  1. I found a previous thread where I said: "I had one for a while. They are not expensive. I really liked the acoustic sound - but you couldn't use that live. The sound through the pick-up was... ok, not bad by any means, but it didn't blow me away." https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/293304-aria-feb-flf-fretless-acoustic-nbd/ https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/318275-aria-feb-any-thoughts/
  2. An unsolicited photo of my BB 😍
  3. I can't answer, but could I ask you is there something about the 435 you feel is lacking? I've owned a 425X in the past, and a 735A currently. Am interested in past and current (and future) BBs for reference in case I get another one!

    HPF + LPF

Depending on your exact scenario, perhaps a Zoom multi-effects unit like B1on, MS-60B, or B3n. They have a few options for HPF (e.g. `AcBs Pre`), and one of the cab simulations could play the part of a LPF.
  5. If you are planning to have the work done by a luthier, one thing might be worth checking is that they will undertake the work with a customer-supplied bridge. Some do not.
  6. I've owned a Streamliner 600 in the past, and also a Shuttle 9.2 which has a similar tube preamp section, and yes when I turned the gain up I also then correspondingly turned the volume down, as that's what seemed to me to work best -- but perhaps there are other, better ways to combine all the controls. In my mind it's like having an effects pedal where you use the output volume control to avoid overloading the next pedal in the chain.
  7. I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than me would answer. Here is my understanding... On the M: the gain will not affect the tone. Its only purpose is to set the correct level going into the eq section. E.g. if you have weak pickups you would raise the gain; if you have powerful pickups you would lower the gain. However on the T: adjusting the gain will also affect the tone. E.g. you may want to "crank" the gain for its tubey tonal benefits. In that case, the extra volume control lets you attenuate back to unity, so you don't overload the eq section.
  8. Another thing to be aware of is that the daily period runs midnight-midnight. So for a late-finishing gig, you might have to pay twice!
  9. I've never used one, but Phil Jones Piranha 8x5 exists. https://www.thomann.de/gb/phil_jones_piranha_compact_8_cabinet.htm
  10. I sometimes use one of these: https://www.thomann.de/gb/planet_waves_gr_01_guitar_rest.htm
  11. 100% agree with this. Modal compositions do exist -- but `Treasure` is not one of them. A lot of the discussion around modes can be bypassed by just pointing out "play the notes from the key you are in". Also 100% agree with this. The Ab, Fm, and Gm create tension, which is then resolved on return to Cm.
  12. I'll throw this into the mix, although it's a slightly different approach. Barefaced Big Baby 2 (£749) and Fearless F112 (£750) are both very flat, high quality 1x12" with compression driver, which accurately reproduce whatever signal you feed it. So if you're considering those, I'd also look at an active PA speaker like an RCF 732-A or QSC K12.2. They're about the same price, but include a built-in matched 700-900W power amp. I've previously owned a BB2 (driven by a Genz 900W amp), and currently run an RCF 732-A, and they are comparable systems. Additionally, since you mentioned kickback option, a PA speaker can be used in the upright or monitor position.
  13. I have sourced some appropriate packaging, so I can now post these within the UK for £700 inclusive. Collection from London SW19 still welcome, for £650. Or could meet-up somewhere. I'm travelling to Bristol at the end of October - so anywhere within reach of the M25 or M4.
  14. Yes, I do have one which lives in my van as a spare. Never actually needed it as a back-up, but I do choose to gig it occasionally, and it is fun, small, and light. I don't really get on with jazz basses, so mine's currently wired in series. There is a previous thread here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/241113-jd-mini-basses-and-vintage-63-p-bass-jack-and-danny/ I note that I paid just £73.99 a couple of years ago!
  15. Revised price of £50 posted within UK.
  16. Selling a pair of RCF HD 10-A MK4 powered speakers, including fitted covers, for £600 collected from London SW19, or £650 posted within UK. Edit: now sold If you only want one, I can possibly split, but only if I have two buyers lined up. These are powered speakers with a 10" woofer and a 1" compression driver. Rated 800 W Peak, 400 W RMS. Inputs is balanced XLR or unbalanced jack, at line or mic level (selectable). Weight is 14kg each. Manufacturer's website with full spec and marketing: https://www.rcf.it/en_US/products/product-detail/hd-10-a-mk4/291481 I bought the first one in December 2017, and the second in May 2018 - so they are not that old. The best price I can find for these new, including covers, is £899. There are a couple of light scuffs but otherwise in very good condition. UK power cables are included. The fitted covers are really good as they have velcro-fastened flaps in all the correct places (for all handles and connections) so you can use the speakers without removing the covers.
  17. BOSS LS-2 Line Selector £45 posted within UK Edit 17th Nov: sold https://www.boss.info/us/products/ls-2/ A very useful and versatile pedal if you ever need to switch, blend, or route several inputs/outputs. In good condition. It had velcro on the bottom, which has since been removed. No box, but will be well packaged.
  18. Artec Parametric EQ Update: now sold A handy EQ pedal which allows selection of frequency, Q (bandwidth), gain, and output level. http://artecsound.com/effect/se-peq.htm Frequency Range : 10Hz ~ 20kHz Gain : -12dB ~ +12dB Width : 1/2 oct ~ 1/4 oct, Q : 4 ~ 7 Includes original box and postage within UK. In good condition. It's had velcro on the bottom, which has since been removed.
  19. If your emergency scenario includes a broken power supply, then the Mooer will be no good. I've had this at a wedding where my pedal board completely died - it was in the middle of a song, and in the relative darkness on-stage, etc, so it was very hard to quickly diagnose exactly where or what the problem was. I carry a Behringer DI400P which small, light, and the minimum equipment needed to get a signal from my bass to a PA in an "actual emergency" -- it's passive so I don't worry about how to power it. If you're talking about a "non-emergency emergency" where EQ or some distortion etc would be nice to have, then that's something else!
  20. Is it the same as https://todaysjazz.yolasite.com/ ? (I just googled "Today's Jazz Book") It seems to have a download link. Good job with the book - I just didn't understand why people need to PM you to get the link.
  21. Sorry if this sounds obvious, but can you practise the faster tunes at a slower tempo? The note choice is generally the same regardless of tempo.
  22. I have a similar setup also based around a Zoom unit. The Zoom B1Xon sends an unbalanced signal, which can pick up noise. A DI box converts the unbalanced signal to a balanced signal, which can cancel out any noise. This explains it better: http://www.aviom.com/blog/balanced-vs-unbalanced/ - "An unbalanced cable acts like an antenna and picks up noise." A DI box will have two outputs: balanced XLR and unbalanced jack. I send the XLR to the desk, and the jack to my monitor. I use an MXR M81 which has DI and also some EQ. I use it in "pre" EQ mode, which means the XLR signal is unaffected by the EQ i.e. the desk gets the signal exactly as it came from the Zoom. Any EQ adjustments only affects the jack output i.e. my monitor. A possibly cheaper way is to use separate DI box and EQ pedal. I used to do it this way with a Behringer DI box and an Artec EQ pedal. The MXR just happens to do it in one unit. This is all assuming you want just the bass in your monitor. If you want other instruments then you'll have definitely have to go via the desk, and the solution will be different.
  23. +1 I've never used this shop before, but https://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/yamaha-bb-434-4-string-bass-guitar-black seem to have them new for £299 which is about £150 less than normal!
