  1. The two basses in my avatar were built by them and the standard o construction is flawless, as is the playability and sound. There's definitely another in my future. ( Mine are badged fame, I'll admit that, but they're made by Mayones)
  2. Looking for tips and hints about what regimes anyone might have for the above. the two basses in my avatar have oiled finish and I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. How often to re-treat, what product to use, how to apply it, how to polish after application.
  3. That's a detail too far for me as well ;-) We'll see how it plays and take it from there ;-)
  4. Good theory on the neck, but the logo is all wrong for one of those.
  5. I do like a bit of tort, but usually against a sunburst body. I'm curious to see whether an anodised one might fit on this. It'll end up as a plaything and the others can remain untouched.
  6. I'd agree and have to say it's not something I have any notion for. I'll end up with a 70s style neck and a spare 50s neck and we all know how that'll end...
  7. I saw this advertised and had my head turned by the covers. I've never had a P bass with covers still on there. It has a '51 style neck on a later style body. Hopefully it goes without saying that this is no more than a P bas shaped object and no more. Would there ever have been a bass with this combo of neck and body ? The first thing I'll do is get rid of the logo as that's not honest. I may consider another neck with more appropriate headstock size, to suit the body and make it a Fecker Pretender.
  8. Looks like I have a deal locally for a an Indonesian PJ which isn't quite what I had in mind, but it's low commitment and should keep me on the right site of the steering committee who already knows that there are 4 basses hanging on the wall, so...
  9. It did draw the eye, in that colour.
  10. Is there something I'm not understanding regarding the price of this one compared to new ? (Whilst I'm on, I experimented with my Jaydee today in passive mode. On the neck pickup, it really does do that sound quite well. I guess I'd still like the simplicity of a P bass though.)
  11. Can't comment of G&L but the Lakland 55-01 I've been using is very nice. i don't have the bar set very high here in terms of cost. I already have some really nicer basses so don't want to take the mickey.
  12. You'll love it !
  13. I'd seen it. It looks very nice.
  14. It's a very long time since I had a P bass and now that I'm getting older, the yearning for a simple old fashioned traditional P bass is getting stronger. Has anyone tried one of these ? http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-detroit-bass/bass-collection-detroit-bass-solar-flare.html There are worse choices of bass to have a hankering for, there isn't exactly a shortage. Another question. Sunburst or Fiesta Red ?
  15. Richard, I'd be delighted to be proven wrong too. My understanding is that VAT might be an element ? I'd looked into buying from Thomann and they no longer charge VAT for goods over £135, as per the new rules, and that's chargeable here. All as I understand it.
  16. Mike, I've been looking into this for other items too. It's f**in' b*ll**ks (P.S. These really are great instruments. :-( )
  17. I'm moving stuff around right now 😉
  18. I have a 1987 Roadie 2 Active. Neck dive isn't an issue with mine. Weight is 4.4kg
  19. Is it dahn sarff or is it up here in Scotland ?
  20. I bought mine from Koval and love it.
  21. I can heartily recommend these basses and this seller. i bought my fretless NTB from Koval123 and it has pride of place alongside my 6 string bolt on. Wonderful build quality and sound.
  22. You know that thing that happens when you're just browsing and you see something you don't need, but you have to buy it anyway ? The one on the left is my self built one, the one on the right is fairly obviously a Roland PK5.
  23. I worked on a building site once where the guy from the power company, in rerouting some supplies, wore a wig. He was climbing a set of steps, went too far and cracked his head on the concrete floor slab above, requiring a visit to hospital. Blood everywhere When he returned the following day, the head was fully bandaged, with the wig sitting proudly atop the crepe bandage.
  24. This isn't the normal hair dye. This is weapons grade.
  25. I thought that when I saw him. He has unusually dark hair for a gentleman of his age... Then again, I have a large solar panel, so I'm in no position to comment on such matters.
