  1. I try to get all the levels right during soundcheck. We do have a digital desk though and I have individual tablet control over my entire mix.
  2. This is the one I have and recommend: https://www.designacable.com/stereo-3-5mm-mini-jack-to-mono-female-xlr-cable.html
  3. I'm selling this beautiful five-string StingRay Classic Ray25CA, from Sterling by Music Man. (Sale only, no trades.) Some specs: Body Wood: Mahogany Scale Length: 34" Neck Radius: 12" Nut: 1.77" (45mm) Full specs are here: https://intl.sterlingbymusicman.com/collections/stingray-ray24-25ca/products/ray25-ca?variant=31853459406920 There is one modification. The pickup is wired in series by default, which sounds good but is not the traditional wiring for a StingRay. It's now been rewired in parallel and I feel it's a lot better - the two-band preamp gives the classic sound and both EQ knobs are much more responsive across their full range. Weight is 4.3kg (9lb 8oz). £325 collected from Bristol, or £345 posted within the UK. I also travel around for gigs - over the next few weeks I'll be back and forth along the M4 Bristol to London, up the M5 to Birmingham, and down to Brighton - so could possibly meet for a handover.
  4. Sold something to Frank and it all went smoothly. Highly recommended. Thanks!
  5. Ibanez Bass Workshop BWS90 strap Comfy padded strap. Width is 90mm (3.5") and length is adjustable from 102cm (40") to 125cm (49"). Full details: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/bws90_01.html £12 posted.
  6. Truetone 1 SPOT power supply 9V power supply, max 1700mA. 3m cable. Full details: https://truetone.com/1-spot/ £16 posted.
  7. Probably a typo but it takes a 9V supply. Great preamp pedal! I was very happy with mine. GLWTS.
  8. Some people use hand signals for keys, so worth knowing: hand makes a C shape = key of C. a number of fingers pointing up = number of sharps (e.g. 1 finger = G) a number of fingers pointing down = number of flats (e.g. 2 fingers = Bb)
  9. With my Sandberg (a VM5, a beautifully made and great feeling instrument), I too wanted a warmer, vintage sound. It took a while, but I did get there in the end - here are the steps I took. First, I put on flatwound strings. It was better, but not quite right yet. So then I swapped the stock pickup for an Aguilar ("designed to capture the vibe and feel of the 60’s"). It was better, but not quite right yet. Then I removed the preamp and rewired it as passive. It was better, but not quite right yet. So I put it all back to stock, sold it, and bought a P bass...

  11. I also had an MB150 back in the day, and agree they do go relatively loud for their small size but that there are better options these days. But you only said '12" GK combo' - of which MB150 is just one. Gallien Krueger also make the MB 112, Fusion 112, and Legacy 112 (based on RB) combos. I had an MB 210 combo and RB head years ago, which were fine - but as you allude, not typically the first choice for upright. (I was doubling.) When RB is mentioned, I think of Flea! Although Dave Holland is also a GK endorser. Anyway - my MB combo was absolutely blown away by Barefaced. And since you're after more volume, I'd need convincing that the MB 112 was the way to go. Not sure about this idea mentioned that you need a physically smaller amp. I've used 8x10 on jazz quartet gigs without any boominess (it was turned down quite low). Actually it sounded great! If you're happy with Phil Jones but just need more volume, he makes larger ones than the Double Four. However the ultimate in flat amplification, which is what I use myself, is an active PA speaker. Additionally, it will be cheaper than PJ, and likely louder per kg. Look at RCF, Yamaha, QSC. You could use your Double Four into it as a preamp. But returning to your initial complaint of boominess - the very first thing to ask is have you tried a variable HPF? Essential piece of kit, whatever amplification comes after it.
  12. The Adonit is fine - I suppose though I'm using it only for pretty basic stuff (quick notes/corrections on scores - not writing large bodies of text). Never tried an Apple Pencil so can't compare. I'm no iOS fan - but I'd take it over Windows any day 😬
  13. Yes, iPads are very expensive. I don't really like them that much. But you don't need any processing power at all just to view PDFs - I recently got a vgc 1st gen 12.9" iPad Pro with good battery for £200, if something like that's an option? The huge screen is great. I use a passive Adonit stylus - I think it was about £20. If you're definitely going for the android - I happily used Mobile Sheets in my previous android days and it was fine. I much prefer android to ios but my hand was forced somewhat since we use the Mackie app (no android version) for our band mixing desk.
  14. I take a monitor mix from the desk without any bass in it, into the EBS aux in. The EBS sums that with my bass signal and sends that combination via its headphone amp to my IEMs. The advantage of this setup (rather than the typical way of running a monitor straight from the desk to my IEMs) is that the volume knob on the EBS controls the relative mix of my bass - so if I need more me, it's super easy to tweak. Critically, the EBS DI output level isn't affected by the volume knob.
  15. Yep, tried and tested on upright and electric. Line-ups range from quintet to 27-piece, and we're playing a mixture of clubs, wedding venues, and concert halls. Sometimes I'm on in-ears (in which case, monitor feed input and IEM output both go via the EBS), or if not, I use one or two Yamaha DXR10 speakers. Other than not having a tuner, the EBS does everything I need it to, and does it well, with nothing extraneous - it's really simplified my doubling setup. Great connectivity and sensible layout makes it intuitive to tweak. 10/10 👍
  16. Sorry, I'm not sure what I was thinking - £37.27 (as per @Paolo85) is of course less than £59.99! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dunlop-DBFS45105-Flatwound-Strings-Medium/dp/B01C2T8V0W/ref=asc_df_B01C2T8V0W/
  17. I try to avoid Bass Direct, if at all possible. This is not one of those times 😬 https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Flat_wound_strings.html Dunlop 45-105, £59.99 Dunlop 45-125, £76.00
  18. Tolex is used only on Barefaced's 10" cabs. The 12" cabs have a "durable textured acrylic finish" (their description). Great cabs - GLWTS.
  19. Is this closer: https://www.brightonion.co.uk/dual-ab-switch/ - put your tuner in output B? Or if you want it without the loop, that would be just two basic AB boxes connected together. If it must be physically in one box, contact James at Bright Onion as I think he does customizations.
  20. If you put the output of any AB pedal into any pedal tuner, engaging the tuner will silence everything. Not directly answering the question - but just putting it out there: although an EBS MicroBass 3 or Stanley Clarke preamp are expensive, once I'd sold my other EQ pedals, DI box, HPF/overdrive/tuner, headphone amp, and AB pedal - all of which were no longer needed - I was close to breaking even.
  21. Have a look at DeWalt TSTAK or Stanley Pro-Stack (they're the same thing). They are modular cases/drawers/etc, so you can configure to get exactly what you need. (And if you have Markbass amps, the colour scheme will kind of match 😁)
