1. My setup when I played rockabilly was two completely separate systems: - a normal bass amp for the bass; - a small guitar amp for the click. It was really nice if I needed to adjust anything mid-gig to have that independence. E.g. click too loud/harsh? Just adjust its volume/eq without messing with the bass sound. So in terms of neatness, it was just the two jack leads coming out of the bass.
2. There are bots (automated computer programs) which examine the competitor's price and then sell higher. Sometimes they spiral out of control; e.g. this book on sale for $23.7 million! http://www.michaeleisen.org/blog/?p=358 "Why though would bordeebook want to make sure theirs is always more expensive? Since the prices of all the sellers are posted, this would seem to guarantee they would get no sales. But maybe this isn’t right – they have a huge volume of positive feedback – far more than most others. And some buyers might choose to pay a few extra dollars for the level of confidence in the transaction this might impart. "[...] they do not actually possess the book. Rather, they noticed that someone else listed a copy for sale, and so they put it up as well – relying on their better feedback record to attract buyers. But, of course, if someone actually orders the book, they have to get it – so they have to set their price significantly higher"
3. For sale: Sparrow "Dr.J" driver/DI pedal Pre-amp with overdrive, in the style of a Behringer BDI21 or Tech 21 VT Bass DI. 4. I bought this Aria fretless acoustic last week. It was a b-stock item due to a small dent at the top of the headstock; I paid £189. Credit to gear4music: I paid them on Monday morning and it arrived on Tuesday morning. The setup was good out of the box and I didn't feel the need to fiddle with anything in that respect. I tried some La Bella Deep Talkin' flats, but prefer the stock bronze wounds, which give a nice, gentle, organic sound. Larger than I thought it would be (not a problem though, just an observation). For comparison, here it is next to a normal-sized bass:
5. Still for sale - bump.
6. I've just bought a J&D Mini Jazz as a spare to live in the back of the van. Cost: £73.99 incl shipping Weight: 3.1 kg Scale length: 28 1/2" (measured 14 1/4" from nut to 12th fret). Colour: sonic blue! Quite fun noodling around for the last hour or so. Might do a gig with it!
7. For sale (no trades, thanks): [s]£450[/s] EDIT: now sold Price includes official gig bag and UK postage Make: Sterling by Music Man Model: Ray34CA Colour: 3 Tone Sunburst This is basically a two-band StingRay, made in Indonesia, with a narrower neck than a standard StingRay, and a slab body (no belly or forearm contours). Manufacturer's description: "Delivering old school looks for the vintage enthusiast, the finish is a hard glossy coat that exudes the vibe of an older instrument. Glossy amber tinted neck, a narrow 38mm nut width, 34” scale and 2-Band active preamp satisfy the original appeal of the StingRay Bass." Manufacturer's website: http://www.sterlingb...-basses/ray34ca I purchased this bass new in December 2014 from GAK. They currently retail new for £759. Full set of photos here: http://imgur.com/a/yIqFO Unless noted below, anything which looks like it might be a scratch or ding in the photos is either a reflection of the light or it is wood grain. Please ask if any clarification is needed - happy to take more photos if needed. Please note these cosmetic flaws: 1. There is a small amount of very light buckle rash - it was impossible to photograph, and only visible if you hold the bass up to the light and move it around slowly. 2. One tuner had a slight rattle, so I dabbed some superglue around the edge. The rattle stopped. It looks worse in this photo than in real life, as for the photo I have positioned the tuner so it is reflecting a dark surface; the superglue is not as reflective. 3. Upper horn has a small scratch. 4. Headstock has a very small ding. Strings are D'Addario Chromes. Digital bathroom scales show weight as 4.6 kg (10 lb 2 oz). This is the cheapest entry point for a classic two-band StingRay bass with sunburst body, black pickguard, and maple fingerboard!
