Just received a package from US .. was hoping to avoid import duty & VAT ... and did !! Description 'music accessory' with a value of $20. Inside was the following - - 2 sets DR Strings Fat Beams Medium Bass strings - 2 sets D'Addario EPS165 ProSteels Bass strings - 2 sets D'Addario EXL165 Electric Bass strings - 2 sets D'Addario ESXL170 Double Ball End Bass strings - 2 sets Rotosound RS55LD Electric Bass strings - 1 set Rotosound RS77LD Monel Flatwound Electric Bass strings I also wrote the following to them, didn't get a reply but thought I'd chance it anyway ... 'have added an extra set but reckon this wont affect the shipping cost of $21 .. will shortly use 'buy it now' & await an invoice as stated. I realize I might have to pay import duty & UK vat but ask (if possible) if you could mark the package as 'gift or spare part' & possibly list the value lower ? (guitarpartsresource recently did this on a badass bridge for me & I paid nothing extra !) .. if I get away with it I'll post on basschat.co.uk forum ! If however this is against your policy .. I understand.' Invoice $232.94 shipping $21 (combined) Total $253.94 £129 !!!! Hope Mr. Taxman's not a bass player on this forum !! Can't guarantee you'll get away with it but I calculated that even if you don't they're still cheaper than UK prices but I'm sure some of you know places to get em too ! I've dealt with Thomann quite a lot & the only thing you must do is keep the original packaging ! For at least 30 days. They offer 30-day money back guarantee .. was at one point gonna send cab back but had binned the packaging .. it would have cost me £40 ! This doesn't apply for 'faulty' items btw .. if it's broken or faulty you don't need the original packaging & they arrange a courier & doesn't cost anything ! Si

Hi there, I'm a RUSH fan & use Phil Jones !! welcome Si
I've often wondered if the Badass is not another Basschat bandwagon that everyone jumps on. Ok the choices are limited for direct replacement without drilling new holes, but if Badass are so great, how come all the UK's custom builders dont use them.
Good point .. I was thinking the same about custom builders .. seem to go for Hipshot ! I'm after a new (string thru) bridge ... looking at Hipshot A &/or Badass III ? Anyone got a Hipshot Transtone ... any good ?
Or buy one for cheaper from Coda! http://www.coda-music.com/catalog/product_...d05806c4686529a
If they don't charge for shipping I guess I could've saved £50 .. no matter, done now & am really pleased with it !

Just thought I'd post this thread cos I received mine today & I'm well impressed ! Was on the lookout for Hohner & had the chance to try a 'spirit' out earlier this week which I guess is similar if not a little inferior but was not convinced (apart from the price £199 ex p&p) .. anyway, I found a real Steinberger, new 4 string synapse model & couldn't resist ! 'spirit' = conference league 'synapse' = premier I'm no expert but think it's real quality .. have a rad of this email response from 'absolutemusicsolutions' "Hi Simon Robin is away playing until Monday ..you might be interested to know we had the only 2 of those basses the distributor had and they will not ever see any more and advised me to retail them at £699 each so I think you got a bargain and I am pleased to hear you love it ..enjoy..Terry On 25 Jan 2008, at 13:28, Simon Whittle wrote: Hi Robin, Received the Steinberger today .. really pleased, lovely bass .. real quality ! .. unless it explodes or implodes in next few days you shall not be getting it back ! lol Regards Simon" Just checked and they still have the other .. here's the link (btw £495 incl p&p) http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/shop/view_p...RGER&page=1 If someone on here buys this & likes it ... they can buy us a pint sometime ! good luck Si

Have a look a Ibanez DWB3 .. same sort of specs .. will be putting mine up for sale soon along with Geddy Lee jazz (need to take pics 1st)
-
NOTE: couldn't find a bridge anywhere for project, so have opted for the real thing instead ! thanks for all your advice ! Si
-
Well I just tried a Spirit out .. not bad at all (for £200) but found myself playing everything 2-3 frets higher than normal ! .. I might actually sound good (or at least experimental) if I ever have to use one as a backup ... so looks like I might have to 'sort of' make my own 'frankenstein' .. with a shorter neck ... so can anyone advise where I can get a 'locking nut' from and more importantly .. a 'steinberger bridge' (4 string) .. will add post on 'items wanted' .. any spare necks lying around with broken headstocks ? .. spare wood for 'body' etc It's a bit of a long shot but might make a nice project .. only for backup & messing around with at home etc

Have bought loads of stuff from Thomann ... - are by far the cheapest on almost everything (just do usual internet research/comparision) - the price you see is what you pay .. no tax (vat or import) - 30 dat money back guarantee (was gonna return on a cab but didn't keep original packaging, they will charge if you don't !) - 3 year warranty (sent faulty amp back, they pay for collection/return & don't need original packaging ! but I'd still wait 30 days before you bin it !) negative side .. probably putting UK retailers out of business ! I guess most of us on here are 'amateur' as in non-signed .. we all want the best (cheapest) price before we part with our hard earned cash ! Signed / endorsed artists probably get most of it for free ! Bass player I know (signed band) got given a £1600 Warwick .. never used it .. sold it for £900 but is mentioned on Warwick's website under 'artists' .. bet he hasn't bought any strings for 20 years either !
