1. Well I'm getting the Kappa's reconed & the Gamma's are already in a 2x10 cab (& actually sound pretty good by themselves) .. that cab might be going so I'm already looking at other speakers .. ideally would wanna mix with the Kappa's but not essential .. any recommendations ? Don't really wanna buy a new cab to go with my Warwick head (unless I manage to sell my Bongo) .. really like the Berg NV610 (but not the price ! lol) So .. if you had an empty 4x10 cab .. what speakers would you put in ? combined with 2 x Celestion BN10-300x perhaps ? http://professional.celestion.com/bass/green/index.asp cheers Simon
 2. Looking to put 4 speakers in an empty cab .. 2 x Eminence Kappa Pro 10A (500w) & 2 x Eminence Gamma 10A (300w) all are 8Ohm thinking of wiring 1 Kappa to 1 Gamma (series = 16Ohm) (2x) then wiring in parallel to go back to 8Ohm .. (powered by Warwick Tubepath 10.1 1000w @ 4Ohm) apart from obvious wattage difference is there any reason why I can't / shouldn't do this ? cheers Simon
 3.
Chris bought a pedal from me at the Bass Bash on Sunday and let me play on his big Marshall valve amp too. Top bloke and clearly a bit of a gear enthusiast!
Bought a pedal off me too & also played VBA & a really nice stingray .. had only tried a 'sub' b4 .. bet you look after all your gear ! cheers Simon ps. thanks for the strings too .. & thanks from my mate for the flats !!
 4. Cheers Ray .. paid straight away .. no messing about ! Si
 5. It still is an Ibanez ! .. only thing I added (hand made by me ! lol) are the ali control plates on the back, partly cos I sanded off so much to get to bare wood that the original plates are now too thick ! rest is all original cept blend pot & input jack that need replacing .. hardware I used wet n dry to remove the gold & stubborn copper layer to get to bare metal .. took forever but now it's done I'm well pleased .. had this bass up for sale a while back but think I'll keep cos it was the 1st decent one I bought bout 5 yrs ago but am more inclined to passive, so might not use for gigs .. we'll see .. like just looking at it ! Black stain & clear wax .. gonna do 2 other basses the same cos I love the feel & look of wax .. Next project already under way .. will post some pics soon thanks for the comments guys ! Si
 6. After hours of sanding / wet n drying it's finally finished (bar some more wax coats) and really pleased .. actually blacker than on some pics & def better in the flesh ! so what do ya think ? Si
 7.
Paulman !!! Grumpy old sod but I've seen a lot of his work and it's very good. Even one of his reliced Precisions. In fact it seems odd to me that he'd ask for pics etc. Would have thought he'd have everything he needs. Whatever - tell him if he wants to come photograph/copy my 73 P body he's welcome as long as he makes me one. I could take a copy of my own bass around then , be good.
I'll tell him you said that ! lol .. he's ok if a little grumpy ha ha .. he does sort of have everything I guess but he asked me for pics I think it's more to do with how they've aged / faded / cracked etc .. I'll mention your P bass (will he know you as Dr Dave ?) .. he's a doing a few 'relic'd' at the moment & a new neck for my Warmoth jazz .. neck of that is going on a jazz I got of ebay .. was a link to it a few weeks ago & looks really beaten up but underneath it's a nice piece of alder, that's going to be my new GL with Warmoth neck (Fender GL with headstock repair Paul did is up for sale at mo) thanks for the response guys & 'wateroftyne' .. nice collection !! he's not really into computers but I'm sure he'll be able to follow the links .... Simon
 8. Bass (guitar) luthier I know (& use) has recently made a few P basses & asked me if I knew of any sites with vintage (original) Fenders ? Pretty sure some of you will have original Fenders and/or know of some sites with good pics. He wants some examples of proper ageing etc .. can also be of Fender guitars. you can check his site but I don't think he updates it much but I do recommend him .. he's been building/repairing 40 odd years ! http://www.paulman.co.uk/ cheers Simon
 9.
when you say set of quarterpounders do you mean a jazz set or a p-j set? cheers, barry
sorry .. SD QP's are jazz set ! Si
 10.
I know it's not on the trades list, but how about a Bongo 5HS ? P.
