  1. I've had 7lb 11oz and 7lb 2oz P basses which didn't have neck dive. They too also had Ultralites.
  2. What are you recording - if it's your own band, can you record straight out of the desk?
  3. Yes - will an ATA carnet be needed? It was touched upon in another discussion the other day - https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/473203-any-spanish-brethren-who-could-help-out-a-uk-band-with-gear-loanhire-in-march
  4. Specs are one thing, but I found I never really know if something will be good enough other than playing it in real-life situations for a few months. I was using a 10" Yamaha DXR10 mkII for a year (in between owning the RCF 732-A and FBT ProMaxx 112A) and it performed really well; I was very happy with it. Just in a few situations it did not feel quite as effortless as a larger powered speaker does. I was tempted to keep it anyway for the gigs that I knew would be lower volume; but in the end I'm trying to take a more minimalist approach to owning (and storing) gear. The smaller and slimmer form factor of a 10" will always have an appeal - not only the weight saving, but close to half the geometric volume of a 12". Let us know if you get one!
  5. P bass & upright bass → EBS Stanley Clarke preamp → FBT ProMaxx 112A (normally as stage monitor, or as backline if there's no PA). I'm loving the FBT. I've never seen it mentioned by bass players (I searched the entire internet loads before buying it and found nothing). My previous 12" powered speaker was an RCF 732-A, and in a nutshell the FBT is comparable in price and performance, but at 80% of the weight - just 14.8kg.
  6. Why are you considering a MarkBass 102 cab when you already own the Barefaced Two10? The Barefaced is already smaller, lighter, and has less footprint than the MarkBass.

    Cat Burrito

I bought a book from @Cat Burrito and he posted at the post office literally within a few minutes of me paying, which is an unsurpassable level of service! Thanks Tim!
  8. Did they make a StingRay with 35" scale length?
  9. What were the five-string basses you've previously used, and in particular did they have bridge pickups? That could be another difference, perhaps.
  10. There is lot of reference so far to "an M80" as if it's a specific particular gig bag model. But my understanding is that M80 is a line of products. What I mean is that when I look at https://monocreators.com/pages/m80, they show the "M80 Stealth", the "M80 Vertigo", the "M80 Classic", and the "M80 Sleeve". So unless I've misunderstood something, all four are M80, yes? So when you say "I have an M80", which one do you mean?
  11. Can you do any of the following? Leave a rig at the practice space. Leave a rig at the drummer's place and get them to bring it, as presumably they are driving anyway. Share a rig with the guitarist and take turns to bring it; e.g. a 10" PA speaker with two inputs.
  12. I have no experience in this area, but I watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7DlM_Nc96U He is saying duplicate list is only of use at the UK border. I.e. you can use it to get out of and back into UK fine - but you still have the separate task of getting in and out of Spain... From HMRC's form: "You can only use the duplicate list procedure and form C&E1246 to help with the temporary export of goods and the subsequent return of the same goods to the UK. [...] A customs declaration must be completed and any financial security must be given which may be required by the country to which the exporter takes the goods."
  13. Cardboard box suitable for posting a bass. 45 x 14.5 x 128cm Collect from Bristol BS3. Update: Gone
  14. Yes, you use the returns as instrument inputs. It's one of their recommended setups:
  15. A Boss LS-2 would work well here, in A+B mode. Plus the other modes give you future options if you ever modify your setup or routing.
  16. I double all the time (mainly upright but occasionally synth) and I always send one DI signal. If a sound person asked for two, I'd send two - but that's never happened. Either way, get the levels right during soundcheck. You've got to trust the sound person - or at least accept that the FOH mix is out of your control. Tweaking levels (whether you're doubling or not) during the gig is a really bad idea as this will mess up the FOH mix. If you want autonomous monitor control, you'll need to split your signal at the DI box (they normally have a 'link' or 'through' output) and send that part directly into a stage monitor/amp. You can then tweak that part of the signal chain as much as you like as it's independent of FOH.
  17. UK insured postage now included in the price.
  18. I don't know exactly what amp or tuner you have - but if they have 1/4" jack sockets, then yes it is the correct type of cable.
  19. I'm selling three instrument cables, straight to angled. Designacable are top quality, completely dependable, and come highly recommended by many basschatters. I bought these new only in September but have since decided my setup works better with cables angled at both ends. https://www.designacable.com/unbalanced-mono-jack-to-jack-lead-black-van-damme-xke-cable-neutrik-straight-to-angled-plugs.html Van Damme XKE ("Pro Grade Classic XKE Instrument Cable") Unbalanced Guitar Lead Neutrik Straight to Angled Mono Jacks Green 3m = £14 posted SOLD Orange 3m = £14 posted SOLD Blue 1m = £11 posted SOLD
  20. Well, that's just too cryptic for me 😁 I've never played a Vanderkley but they're well regarded so that's high praise indeed.
  21. What was your previous cab that you keep comparing the Monaco to. Was it a Big Baby 3?
  22. They are 1.78oz (51g) - 2.01oz (57g).
  23. I also have this. Great cutter as mentioned - but if you don't already have a winder, you have to get one. They make changing strings so much easier!
  24. Thanks - sounds positive. I might need to send a couple of basses, so I'll bookmark them 👍
  25. Could I ask the same question, if that's ok - you had a bass get lost or damaged by Overland Express, and they paid out with a not-unreasonable claims process? I've gone through the ParcelForce claims process a couple of times (not basses), and it was a bit tedious. I mean... I understand that they have to defend against fraud, so fair enough. Lots of forms to fill in, both for me and the recipient. They did pay out in the end, about 40 days after item went missing.
