  1. I think they are a rebrand of the (cheaper) Edifier H850. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0083DPIIA £54.99
  2. Use a small spoon to lever the knob up; perhaps one spoon on each side. Put a cloth down first to protect the top of the bass.
  3. May I ask how come you're sorting out the courier, and not the seller/builder? If the worse did happen in transit (damage/loss), I'd want them to be responsible for sorting it out, not me.
  4. Isn't it customs duty first, then VAT on top? Something like... Customs duty: £200 x 1.12 = £224 VAT: £224 x 1.20 = £269 UPS handling fee: £269 + £13 = £282
  5. I think a quicker way is, for each section, highlight the time range you want and then 'Render', then choose 'Time selection' instead of the default 'Entire project'.
  6. It was UPS. They didn't charge me anything, as Kev says above, the VAT was already paid, so there was no additional service they provided, so there was no additional fee.
  7. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/9 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/notes/division/3 "Under the law of England and Wales and of Northern Ireland, claims for breach of contract are subject to a limitation period of six years from the date of the breach of contract [...] "For example, the statutory right may not be breached and so a consumer would not be able to obtain a remedy if, say, a very cheap kettle stopped working fully after four years, as a reasonable person might not expect a bottom of the range kettle to last that long." It's not saying that a laptop must last for six years; no law would say anything so specific. It's saying that any claim must be made within six years. The question is whether the laptop meets "the standard that a reasonable person would consider satisfactory". I am a reasonable person and I would say that 18 months is not long enough for a £1000 laptop.
  8. Sure; just to clarify, I don't think I slipped through the net. My understanding before I placed the order is that I wasn't expecting any extra fees, since my order total was below the £135 threshold and therefore I'd already paid the VAT directly to Thomann.
  9. Confirming my £44 order placed a week ago was delivered today with no signs of any extra fees.
  10. I've been getting a high-pitched noise at some (but not all) gigs and I currently suspect my Fame DC Junior, although many changing factors/gear at each gig mean it's hard to pinpoint the problem. Also I can't actually hear the noise myself, relying on younger bandmates to tell me when it starts/stops. Next gig (whenever that will be...) I will try not using it and see if it helps. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
  11. Dr J Sparrow; or a MojoMojo + any passive DI box.
  12. The free shipping is if your basket is £135 or above. They sort out the VAT for you (so no courier handling fee) if your 'Net amount' is £135 or below. But postage contributes towards 'Net amount' (I placed an order last week). So sweet spot is a basket of exactly £135, as you'll get free postage and no courier handling fee. The amount to avoid in your basket is £128.33 - £134.99, the worst of both worlds, as you'll have to pay both the £8 shipping and the ~£12 courier handling fee; in that case, you'd save £20 by adding £7 of stuff to your basket.
  13. The discontinued first edition (made in China) were particularly good and some say a future classic. The later/current ones (made in Indonesia) are still pretty good. I have one of the current ones and like it a lot.
  14. The track posted in this thread is from his 'Jaco Pastorius' album. Just found this: https://reverb.com/news/jaco-pastorius-on-how-he-learned-bass-and-composition-bacons-archive I interviewed Jaco Pastorius at a London hotel in summer 1976. I wanted to talk mainly about his first solo album, Jaco Pastorius, which had just been released. "On my record, I play fretless on everything but "Come On, Come Over" and "Portrait Of Tracy," I played fretted on those two."
  15. Don't think Portrait of Tracy is on fretless.
  16. Yes, I think you're probably right. In general... I'd exercise caution of social media lotteries as it's too easy for the less-scrupulous organiser to skim or fix. Clearly not the case here though; good to see many vouching for Alpher, and best of luck to all entering the draw.
  17. No doubt run in good faith, but they should confirm if it's legal etc as there are various rules. E.g. "people can genuinely choose to take part without paying" https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/for-the-public/Safer-gambling/Consumer-guides/Running-prize-competitions-and-free-draws.aspx
  18. I agree with this part. If you were playing this song live and could not fade out the ending, which chord would you most naturally want to play to make it sound "final"? For me it would be B minor, not A major...
  19. You can use nearly any pickup and just change the cover. E.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-of-PICKUP-COVERS-in-BLACK-CREAM-WHITE-to-fit-USA-Precision-P-Bass-guitar/190980490847?var=490217062453
  20. I recently had a hum appear, and I tried every combination and permutation of basses, pedal, cables, etc; it turned out to be the standing light with a dimmer I'd just brought in from another room.
  21. Confirmation email received this morning suggests the £8 shipping already included VAT; i.e. it is really £6.67 + 20% (£1.33).
  22. I just added £29.80 of items to my Thomann basket. There was then £8 shipping, so the checkout total was £37.80. A message on that page said that the prices shown exclude VAT. Their FAQ says that VAT will be added and charged by Thomann if the value is equal or less than £135; in these cases no additional fee will have to be paid upon delivery. So I was expecting to pay £37.80 + 20%, which is £45.36. I was however charged £43.76, which I have worked out is £29.80 + 20% (£35.76), plus the £8 shipping. So there was no VAT on the shipping; is that correct? I'll update if anything else happens.
  23. The webshop recently stopped shipping directly to UK customers. I ordered a part this week via the UK distributor by emailing [email protected] ; it will be included in the next shipment of basses sent over (whenever that is - TBC). There may be delays as Germany is currently in lockdown.
  24. Buy the strings you want (used or new) but keep the originals somewhere. When you sell the bass, reinstall the original strings and sell the good strings separately.
  25. Yes, sorry, I meant the cube root but didn't know how to make the small 3!
