Do Badass bridges actually make any difference?
I suppose it's a matter of taste. They certainly don't make a Jazz Bass sound more like a Jazz Bass. They offer mildly more sustain and some say a more 'level' sound across the Hz band. I always take them off pre-owned Fenders and replace with an OEM type. I find quite a number of Japanese and 'standard' Fender basses have this mod. I'm sure some players find the characteristics of the Badass valuable but I've never found that to be the case for me in live or recording stuations with the bands I play in.
The plan is that it will be the back-up to my main gigging bass which is an Ibanez Blazer.
That'll change. Mark my words.
Do they not normally have more than that written on the headstock?
They have a facsimilie of the '62 Spag logo.
Fender's own '75 RI pickups from the US version are available as '75 Vintage'. They are excellent pickups IMO
+1. Custom Shop '60's overwound are fantastic. Nice and open sounding like the original with a bigger midrange. I love 'em. Stay prominent in a live band mix even with all the treble rolled orf. What is that? An excellent pickup. Use CTS 250k solid shaft pots.... and never mind that .022uF capacitor thang, get yourself a paper in oil .047uF. Actually, do that first, coz once you hear it you might think twice about feeling the need swap pickups out and stuff. There's not a lot wrong with those Jap pickups. As for changing the bridge, I never saw fit on a quality Jazz Bass, and that Jap hardware is good quality. A Jazz Bass is as a Jazz Bass does. .

'66 Slab Precision...Anyone seen one/got one?
mckendrick replied to Rick's Fine '52's topic in Bass Guitars
If you have a beer gut then a slab can be quite uncomfortable. So I've heard.
....and if you're really bony it can be damned uncomfortable! -
Looks to me very much as noted above. I sold one of these for £425 in May 2011. As far as I've learned they were made across the transition from MIJ to CIJ from 1995 to 1998 tho' I'm open to correction on that. From that period.... if it's MIJ it will have a U, N or V prefix, CIJ will have an A or an O prefix. Hope this helps. .
Nice colour for a Mustang! -- But I thought the Competition version had a colour matched headstock!
It ain't neccesarily so, two by. Reletively few CIJ Mustangs have been adorned with that feature. It's a figbox of the imagination created by the very fact that they are more noticable by their rarity, as it were.
Is the serial number correct? Have tried to find dating info and can't seem to find serial number info for po with 5 numerics
It's P 0xxxxx

serial P 074551 @ http://www.guitardat...org/fender.aspx
Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1993 - 1994
s/n Pxxxxxx 93/94 applies to MIJ's. Been a Jazz player for years. That envelope is huge. Ethereal analogue tones. A little compression at the right Hz at the gig evens out the high-neck low-neck differential. Like an old faithfull undying love affair. Recently acquired P (from Flat Eric via Danweb).... changing the saddles for grooved vintage style puts the strings right between the pole-pieces, vintage Fender Gotohs with a 28:1 ratio fined up the tuning slackness... went to town and dropped in CTS pots and overwound custom shop '62 P-Bass pick-ups.... dream Precison, chaps.... dream Precision. Like a new youthful bit on the side. The Jazz is still me go-to mind, tho' loving the P. So different.
