1.
The neck is a slab though!
Yeah I think I know wot you mean by a slab. It wasn't until I had a go on a '76 Precision that I realised that the neck on my Hondo was a bit wider than a Fender. This for me was a welcome discovery, because as much as I loved the Precision look and sound, the wide neck issue had been putting me off wanting to upgrade to another one. I just wish I'd got to play that Fender sooner then I wouldn't have wasted my money on the two basses that followed the Hondo lol.
2.
Yours looks a little different - more of a straight copy. Mine has a more stylised headstock with a sunburst finish. It's a Hondo Deluxe! It's been a great bass - the stuff it's been through for the last 30 years doesn't bear thinking about but it's still hanging in there!
Yes they're tough little bastards, mine took some stick in the time I had it, I only had two problems with it. 1. The pickups came away from their covers, but that was easily sorted with a bit of sponge. 2. The nut broke at the outer edge of the E slot, replaced it with a brass nut and never looked back. I hope you get yours sorted to how you want it!
3.
If you decide to part out the BA2 let me know.
Will do mate
4.
It is plywood I think.
If it's this model, (Hondo made two or three different Precisions) it's more than likely plywood, mine was.
5.
I have seen Mighty Mite stuff around, but again they don't give away an awful lot on their website! Is there a British retailer that you know of that I can find out more from? Cheers guys! Liam
This bloke will sort you out with a Mighty Mite neck, his name is Dave. I (like a few others on here) have bought off of him, he's a good bloke, very quick delivery too. 6.
Speaking of BadAss bridges - they look cool on Jazz Basses, but personally I just can't stand BA on P-Bass. Something about P with that kind of bridge just feels... off.
Badass are great bridges, I originally had mine fitted on a PJ which looked fine as the jazz pickup sat with it nicely, but since putting it on my latest standard bitsa Precision I'm tending to agree with you, it looks kind of wrong. I might just revert back to the BBOT or go for a high mass.
7. Here is my latest (and probably my last) project. Squier body, Mighty Mite scratch plate & neck, Badass II, Wilkinson pups & machine heads. Bog standard Squier pots & wiring (CTS pots and better wiring will follow later) http://
8.
have read that those dowels you get with plat pak furniture or new kitchin units are very good for this job with a little PVA glue.
Got some of them somewhere mate, but I'm thinking of using a kebab skewer as they're hardwood, the one I have fits the holes perfectly.
9. Bought a Precision body off of Mark which arrived today, well pleased with the purchase.
10. Thanks chaps much appreciated!
11. Hi all, I need to drill new holes in a neck heel, the neck has been previously used by myself, can anyone point me in the direction of a good filler to fill the old holes? Any help would be great Regards, Pete.
12. They do a replacement Squier plate http://www.newoldsounds.com dunno if it fits all Squiers though.
13.
I suppose if you were a Luthier yourself it would be a good buy - cant complain for the price (when you consider what AllParts charge and what you get stung in customs fees if you buy from Mightymite or Warmoth direct) just a bit too much work for me.
Doh! I never noticed the full extent of the damage and I'm certainly not the bloke to put that right lol. Aye you can't knock his prices though.
14. I'd have it meself if I had something to put it on. 15. A blistering performance of Badfinger's 'Without You' by two lads from the North East. Paul Wilkinson - Vocals and Arty Fixter - Guitar & Backing track.
16. I can vouch for Mark too, I've bought from him before, he's a top bloke! His items arrive as described, very quickly and well packaged. I'm in the process of buying from him again as I type this. "If he's got it and you need it, buy it with confidence.
17.
Common misconception - there were no Korean Silver Series Squiers. Some people think the 'Silver Series' refers to the decal colour, but it doesn't. The Silver Series was a specific range of MIJ Squiers made in the early nineties.
"I'll just get me coat!"
18. List a Korean silver series Jazz and use an Affinity ad to sell it's potential. Clueless. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-SQUIER-BASS-JAZZ-GUITAR-BLACK-ROSEWOOD-FENDER-STAND-/220905758242?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item336f025e22
19. I've had two from him (if you're on about Bluebass) and they are a bargain, fitted the first one onto a Squier Precision special and it was a dream to play.
20. I love Thunderbirds, I still have my 1998 Korean Epi and I'll never sell it, it's a beast! and it plays better than a Gibson I once borrowed. The only thing I found that the Gibson has over the Epi is the quality of pickups and a slightly more comfortable neck, another thing, if you are unfortunate enough to knock the headstock off an Epi (a common thing with Thunderbirds) you can replace the neck, whereas with the Gibson, it's curtains if you can't afford a good luthier. As Rayman says Gibson are over priced and their QC is not great at the moment, infact it's been dropping off for years. but then again so has Epi's especially since the Chinese got involved. I once saw an Arctic White which had been sent to a bloke that had the bridge so far out that the E string was actually off of the neck, how that got past QC is beyond belief. My advice is, if you go for an Epi try and pick up a Korean made one. Anyway Pete Way backed the Epi over Gibson, saying they sound a lot better. and he has had had numerous Thunderbirds over the years from Vintage ones through to the 90's re issues.
21. Thanks for your thoughts and pointers mate. Yeah you're right about me not wanting to do owt to the body. I'm not that light handed or the most patient, so I wouldn't want to overdo it on something that needs a steady hand.
22. I hope I've posted this is in the right place? I have a Mighty Mite Precision neck sat here which I want to use. I know it will fit a Squier body, but I'm finding it hard to get hold of one at the moment. Does anyone know if it would fit any of the following Precision replica bodies? Aria RTB Westfield B1000 Jim Deacon I don't wanna go throwing money away on something that will be as much use as a pet wasp. Thanks
