing b*ss and discussing b*ss on B*ssChat like the rest of us sorry lot. (I know these things. Bought a cheapo on a friday just to punch in a few bass tones in keys recordings, and exchanged it for a real one the monday after.) Good luck with the search! bert
25. Hej, och välkommen, Martin! Hoppas du gillar vårt forum, och att det kan bliva ditt också. I'm with you on the Belgian beer! Luvverly stuff - from The Eleventh Commandment to Sudden Death to The Devil - - and everything inbetween. But you're called Martin, eh? We already have a Martin, so I'll have to call you Little Milton (Sorry, mate. Harmless little inside joke.) Anyway, enjoy! Bert (not one of the Scandinavians Dad is talking about)