Sorry Paul, got too many basses as is & also don't play 5 strings .. thanks any way. Simon
 11. Hi all, - Fender Geddy Lee jazz bass (ss scratchplate) was changing tuners (black Wilkinson's) & had a slight accident .. got a nasty dent & split headstock ! (well not totally but enough), it's been repaired by a pro luthier I know & he guarantees it wont break 'there' again ! He did a complete headstock break on my bro Les Paul & he's had no problems with it what so ever. price ? was getting offers @ £450 before ... ? Got some 'before' pics .. will take some 'after' ones asap Would rather anyone interested come & check it out beforehand & don't really want to post (without) a case .. I do have a SKB case but cost me £70 & would only have to order another which I'd rather not do. - MM Bongo 4HS Stealth .. absolutely immaculate ! (MM case incl) £850 plus a few other bits n bobs .... - tuners of GL ofcourse - sold - Boss Flanger BF-3 - Fender noiseless jazz pups (4 string set) - Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders (4 string jazz set) - 2 x 10 cab (eminence gamma 300w 8Ohm speaker) 4Ohms wired parallel or trade 2 x 10 8Ohm similar speakers (or better !) Only trades really considered would be for 'quality' (light weight ?) cabs .. 4x10 8Ohm or 4Ohm preferably (something suitable to use with Warwick Tubepath 1000w 4Ohm head) if wanting to trade with GL I'd add cash for right cab or with Bongo I'd accept cash etc .. Epifani, Dr Bass, PJB, Bergantino, something like that .. already got a 4Ohm 600w 2x10 that sounds pretty good ! any questions just PM me, cheers Si
 12.
Hi Si, apologies for taking a little while to respond to you. Have you seen Rush live, and if so what did you think of them? I saw them at Newcastle Arena for 'Snakes and Arrows' and thought they were fantastic as usual. (Also saw them in Brum for R30 and Hold Your Fire way before that) Which PJB amp do you use, and what do you think of that? I was trying my Jazz (in active mode) through my 'Suitcase' and got some tasty Geddy Lee sounds with a few tweeks of the EQ. Steve
Sorry for the late response .. actually left the Hallam FM (Snakes & Arrows tour) early .. was quite disappointed .. couldn't see a thing (cept large screen) & thought the sound was poor ! Thought R30 in MEN was much better & 'Hold Your Fire' tour Ahoy (Rotterdam) late 80's was awsome ! Still my fav band tho (well 2nd after my own stuff ! lol) PJB sixpak + 9B Si
 13.
The Big Singles are my favorite Nordstrand pickups. I've been meaning to change the EMG's out of the Black Valenti for a set of big Singles but I've been busy building basses for others. I had them in this bass (man I regret selling this bass) and, IMO, it was everything a single coil J pickup is but more greatness.....
Me & my big mouth ! .. now you've gone & done it Nino .. why did you have to show me a GL with BS's ! lol Got a Geddy & liked it so much (esp the neck) .. put a Warmoth together with shaved down neck .. but if the BS's are truly that good I'll have to 'chop' the Warmoth ! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry213621 Suppose I could collect stamps instead ! ... helps not having wife n kids ! cheers Si
 14. Bet a few of us on here have been 'drooling' over some of your (art) work ! lol ... seriously tho, really nice basses ! Nino, I noticed you use Nordstrand pups .. I've ordered some Big Singles for a project I'm doing (modifying not actually building) .. I believe you have used them too what do you think .. what can I expect ? cheers Simon
 15.
I'm a big fan of Doug Wimbish (especially with Living Colour) and I had considered a DWB3 but as you say they are a bit bling and I couldn't live with an orange bass! I've gone all passive recently having sold my Status on. I just find it easier to get good sounds from passive electronics.
I know exactly what you mean (regarding both) .. never really liked the orange or gold hardware (will post a pic when finished, just glad I didn't sell it, nicely put together, don't care if it is Korean built, wood is great) & not sure about 'active' tho Bongo seems a bit special. Only got 1 LC cd (somewhere buried on 20years of other cds) but Doug is a great player ! Si ps. like the 'jazz' quote .... lol
 16.
Nice collection indeed. Is the Ibanez a Doug Wimbish sig?
Yep ... well it was ! Has taken me ages to sand it down (all by hand) not quite finished .. decided to wet n dry gold hardware, even harder to do ! Not into 'bling' .. guess it's just time & effort. Could've just bought new bridge / tuners .. will do next time (if ever). Will post EMG set for sale soon, also got other pups that need new bodies ! You have a DWB3 ? Nice slim necks (like SR basses), I used to play guitar so I favour these type .. might actually become a bass player some day ! Got all the gear & only a bit of idea ! lol Si
 17. Anyone interested in swapping their 2U for a 4U case ? This Gator has a bit of damage but still closes ok (just use the rear as front) Si
 18. Got quite a collection .. thought I'd post some pics etc Got Steinberger as backup (great for home practice cos you just prop in any where) .. sounds pretty good, not usually a 'active' fan. Most recent acquisition is the Bongo HS .. thought Steiny sounded good but Bongo blows it away ! Only 2 'bad' things regarding Bongo tho .. matt finish scuffs easy .. maybe not bad cos you'll tend to clean it more often ! Haven't tested / compared thoroughly enough next to 'passive' basses .. just hope it doesn't sound too good & make em redundant ! Might have to get rid of the rest or Bongo & no longer have the choice ! luxury decision I guess .. lucky to have so many nice ones to choose from. Ibanez being stripped & made passive (Nordstrand Big Singles & HAS-sound controls) .. will post pics when finished. Si ps. taking Bongo to Yorkshire bash if anyone wants to try it out !
