  1. Full page colour advert ; I wonder where he is now . And , same edition of the trade mag , a review of the Westone 1A : ( with one I prepared earlier )
  2. I used to gig an XK5 and 760 Leslie six nights a week in the early 80s before I quit the music biz . Funniest story was one New Year's Eve , seconds before midnight the bandleader was counting the seconds down over the mic and I flicked the Leslie switch to slow but the sound coming from it at the side of the stage started rising in pitch . I thought " Oh no ! What a time for it to pack up ! ". I glanced round and it was a Piper inflating his bagpipes , full kilt and everything . No-one bothered to tell the band that he had been booked .
  3. Henry " The Thumb " Thomas from the Rockschool TV series of the day .
  4. 1985 ? I had two by then : ( pre- MIDI days )Aug 83 and Jan 84 The Roland SH 101 came with a removable lefthand grip and strap buttons so that it could double as a keytar . The player I always associate with the keytar is Herbie Hancock . Here he dons one during the bass solo , so Marcus quotes Herbie's own tune "Rockit " at him . - Playing jazz means PLAY -
  5. Never assume the guitarist who has been playing for 35 years is capable of tuning his own guitar to itself .
  6. Ten issues ? I could only manage a couple : In The Pocket and Groovin' Monthly . 😵
  7. Maybe just swap the jack socket for a regular one ?
  8. This week oi 'ave been mostly workin on .... two bars ! Solo upright : whilst singing : I had difficulty in pitching the G against the Fminor in the second bar , but in the two weeks over the Festive Season I worked on it every day and it is better now . - If I knew how to do the spoiler thing here I would indicate the lyric . ( Bars 5 & 6 of a standard ). More fun if someone guesses .
  9. See the Live From Daryl’s House episode with Dave Stewart . They do a piano and acoustic guitar version of “ Here Comes The Rain Again “.
  10. .... with " a special piece o' wood " :-
  11. +1 Just go for it . I bought a Thomann 111E BR ( the cheapest of the range ) 6 years ago to learn on and it has been fine . I'm posting these pics again because last time Bilbo laughed at the price ; it cost £322 new , delivered to my door ! ( No VAT in Jersey )
  12. Family Approval potential ? Allen Toussaint did a boogaloo ( ie similar style to " The Sidewinder " ) version of Thelonious Monk's " Bright Mississippi " on his album of the same name . Possible Practice potential .🐊
  13. The blade in an old fashioned pencil sharpener ( the kind where you turn the pencil , not the ones with a crank handle ) have a locating hole for the screw ready made . I would try modifying one of the plastic pencil sharpeners with a junior hacksaw and araldite . HTH
  14. https://www.kvraudio.com/news/amped-studio-2-0-browser-based-online-daw-now-available-43058 Free subscription apparently : https://ampedstudio.com If anyone tries it please comment .
  15. Mercy Mercy Mercy was Josef Zawinul's first electric tune . He got his first Wurlitzer off Ray Charles and wrote the tune for Cannonball Adderley on it . ( His first instrument was the accordion - imagine Mercy Mercy Mercy played on accordion ). A Standard .
  16. George has some friends round home ... Edited to add : This was the mid 70s , way before the MTV revolution . George was 33 & 1/3 years old , hence the title of the album . He enlisted his friend Eric ( Idle , not Clapton ) to produce three videos for songs off the album . Compare the editing to :
  17. Is it true that the luthier would only repair parts one at a time to make you book another appointment for the next part ?
  18. ^ Reminds me of : I guess it was a slapstick on the record , and the whip was just a stage prop .
