  1. I've used Secursus in the past but fortunately never needed to make a claim. I've since read there are issues getting them to pay out. Have you (or anyone else) experience of making a claim with them?
  2. I was interested in a bass @SumOne was selling and he kindly put it on hold for me for a few weeks until I was able to come and buy it. Really nice guy, great bass - thanks Ben.
  3. Maruszczyk Elwood.
  4. Not enough knobs/switches for a two-pickup instrument...?
  5. La Bella 760FL-B flatwound strings 45/65/85/105/128 5-string version of the classic flatwounds - bought new in July 2022 and have not had much use. Cut for 4+1 headstock. £40 posted
  6. No, he still makes them. Are you thinking of the cable guy, OBMM?
  7. Hmm, of course "left" and "right" depends which way you're facing! Hopefully this is clearer:
  8. KiOgon Precision bass loom - i.e. one of these: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/334251-bass-wiring-looms-for-sale/ Bourns 250K log mini pots with 6mm splined shafts .047uF cap Switchcraft jack socket Easy installation with solderless screw terminals: Connect the pickup hot wire to the left terminal Connect the pickup ground wire and bridge ground wire to the right terminal. Mini screwdriver included. £16 posted.
  9. Maruszczyk Jake - a stunning and versatile passive five-string bass. £1050 (sale only, sorry no trades) Body: chambered alder with flamed maple top and back Neck: 21-fret (plus zero fret) hard rock flamed maple with rosewood fingerboard, blocks, and vintage white binding Scale length: 34" Headstock: originally matching, it was subsequently refinished by JP Guitars, Bristol. Nut width: 45mm Tuners: Hipshot USA Ultralites Pickups: Delano PC 5 AL/M2 (neck) and JC 5 AL (bridge) Controls: Volume, volume, tone; push-pull on the tone for both pickups in series. Bridge: Gotoh 205B-5, 18m spacing Strings: Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt flatwounds 45-130, new in September 2022. Weight: 3.585kg, and perfectly balanced - a real pleasure to play. I've looked after it well during its time with me. It came to me with a few slightly uneven frets, which were levelled and dressed by Phil Jones (bristolguitartech.com). It also arrived with stripped neck screws; these have been replaced. Truss rod works correctly in both directions. N.B. Maruszczyk truss rods are clockwise to loosen and anti-clockwise to tighten (i.e. against convention). There are a couple of small marks on the body, one of which has been painted over (see photos). Comes with a Gear4Music foam case in good condition. UK postage included in price. I'm also happy to travel up to say 100 miles from Bristol for a handover in person.
  10. Boaters, by the river in Kingston. It was always rammed as you could catch some of the best musicians in the UK, for free!
  11. Crap website and complete pot luck on customer service - but in their favour Bass Direct generally have good prices on strings. "LTF 4A Low Tension Long scale - £40" https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/LaBella_Flatwound_strings.html
  12. The Elf's DI output will be at mic level whereas the headphone output will be close to line level. There should be a switch on the RCF to select the input level (mic or line) - I wonder if yours was on the line level setting.
  13. I try to get all the levels right during soundcheck. We do have a digital desk though and I have individual tablet control over my entire mix.
  14. This is the one I have and recommend: https://www.designacable.com/stereo-3-5mm-mini-jack-to-mono-female-xlr-cable.html
  15. I'm selling this beautiful five-string StingRay Classic Ray25CA, from Sterling by Music Man. (Sale only, no trades.) Some specs: Body Wood: Mahogany Scale Length: 34" Neck Radius: 12" Nut: 1.77" (45mm) Full specs are here: https://intl.sterlingbymusicman.com/collections/stingray-ray24-25ca/products/ray25-ca?variant=31853459406920 There is one modification. The pickup is wired in series by default, which sounds good but is not the traditional wiring for a StingRay. It's now been rewired in parallel and I feel it's a lot better - the two-band preamp gives the classic sound and both EQ knobs are much more responsive across their full range. Weight is 4.3kg (9lb 8oz). £325 collected from Bristol, or £345 posted within the UK. I also travel around for gigs - over the next few weeks I'll be back and forth along the M4 Bristol to London, up the M5 to Birmingham, and down to Brighton - so could possibly meet for a handover.
  16. Sold something to Frank and it all went smoothly. Highly recommended. Thanks!
  17. Ibanez Bass Workshop BWS90 strap Comfy padded strap. Width is 90mm (3.5") and length is adjustable from 102cm (40") to 125cm (49"). Full details: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/bws90_01.html £12 posted.
  18. Truetone 1 SPOT power supply 9V power supply, max 1700mA. 3m cable. Full details: https://truetone.com/1-spot/ £16 posted.
  19. Probably a typo but it takes a 9V supply. Great preamp pedal! I was very happy with mine. GLWTS.
  20. Some people use hand signals for keys, so worth knowing: hand makes a C shape = key of C. a number of fingers pointing up = number of sharps (e.g. 1 finger = G) a number of fingers pointing down = number of flats (e.g. 2 fingers = Bb)
  21. With my Sandberg (a VM5, a beautifully made and great feeling instrument), I too wanted a warmer, vintage sound. It took a while, but I did get there in the end - here are the steps I took. First, I put on flatwound strings. It was better, but not quite right yet. So then I swapped the stock pickup for an Aguilar ("designed to capture the vibe and feel of the 60’s"). It was better, but not quite right yet. Then I removed the preamp and rewired it as passive. It was better, but not quite right yet. So I put it all back to stock, sold it, and bought a P bass...
  22. Still for sale.

  24. I also had an MB150 back in the day, and agree they do go relatively loud for their small size but that there are better options these days. But you only said '12" GK combo' - of which MB150 is just one. Gallien Krueger also make the MB 112, Fusion 112, and Legacy 112 (based on RB) combos. I had an MB 210 combo and RB head years ago, which were fine - but as you allude, not typically the first choice for upright. (I was doubling.) When RB is mentioned, I think of Flea! Although Dave Holland is also a GK endorser. Anyway - my MB combo was absolutely blown away by Barefaced. And since you're after more volume, I'd need convincing that the MB 112 was the way to go. Not sure about this idea mentioned that you need a physically smaller amp. I've used 8x10 on jazz quartet gigs without any boominess (it was turned down quite low). Actually it sounded great! If you're happy with Phil Jones but just need more volume, he makes larger ones than the Double Four. However the ultimate in flat amplification, which is what I use myself, is an active PA speaker. Additionally, it will be cheaper than PJ, and likely louder per kg. Look at RCF, Yamaha, QSC. You could use your Double Four into it as a preamp. But returning to your initial complaint of boominess - the very first thing to ask is have you tried a variable HPF? Essential piece of kit, whatever amplification comes after it.
