Thanks . I read somewhere that a dealer in Scotland bought a lot of Fenix stock after the Fender lawsuit . Young Chang was licenced to make Squiers , but also made their own range called Fenix which were said to be better than the Fenders they were copying so Fender sued , or threatened to sue , so they stopped . I'm just curious about the black designs . Mine seems to be under the clear poly . It does sound great , even with ( I guess ) 20 year-old strings !

I picked up this Fenix p-bass a few weeks ago from a local charity shop . It is on the right in this pic ; ( left is a Sunn Mustang ) The serial number in silver on the headstock says E 1056361 So I have two questions ; 1) The only serial number info I can find is via the Wiki page for Squiers [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier"]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier[/url] which is a little unclear . Was it made in '90 , '91 or '87-'88 ? 2 ) Did the black design on the front come from the factory ? I have found another pic on the web of one in Germany ; but none of the others I have found have any designs there . A puzzle . Thanks for any answers from the collective wisdom .......

But each tone is so harmonically rich that the fundamental is indeterminate ; it could be in any octave* . By the third pair I can't tell if the two tones go up or down ! Just stumbled across this young NS Artist via the NS website . [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Avgi0fNU9o[/media] He is using an alternative tuning for Northern Indian Classical Music to emulate the vocal sound in the same way as a Saranghi or a Dilruba . Tuning is as follows ; ( Where the E string would be ) he is using a high C string tuned to D ( " " A string would be ) " " " a regular D string tuned to D ( " " D " " " ) " " " a G string tuned to A ( " " G " " " ) " " " another high C string tuned to D So DDAD ( In case you are wondering what a Dilruba is , here is mine with my NS NXT for scale . It is played with a bow like the Saranghi , but has frets like a Sitar ( which is plucked ) 21 strings , the camel bone bridge sits on a tensioned goatskin ( like a banjo ). Only the two top left strings are played , the other two main strings serve as drones , and the 17 sympathetics are tuned to the Raga ( scale ) of the piece which can be varied to suit the vocalist .) So , he is seeking to imitate the sound of a Dilruba , which in turn was created to imitate the sound of the voice , which is considered to be the " purest " form of Music in the Indian Classical tradition . - Funny old world

Just picked up another slightly obscure acoustic instrument this afternoon , a Dulcitone made in 1895 in Glasgow . It is the same as the one in this video , but with different fold-up legs and without the artwork on the front . Slightly obscure acoustic instrument ? A friend gave me a Dilruba last summer , she had brought it back from Northern India a few years ago . Here it is next to my NXT EUB for scale ; It is made from one piece of tun wood ,and the camel bone bridge sits on a goatskin stretched over the hollow body . The neck is hollow with a thin soundboard of it's own nailed on with thorns from the Honey Locust tree . The movable frets are brass tied on across the back . It has 21 strings ; one main playing string , 3 drones and 17 sympathetics . The sympathetics run through holes in the bridge and under the hoop frets . It is played with a bow . ( I use a double bass french bow ) This is a bridge from another , not sure if it is camel hip-bone or ivory (!) but you can see how the sympathetics run through the bridge , while the drones and main string sit on top ; ( Damaged on top left ) The best demo I have found in english is the first video on this page ; [url="http://www.chandrakantha.com/articles/indian_music/dilruba.html"]http://www.chandraka...ic/dilruba.html[/url] 66cm from nut to bridge . ( I am saving up for 20 metres of 0.12 guage string , and I need to make one bone peg for the soundboard that the sympathetics divert around .)

The top E string was missing , so I found a " good " tension on the D string first , then tuned it to ; Root on the E Fifth on the A Tonic on the D Major 3rd on the G Fifth on the B Then I turned the webcam on and improvised......
