I mean, who plays Disco Inferno in b flat for frak's sake?
Frak?
Last week our guitarist played the whole thing against me in a different key despite me holding up my bass and shouting Eb.
And he's still your guitarist...?

Hello man. Me new, too. What me worry? Some top peeps on here. Stick around.

Thanks obbm.... that's loads of help - more than I could have anticipated! PM coming your way. Now then, any takers on the CIJ....?
Wasnt Bootsy Collins James Brown's bassist?. On such great songs like "I Feel Good" and "Sex Machine"?
Is the correct answer. Proper Bootsy. James Brown; "What'da f*** was dat? You fi'ed boy. You out. Git. Go. Get out!" Bootsy; "Whaaaa haaa haa. Ah shee-it.... whhhaaaa hhhaaaa hhaaa." "Hooo hooo hooo. Aw sheeee..... whhaaa haaaa haaaa. Ha ha ha haaaaaaa......".

Precision scratchplate ponderings - colours, screwholes
3. Advise yourself. You have a classic bass there, don't f*ck with it.
Word up. Far too much of that going on. Largely unneccessary and so devaluating. -
Top thread. Cheers, Andy.

Cheers, an' all.... but I don't have a spec. And therein lies the prob. I have two Jap Jazzes, both - for some inane reason - have had the pickguards dispatched to other worlds and the traced patterns (without an original example) for both are different, neither of which matches anything off the shelf in a packet that says "Fender" on it. I've emailed that bloke on the web who imports Japs but all he wants to do is sell me a new bass.

Sorry if Dan's already got a feedback post - if he's not he should have. Anyway, can't find one so.... ....purchased an item from Dan a couple of weeks ago. All as per. No issues. No messing about. I wouldn't hesitate buying from him again and have no hesitation in recommending Dan to future potential buyers. And the sickening thing is, he's such a nice bloke, too!

Thanks for that 73 - a nice lnk to keep in the Favourites. Problem here is one of the instruments has had the s/plate removed altogether, and another has had a totally ill-fitting replacement, so I have no original template. I had one guy take the Jazz Bass away for a week and it came back with something resembling Pali Gap between the control plate and his effort of a scratchplate. Definitely need to source factory bits here, 73. Hey, but thanks again for the link. Always useful to know. Cheers.

I'm sure those familiar with the problem have all been a bit cheesed orf when they discovered that nice new USA Custom Shop scratchplate didn't fit anywhere near their prized Jap Jazz Bass. I've come across a few of these problems myself and beg the question: Does anyone know where to source parts specifically crafted for Japanese Fenders...? Discussion invited..., PM..., whatever. Cheers.
I just want to get this off my chest. I'm very much a beginner and still largely in root/5th land....
Don't underestimate yourself, REDLAWMAN... I've been playing for the best part of forty years and still reckon I'm proper rubbish and largely clueless. I didn't ever let that put me off tho', playing bass is what I wanted to do and I enjoy it. I play in three bands and help run a music workshop for adult learners. I KNOW I'll never be Percy Jones or Oteil Burbridge, and as much as I admire and enjoy their work, I'm kind of resigned to knowing I'll never be able to play like that. Three notes in various keys on the 'board got me through eight numbers at the college end of term concert last Friday night. James Brown's "I Feel Good", Ray Charles' "What'd I Say", and Nina Simone's "Do I Move You" went down particularly well and had the audience dancing and not knowing whether it was me or Ray Brown in the band. I'm not saying don't aspire to better things, I'm not saying don't keep learning, I'm not saying don't try and emulate great players.... ....but at the same time I'm saying DON'T UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELF and in the meantime PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS. It'll all come in time, man - keep at it! Cheers.
I think the1990s re-issues would have a serial starting with two letters. A7 followed by five numerals looks like 1977.
The one in my avatar is ser. No. A6***** It was bought brend new from Rip-Offs in Norbury in August 1976. Hope this helps -
Hi folks, Guessing it's due to Christmas that there are so many basses for sale with so few buyers? Last bump for a while, don't want to force the issue.
I'm looking to buy all the time, Jim.... this one just isn't on my radar. I am curious however, and have a couple of points: What happened to the original scratchplate/pickguard? You say it's high at the first fret although the adjustment is good. Maybe it just needs the nut filing out a little...?
