I wonder if that 8" speaker is going to cut it. I do myself have a QSC CP8 (also an 8" speaker), although I haven't used it much yet; certainly not enough to form a judgement. In its favour, it is very small; I got it to use at the occasional very quiet gig. My normal rig is an RCF 732A, which sounds lush and can go louder than I'll ever need it to. I don't always know in advance what the gig scenario is going to be, but I'm confident the RCF 732A can handle any situation I'm likely to encounter. The QSC CP8 definitely couldn't. What's your current setup?

Been years since I've browsed it, but try https://www.facebook.com/groups/22473888020/ or similar. Edit Ah, it might be a private group. It's called "Dep Musicians in the UK - Needed and Available"- 3 replies

Ah I could be wrong. On the first-gen K and the CP series, you can set the switch/dial to "EXT SUB".

Sounds like a really good setup to me 👍

Are you very very loud, or is the Darkglass + Big Twin 2 just ticking over? Because if it's the first option, I'm not sure what single powered speaker could match the volume of 900W into a Big Twin 2.

I don't have a K10.2 but does it make a difference if you turn the high-pass filter on? I think it's an option in the "sub" menu.

Amp flight cases (Do they boom when you put an amp on top?)
jrixn1 replied to Jack's topic in Accessories and Misc
What's the underlying problem - you can't hear yourself? What have you tried which hasn't worked? Can the rest of the band and the audience hear you ok? Raising the cab so high (60cm) can potentially affect how things sound - I think due to the direct sound and the indirect sound (from floor bounce) ending up out of phase, cancelling out low mids. Won't a flight case for an 18kg Rumble 800 be at least 25kg? As for the general practicability of rolling flight cases - they're great if your van has a ramp and the venue load-in is easy, flat/ramped, and wide. But can quickly become a pain if you encounter any steps or narrow doorways/corridors. Also over time a flight case is more likely to mark your vehicle and doorways in wherever your store the equipment. -
I recently bought a bass bar and am happy with it. Nearly all my gigs are doubling, and it allows me to switch instruments quickly and without faff. Then when the upright is not being played it's now taking up a smaller footprint on stage. It's light, folds down small, and can confirm it does come with a bag. Good product 👍

I'd also consider a powered PA speaker like an RCF, QSC, Yamaha. There's a huge thread here if you have a free day to browse through it... https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/315455-interesting-frfr-story/

You can send him the original and he makes a tort copy of it: https://jacksinstrumentservices.com/custom-scratchplate-cutting.html

That is a good combination. Also particularly if you like trying out different stuff or are not 100% sure what to go for - consider a modular approach: a very clean 800W amp or power amp, and a separate pedal (e.g. Tone Hammer, Mojomojo, VT Bass, HX, SGFX Beta, whatever) - lot easier & cheaper to swap a pedal over than an amp.

I first tried Shure SE215 but then went to KZ ZS10 after reading the recommendation in this forum. The ZS10 are really good and I prefer them to the SE215.

Whichever Y cable it is, neither doubling the current nor doubling the voltage will help you. Return the power supply to Thomann and get a different one which has a 12v output.

A portable rig for jazz - any advice/preferences?
jrixn1 replied to julietgreen's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you like it, why not get the same one yourself. If not loud enough, get a louder version of the same model, or use two of them. -
Yes, you can. The QSC has a link out so you just use an XLR cable to connect them.

The RCF low end is full and deep. Reading the marketing spec, the Big Baby 2 goes lower (Barefaced website says "Usable frequency" down to 30Hz; RCF website says "Frequency response" goes to 50Hz) - but I high-pass at 60Hz for a five-string bass anyway. Dispersion is really good on the RCF. I didn't own both rigs simultaneously but going by memory the Big Baby 2 was good. I used the Big Baby 2 with a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2, which is a 500W amp at 8ohms. The RCF 732A is 500W into the 12" and 200W to the compression driver, and the crossover is I believe quite low, at 700Hz. I don't really know the technical side of things too well but I think this means the compression driver takes on more of the mids, so the woofer is more free to concentrate on the lows. Anyway, whatever it's doing it sounds good, and remains sounding good when you crank up the volume.

I'm playing a RCF 732A (pretty much the RCF equivalent of a QSC K12), either as a monitor when full PA support, or as backline when not. It's a wedding/function band, generally six- to 10-piece; core repertoire is Motown/soul although there's some other stuff so I do play a 5-string bass. I'm not using modelling; my pedals are a parametric mids EQ and a MojoMojo. Previous rigs were Gallien Krueger 4x10 (well, it was two 2x10s), Barefaced Big Baby 2, and a couple of Barefaced One10s. The RCF is better.

Yes, that is what you need to do.
