Wonderful how the Off Topic and Gear sections.. er.. come together. Or do they? Joking aside, I now gather that you are not British and do not live in Britland? Let's assume US dollars and say $700 is like 400 Bitish pounds. I think a quite safe bet is that you need a 300W or more, quite modern sounding head. There's one problem, IMHO, which is that the choice of head depends largely on the cab it is to drive, or at least should depend on it. But if we can assume the 112 cab is fairly easy to drive (can you find out how many dB it will give for 1W?), then you could buy a tiny Class D head with many knobs and switches, like a TC, an Ashdown MiBass, a Beta Aivin (aka RedSub aka Harley Benton, aka Ibanez Promethean) 250 or 500W, maybe an EA Micro or a used Genz Benz Shuttle, and there are many more that I can't remember right now. The larger TC BH500 might also be possible. I feel it's a rock machine, but it seems very flexible, and might serve you well. If you can stretch the budget a little, you might be able to find a used one of the magnificent Genz Benz GBE 750. It's magnificent only because I bought one. That's all I can think of for now. Must sleep.

Why do people get so upset? its only the internet
Agreed... But that is where 51% of the problem lies. People who think in the "bet you wouldn't be so brave if we were......" frame of mind contribute greatly to a lot of the tension in these situations. That mentality proposes or suggests violence as a solution and gets peoples backs up.
Beautifully spoken, I think. In this, there's not only the violence referencing frame-of-mind, but also the aspect of the adversary almost not being able to prove otherwise, and left unable to defend himself/herself against the accusation. Therefore, the "bet you wouldn't..." construction in its essence is also potentially the tool of the coward. It's not necessarily only the other way round. IMHO of course. -
With your playing technique and the basses you use, for your budget, I'd say get the Vanderkley Aurora, but it does also depend on what music styles you prefer. Seriously though: is the TC BG250-208 the one you lust for, or the one that is within your budget, or? To be able to help better, we do really need you to volunteer more info, not the least of which is your budget and whther you want an amplifier, a speaker cabinet or both combined in a combo. Up to now it looks like you want a combo, which is perfectly OK, but just be aware that separates are more flexible if you want to exchange or test something, and can be a lot more handy when something goes wrong and you need to borrow something.
i just discovered this
Wow! Someone knows about Hildegunn Gjedrem! She was on TV here some time ago, but no-one knows of her. I seem to remember she lives in America but is Norwegian. The voice control and rhythm sense somehow reminded me of Cassandra Wilson, though she resembles Des'ree more in style, by the first look of it. Good call! -
Is last night's audience of one a record?
BassTractor replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Yup, played to a zero audience once and to only a caretaker once or twice. Once, the concert was announced and posters were spread, but no-one turned up. So I asked the caretaker whether he wanted to go home right away or whether we should wait a little, but he said he would like me to play, as he had stuff to do, and I'd provide a nice backing for that. I think he probably said that mostly coz he felt sorry for me. Mind ya, I really deserved that no-one turned up. Twas a classical pipe organ concert fer cryin' out loud! Another time, I was totally on my own, but played as long as the caretaker allowed me, coz it was possibly the best pipe organ in Holland, and just having gained access to it was a breeze. Happily, it was after midnight before I had to pack down - quite extraordinary for a classical "concert". -

IMHO, the RedSub (White Horse) sounds much better than the Cube, but sadly it seems built with more crappy components. I had this thought: how about if part of your experience is about the 210 working at half the excursion compared to a 110, thus at this low volume reducing the resolution of the signal? Dunno, but sounds logic to me as to the physics involved, and seems to fit with experience.

Lightning caused damage on TC. What value does VDR have?
BassTractor replied to BassTractor's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks, Bill, but this guy has already spent hours searching. Should've mentioned that, but it escaped my mind. -

Lightning caused damage on TC. What value does VDR have?
BassTractor posted a topic in Amps and Cabs
A guy had damage in several bits of gear (an expensive SVT was among them. Ouch!) after a storm with lightning whilst he was away. His TC BG250 had the VDR (protection resistor) blown up, but he tried bypassing it for testing, and yes: the amp still works. Now he wants to put in a new VDR, but can't find its value. Anyone in the know, can find out quickly or help us to find out? On the printboard, it's R4 (no value info on the board). The guy tried TC, but it's friday evening... Thanks! Bert -
Those Tyler headstocks are pretty abominable. The Bongo headstock & the G&L ones with the stupidly impractical pointy/wavy bit would be on my list too.
+1, especially the 6-string Bongo. Still want one though. Unless you need the extra knobs of the 112, the 208 seems like the necessary choice as long as its the only one they make with the speaker ourput. Sfar as I remember, all the other ones come with the many knobs amp, and only the 208 comes with the trimmed down version, but I may remember incorrectly.

That sounds like a good outcome. Congrats for now!

Nice stuff. How did you find out, Hiram? Just remembered it? I liked this recurring drummer on the bass drum. What a lovely idea! So what one needs live is some sensors on the drummer, some electronics and a projector. I'd do that! Mother of pearl dot inlays and shipping
BassTractor replied to rogerstodge's topic in General Discussion
The way I read it is that they take that $180 fee on top of the federal fees, and I hope I'm wrong but they also do not say that that includes the federal fee. Maybe best to make sure before reaching a decision. -
@ Betafunk - Why has this thread had much more interest than one about Jaco's new video? Well, from my perspective, although I own and occasionally enjoy Weather Report/Jaco music, I have limited interest in exploring bootlegs/previously unrealeased material. However, I've found this thread interesting as it raises some issues around forum etiquette/psychology. It highlights the variety of what people are thinking when they post, and I've found it a useful avenue of getting to know others in this community that bit more. I know enough about Basschat that some members won't give a sh*t about that, but that knowledge in itself is useful for knowing who to engage with on certain topic, and how to go about it.
+ <high number> This is what I could not express, expressed a lot better than I could've expressed it if I could've expressed it. BTW, I do not understand the meaning of BetaFunk's last sentence, but hope it just means he's staying away from this topic, and not staying away from BC. This is the second time I have to say this in few hours, but to me it seems BetaFunk is an asset to BC, and I hope he stays. -
Rich, you have just cost me fifty quid. Thanks for that very helpful post. Twas what I needed to read.