8. [s]Bump + price drop to £125.[/s] EDIT: Bass is now sold
9. [s]£105 including postage.[/s] EDIT: NOW SOLD For sale (no trades, thanks): Zoom B3 - multi-effects and amp simulator. This one is just three weeks old, and so it's in very good condition. Includes original box, manual, and power supply. Official Zoom website: https://www.zoom-na....simulator-pedal
10. Bump and price drop to £100.
11. I sold a pedal to Dan. A really easy transaction, with prompt and clear communication throughout. Thanks!
12.
it's 120W struggled to be heard at a pub gig. The new ones are 500W

found out the 500W is peak (not RMS)

Doubling the power is going to help
Since it is the same product from the same company, is it fair to reason that if their "500W" is more like what you and I would call 250W, then the original "120W" was more like 60W? So the power in the new version has quadrupled. I'm also quite curious about these, and perhaps I am trying to convince myself to get one!
13. I have one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/rockboard_power_lt_xl.htm It can supply power while it's recharging - so at gigs I tend to plug it in if there happens to be a convenient socket; but if there isn't, I don't. It has lights on it which indicate how much charge is left. No need to ever remove it from pedal board or open it up to extract batteries.
14. TC Electronics BodyRez [s]£60 including postage.[/s] EDIT: no longer for sale Includes original box and power supply. No trades, thanks. 16. Tech21 VT Bass DI [s]£150 including postage.[/s] Edit: now sold Includes the original tin. No trades, thanks.
17. I've never done it myself, but apparently you can ask for a refund of VAT or Customs Duty on returned items: https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty
18. I have a negative comment about the pedal: there is no way to bypass it. You can stomp on/off the effects loop (i.e. the upright bass modeller + any other digital EQ/reverb effects you have programmed in), but some settings are outside of that loop: the input level, the input pickup setting (magnetic, piezo, or flat), master EQ, and the output level. If I was playing only upright, this wouldn't be a problem, as the pedal would always be in use. However, nearly all my gigs are doubling, so it is a bit annoying. I guess could use a separate effects loop pedal to bypass the Zoom A3 when I don't want it - but that's extra faffing and pedalboard space. (EDIT: I subsequently discovered that the tuner has two modes: "mute" and "bypass". The bypass mode is partial: it bypasses the main effect and master EQ; it doesn't bypass the input/output level knobs).
19.
I'd be interested to hear what a regular bass guitar sounds like using the upright setting.
Interesting idea! It's a fretless jazz (rounds) at first, then about a minute in it's a fretted precision (flats + foam bridge mute). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e5UwBVgq2k Pedal settings: EQ was set flat, 100% wet blend, magnetic pickup option. Nope... doesn't sound like an upright! We'll have to keep lugging these things around :-(
20. The EQ settings were: Bass: 10 o'clock Mid: 12 o'clock Treble: 11 o'clock The balance was completely clockwise (100% wet). I play with a loud 10-piece function band, but fortunately I don't ever seem to suffer feedback issues -- so I won't have a chance to test out the feedback functionality of the pedal.
21. I couldn't find much information about the Zoom A3 pedal, which is an acoustic remodeller -- so here's a quick demo in case it's of interest to anyone else. Bass: 'Christopher' brand hybrid (spruce top, laminate back/sides) Pickup: K&K Bass Max piezo I used the pedal's default upright bass setting. I clicked the effect on and off every eight bars, starting with it off. I've faded the backing track out gradually over the length of the video, so by the end you can hear just the bass. My opinion: I don't know if it's just an EQ curve, or something else more complicated - but I think it sounds better with it on than off!
22. Sold a pedal to Rory. Good communication and a problem-free transaction!
23. I have a Pedaltrain nano here: the recessed area underneath is approx 30.5cm L x 9cm W x 2.5cm D. The rubber feet add another 1cm to the available depth.
24. Ha ha, yes, I bought the DI version a few days ago from sk8! These are great pedals. Photos of item for sale: There is a small amount of residue on the back from some velcro. Otherwise, in good cosmetic condition. Everything functions perfectly of course.
25. VT Bass for sale. [s]£100 including UK postage[/s] NOW SOLD It is this one: http://www.thomann.d..._vt_bass_v2.htm In good condition. Includes tin and instructions. Photos to follow.