 19. 1 mate wants to come along & maybe another, so I wont come on my bike & will bring Bongo HS so folk can have a go if they want. Si
 20.
Hello I'm after the musicman sound but having played a couple of stingrays and a sterling I couldn't get comfortable with either of them and I can't quite put my finger on why. Seeing as I love jazz basses I hatched a plan to try and get my hands on a jazz style body routed for MM pickup. So far I've found that Warmoth can do it but I'm not a huge fan of ordering from the states. Has anyone on here orfered from Warmoth before...? Alternatively is there anywhere I can get it done in the UK...? Cheers Will
I've ordered from Warmoth .. great products but had to pay import tax etc .... however I know someone who has a MM Sub bass body (single HB routing), Can ask him if you like (said he was gonna maybe make a little table out of it) ? Si
 21.
post a link...much easier
I refer to our stuff as 'heavy rock' but many others call it 'metal' ... we do whatever we want I guess ... judge for yourselves. http://www.myspace.com/orchidrockband Si
 22. Had this one in my hands earlier today .. definitely a nice jazz, didn't plug it in but still .. not sure if I'm gonna bid myself (got 2 jazzes already) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=tab%3DWatching He also had a 30 year old Stingray .. nice & battered/used looking (in a good way) .. bet he doesn't sell that one ! Guys name is James (really nice fella) .. told him about basschat, so you might see some more Signatures (got 2 more). Si
 23. I use a 6pack & 9B .. hifi quality .. and do actually play heavy rock (metal I suppose) but not distorted (don't really class myself as a bassist (yet) used to play guitar). I love this stuff but I guess it's a bit unorthodox (5" speakers), no problem getting 'bass' tones though. I've had & played a few other rigs (maybe not all pro) but found a lot of them to be too muddy/boomy .. tight n punchy is more what I'm after but I'm still reasonably new to all of this. Some sound guys have complimented my rig (makes their job easier I guess) but as I was on stage I'm not sure how it sounded to the punters (had no bad comments .. well at least not about my 'sound' lol) Two amp specialists commented - 1 said it was a nice bit of kit (M500), well put together but was unfamiliar with PJB & another who knows PJB stuff thought it was all military grade (which can't be bad). Don't think many people use PJB .. personally I like clarity .. might even add another 9B if I can find one cheap enough. Great customer service as well .. Phil answers emails personally .. if I could buy it all again I'd probably go for the M500 head and 2x9B cabs or maybe the new neo ones. Portability was also an issue at the time. Best to try as many rigs as possible but doing this in shops is not always a real reflection of what they're gonna sound like in a proper band mix. Also, if you see a band & like the bass sound it could be the next time you see them the bass doesn't sound as good .. even with the same rig/setup .. either way, if you get the chance, ask the bassist about his setup etc .. most will probably like talking about it. I guess it's a never ending quest searching for that ultimate tone ..... and I thought guitar player were bad ! Read all the reviews you like (Harmony-Central / BGRA / Basschat / Talkbass etc) but they are only a guide. If you see anything you like 2nd hand & it's fairly cheap .. might be worth buying but if you're going for the 'high end' gear I'd rather buy new with warranty. If you're anywhere near Bradford you can come & have a go on mine ! Simon
 24.
Hey everyone, a bass playing mate of mine suggested posting here and I've seen a few ads for drummers so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm looking to join a band (covers but will consider originals too) to have some fun and gig fairly regularly. I like rock - Pearl Jam, Led Zep, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Nirvana, the Foos, Queens of the Stone Age.....and on and on - but I also like to play blues, funk, soul.....basically any cracking songs that'll get people going! I'm 32, have been playing for about 3 and a half years and am grade 5 standard (not that that matters particularly, I'm just trying to give an idea of my ability). I was in a covers band for a couple of years so I have played in front of real people. I think I have a good ear and usually pick stuff up pretty quickly, I'm reliable and will put the effort in, and I have a car so I can get my kit wherever it needs to be. If it sounds like I might be what you're looking for it would be great to hear from you! Cheers!
PM'd
 25.
Nice one, how long was delivery?
Order was put in on 29th April .. say about 10 days. Si
